Preface
Book Bro prepares teacher's guide book series for
Social Studies from Step-1 to Step-5. This book "Social
Studies - 1" is a part of this series.
The main purpose of teacher's guide is to develop
the habit of curiosity among the students, sharp their
imagination and urge them to think. This guidebook
provides suggestions to the teachers to make teaching
and learning, easy and interesting for both teachers and
students.
This guidebook contains valuable information,
knowledge and suggestions for teachers and students. It
also gives new ideas that will make teaching and
learning, enjoyable, interesting and useful.
Every chapter of the textbook is explained in a
comprehensive way. New examples are also added for
improving the knowledge.
All this will surly raise the level of students. Main
points of the chapters are discussed briefly. We hope
teachers will appreciate our effort. This book will clear

UNIT 1
Irfan and Nadia
Introduction
As you read lesson 1 from book 1. You will
understand by reading this lesson. Lesson has simple
sentences, which convey simple meaning. Pick two
boys or one boy and one girl from the class.
Put up these questions;
Who is he?
What is his name?
What is his profession?
How old he is?
In the book all these four questions are put on
girl and boy.
 Explain them when these question are put on
girl she replied that;
This is a boy.
His name is Irfan.
He is seven year old.
 Tell them when these questions are put on the
boy, he replied;
This is a girl.
Her name is Nadia.
She is a student.
She is five year old.
 In the end, tell them, Irfan and Nadia are brother
and sister.
 Ask the students of your class to present their
introduction to the class. Also put some
questions on them.

UNIT 2

My Body
In this lesson as you read you will find
introduction of the different parts of body are given by
the writer. After teaching this lesson it is better for you
to pick a student from your class.
 Stand him in front of all the class then start
telling them different names of body. It will be
much better for the students to remember these
things.
 First, tell them about the head. Every part of a
body is very important. Tell them head is very
sensitive part of our body. Our brain is in our
head.
 Tell them, we have hair on our head. Which
look very nice and good. Hair increases the
beauty of human beings.
 Tell them every human being has two eyes. We
can see this beautiful world and everything with
our eyes. Eyes are the blessings of Allah. We
cannot see without eyes. We are unable to view
different things.
 Tell them we have two ears with these ears we
can hear the beautiful voices of human beings
and the birds. Without our ears we cannot listen
these beautiful voices.
 Tell them we all have one nose. We can smell a
thing with our nose. Nose also increased the
beauty of a face. It looks nice on our face.

 Tell them, we all have two hands that help us to


work. Without our hands we cannot do a
physical work.
 Tell them, we all also have two feet with which
we can walk from one place to another. We can
run on feet.
 Tell them we all have a mouth. We can eat and
drink through our mouth.
 We all have teeth in our mouths. We can cut our
food into pieces, with our teeth in the mouth.
 Tell them, we all have a tongue in our mouth.
With our tongue, we can taste a thing whether it
is a sweet or bitter. We can taste only with our
tongue.

Family
Tell the students about family. Everybody has a
family, in a family everybody has brothers and sisters,
father and mother. Sometimes they have grandfather
and grandmother.
In this lesson, an introduction of a family has been
given. Ask few students of your class to give you some
introduction of their families.
 In the book, a boy whose name is Irfan who is
introducing his family.
 He says that he has a sister whose name is
Nadia.
 He has a brother whose name is Noman.
 His fathers name is Mr. Karim
 Mrs. Fatima Karim is his mother.
 All they make a family.
 They are total five members Father, Mother two
brothers and one sister.
 He says that we should respect our parents. Tell
the students parents are the gift of God. We
should respect them.
 Tell the parents of students to love their
children very much. So in return children
should respect and obey their parents.
 If all the members of a family respect and love
each other. The family will be surly good and
happy.
 Irfan says he, his one brother and one sister also
study in the same school.

 He says that he goes to school by school van.


 He tells that his school opens at 7’ o clock in the
morning. Ask the pupils, when does their school
open? And when does it close?
 In the book, Irfan says that he reach the school
in time. Tell them that we should all try to reach
school in time.

Friends
In this lesson writer tells a story about three friends.
They are very fast friends. Tell the students that we
always try to make sincere and good friends.
 Tell the students, in this lesson writer tells a
story about three friends whose names are
Hassan, Hasseb and Hameed. As it is common
in their names. There are many other qualities
which are also common among these friends.
 All these friends live in Model town, they also
live in the same street.
 They are very good and fast friends. They study
in the same school and in same class. Because
they are class fellows and street fellows as well.
So they spend most of their time together.
 They go to school by a school bus. Many
students go to school on car or bicycle, but they
go to school together by school bus.
 There is a park near their house where they play
together. Ask the pupil, how many students in
your class play in the ground with their friends?
 In the end the writer says all these three friends
love each other.
 Tell the students that we should also respect and
love our friends. Good friends are the gift of
God.

My School
In this lesson an introduction of a school has
been given. You can tell them about your own school.
 Tell them you and other students go to school.
Children daily go to school.
 Every school has many rooms. So your school
has also many rooms.
 There is a principle room in your school where
principle sits and meets with teachers and
parents.
 There is a staff room where teachers sit in the
break time or in free period.
 There is also a library in your school. In a
library, there are many books which students
read in their free time. Students can borrow
books from library.
 There is a computer lab where many computers
are placed for the benefit of the students.
Students use these computers during their
computer hour or period.
 Tell them, there are many teachers who teach
the students many subjects. Tell them that your
school has almost a teacher of every subject. All
the teachers are good and nice. They teach very
well.
 Tell the students that teacher teaches the
students, how to read and how to write.
Teachers work hard for students. Teacher

help the students.
 Tell the students. They learn many things from
the school. They learn how to behave with
others because there are many students in the
class. Students learn many things from each
other.
 Tell the students they learn about math or
numbers from school. They learn about history.
In history, they learn about their own country
and the world.

science.
Teachers of these subjects teach these subjects
to the students.
 Students should be taught about good manners
at school. Teachers tell the students about social
ethics. Tell them good manners are taught to the
students. So that they could become good
citizen of a country and a good human being.
 Tell them that students also get enjoyment by
playing different games in the school. Teachers
should provide them their support. Good players
are always encouraged by the school.
 Tell them students should take part in many
activities. Students take part in speech
competitions, stage competition etc. All these
activities are organized for the betterment or
benefit of the students. Essay writing
competition is also organized for improving the
writing skills of the students.

Cleanliness
In this lesson an effort has been made to tell the
importance of cleanliness to the students. It is better to
teach the students about the cleanliness from the start.
If they develop this habit at the early stage, it will help
them in the future.
 Tell them, our religion gives much importance
to cleanliness. Cleanliness is called half of faith.
One can easily guess how important cleanliness
is in Islam. Try to teach some things which they
should do regularly.
 Tell them, they should get up early in the
morning daily. Then they should try to keep
them neat and clean. Everybody like neatness.
 Tell them everybody should try to take a bath
daily. It is very good for health. People feel
active after taking a bath.
 Everybody should try to wear neat and clean
clothes. Clean clothes give good impression.
 Advice the students, try to brush their teeth
daily, early in the morning time. It will protect
their teeth from germs.
 Always try to wash your hands before eating
anything. Because if we do not wash our hands
before the meal, the germs on our hands create
problems for all of us.
 Advise them, to cut their nails after week or two
week. Try to keep your hands always clean.
 Also try to keep your things such as towel,
clothes and handkerchief neat and clean.

 Polish your shoes daily. You should always try


to look good.
 Always comb your hair properly you should
take good care of your hair properly.
 Always keep your home neat and clean. If home
is neat and clean, it will be very nice and good
for everybody.

Good Manners
In this lesson as you read you will know some
advises are given to the students which are good for
them. By acting these advises they can improve their
personalities.
 Tell them, that you should always respect your
parents and teachers. It is a habit of great
people to respect the teachers and parents.
 Advise them always speak the truth. Speaking
the truth is a blessing of God. It is a very good
habit. One who speaks truth, will get its reward.
 Everybody should always try to keep himself
neat and clean. If somebody is neat and clean,
everybody likes to be his friend.
 Advise them to use the word “please” when you
ask for something. This word show some
respect and politeness to the other person.
 If somebody gives you something or show some
respect to you, then use the word “thank you”.
 Advise them; always do your home work on
regular and daily basis. It is a very good habit.
This habit will give you the result in your later
life.
 Always try to help the poors. It is our moral,
social and religious duty to help the poors.
 Always be polite and gentle to others. In return,
they will also be polite and gentle to you.
 When you do something wrong then you should
use the word “sorry”.

 When you meet your friends, then always ask,


“how do you do?”
 Advise them when somebody is late form
school then he should say “excuse me sir” from
to his teacher.

Our Food
 Tell them, food is very essential for all of us.
Everybody needs energy to work. We all get
energy from food. So food is very important to
all of us. There are many types of foods, which
we all use. People use many kinds of food.
 Tell them we use fish, meat, eggs, milk, ghee,
vegetables, and fruit in our food. These things
provide us energy to work. We should try to use
good things in our food. We should try to use
simple and good things in our food.
 Tell them, we eat food to grow and to live. Food
plays a vital role in our growth. In growing age,
children should be given proper food.
 Tell them, not only human beings but birds,
animals and plants, too need food to live. They
also need food to live and to grow. But their
food is different from all of us. Some animals
eat grass while some animals eat meat.
 Tell them plants make their food by themselves.
We get some of our food from plants. Such as
we get vegetables from the plants. Plants are
very useful. Vegetable such as peas, potatoes,
cabbages, carrot etc. They are very good for our
health. Tell them some advantages of the
vegetables.
 Tell them, some types of food make our body
muscles strong, some food makes our bones and
teeth strong. Meat, eggs, milk make our body

strong. Fruit and milk make our bones and teeth


strong.
 Tell them, we should use good and fresh food
because it makes us healthy and strong. If
somebody does not use good food, it will create
problem for his health.

take good and balanced diet. Balanced diet has
everything in it which is required by our body.

Fruits
As we read this lesson, in this lesson the
advantages of fruits are described. Explain all these
advantages to your students. Tell them, there are many
benefits of using fruits. Tell them we should use more
and more fruits.
 Tell them there are many types of fruit such as
mangoes, apples, oranges, grapes, bananas,
pears, melons, and water melons are types of
fruits.
 Tell them there are two types of fruits, dry and
fresh fruit.
 Tell fruit like almond, peanuts and coconut etc.
are called dry fruit.
 Mangoes, oranges, grapes, bananas, pears etc.
are called fresh fruits.
 Tell them fruits are different in form, different
in taste and different in colours.

So also they have different names. Tell them


about different fruits which are produced in our
country. For example, fruits like mangoes, oranges,
bananas, apples, grapes etc.
 Tell them fruits are good for our health. Fruit
gives us vitamins, which are very good for our
health.
 They are very helpful in improving resistance
power in our body. This resistance power gives
us energy to fight against the diseases.

when they want to eat any fruit, they should
first wash then they should eat it.

market, fruits are cheaper than at the other

 Tell them as we all know most vegetables are
used for cooking. We should use vegetables
after cooking them well. If vegetables are not
cooked well. They can create problems for our
stomach system. So we should avoid using half
cooked, overcooked or rotten vegetables.
 Tell them we should also remember, that we
should always wash the vegetables properly
before cooking them. Because if they use the
vegetables without washing them. It will not be

Our Games, Our Fun


Tell the pupils, everybody loves games people
play different types of games such as cricket, football
and tennis.

famous and popular games.

People at work
In this lesson, the writer has told the pupils
about different types of professions of the people.
 Tell them, we live in a society. In a society,
different types of people have different
professions. Every profession is good, so we
should respect every profession. People get their
earnings by adopting a profession. Explain
different types of professions to the students.
 Tell the students a farmer is a person, who
grows crops for us. A farmer gets up early in the
morning. He goes to his fields. He ploughs in
his fields. He takes a good care of his fields.
Farmers are very hard workers.
 Tell them, a carpenter is a person who makes
things from wood. He makes beautiful chairs
and tables, and many things from wood. He also
makes beautiful furniture from wood.
 Tell them a baker is a person, who bakes tasty
cakes, cookies etc. for us.
 Tell the students a policeman is a person.
Whom government appointed for the security of
the people and their properties. Policeman takes
care of the people’s lives, safety and protection.
 Tell them, every government makes law for the
security of the people. Government also makes
a department which is called police department.
Government makes this department to
implement law and order in the country. If

somebody breaks the law, the police catches


that person, and then takes that person to the
court. In the court, judge decide the punishment
of that person.
 Tell them, a soldier is a person who takes care
of the country on the borders. Tell them, every
country has an army for the defence of the
country. Tell if some country want to invade
into another country. Then army of that country
plays a vital role for the defence of the country.
A strong army is very important for any
country. Otherwise there would be many
difficulties.
 Tell them, a watchman is a person who takes
care of the streets, houses, and shops. Some
watchmen do their duties at night.
 Tell the students a doctor checks the patients
and diagnoses the diseases. After diagnosing the
disease, he writes the right medicine for the
patient.
 Tell them, a teacher’s duty is to teach the
students. Some teachers at college, some
teachers teach at university.
 Tell them, a nurse is lady who takes care of the
patient in a hospital.
 Tell them, a student seeks knowledge from a
teacher.
 Tell the students, a pilot is a person, who flies
an aeroplane. Some pilots fly the passenger
aeroplane, some pilots fly the fighter jets. A
pilot learns the art of flying aeroplane from a

flying school. Then he is granted a license of


completion of his training.
 Tell the students, a postman is a person who
delivers the letters to the person. Every country
has a post office department. Post office
department appoints persons as postman to
delivers the letters to the homes and offices.
 Tell the students, a fireman is a person whose
job is to put off fires.
 Tell the students an architect is a person who
makes maps or structures of the buildings.
 A driver is a person who drives the car or
vehicle. For this service he gets pay from the
owner of the car or vehicle.

In The City
In this lesson, tell the students what is a city
mean?
 Tell them a city means a large and important
town where a large number of population live
according to some rules and regulations. As we
know normally a city means a big town of large
population.
 Now tell them, Islamabad is a city. It is a big
city. Means it is very wide and large city which
has many things in it.
 It is the capital of Pakistan. Tell them every
country has a capital. Capital means an
important city from where government offices
operate.
 Tell as each capital of every country is
beautiful. Islamabad too is very beautiful city.
 There are many buildings in it. Tell them many
important governments offices are there. Many
foreign embassies and offices are also there.
 Army, Navy and Air Force have also their
central offices there.
 Tell them there are beautiful and big shops and
shopping malls there. Where people can go and
buy what they need. These shops have almost
everything.
 There are many private offices and large banks
in Islamabad because it is a major city so almost
every company has its office in Islamabad.

a capital. The roads in Islamabad are very
beautiful.
 It has many parks. It is also called the city of
parks. In spring it becomes a city of flowers.
 Tell them president of every country mostly
lives in the capital. So as the president of our
country also lives in Islamabad during his
presidentship.
 Many people live in it. They work in Islamabad.
There are many Government and private
residential colonies in Islamabad.

My Village
In this lesson, as you read, a try has been made
by author to give some introduction about his village.
In every country, there are many cities and villages. As
every country has villages as Pakistan has too.
 Tell them the difference between a city and a
village. Ask the student, if there is any student
who belongs to a village. Ask him; tell the class
about his village. Also ask him to tell you what
is the difference which does he feel between a
village and a city?
 You can tell the students more about the
villages from your own experience.
 Tell them, people in the villages, live in small
houses. These houses are mostly of two rooms.
Even many houses do not have kitchen or
toilets. In the villages people lead very simple
life. The writer also tells the students that his
house is also very small. He tells you that many
people of his village live in small houses.
 Tell them many villages do not have proper
system of drinking water. So they get drinking
water from the wells. In writers village people
also get water from well near the village.
Usually women draw water from this well.
 Tell them, they preserve his water for the whole
day.
 Tell them some villages have a pond or more
ponds from where sheep, animals and cattle
drink water. So as, writers village too have a

called villages. Mostly villages are very simple.
They lead a simple life.

Writer’s father is also farmer. They grow crops

worker.
 Tell the students, writer’s brother is not a
farmer. He is a driver. He drives a tractor.
 Tell the students, villages lead very simple life.
They eat very simple food. Writer says that he
and his family also lead a simple life. They eat
simple food.

Road Safety
As we all know roads are means of
transportation. So there must be some laws of
travelling on road. In this lesson, some simple laws are
described. These are good for all of us. These laws can
also be called road safety laws, because they provide
safety measurements to all of us.
 Tell the students we should always obey the
laws of roads. All these laws are made for our
safety.
 Tell them roads are used for travelling from one
place to another place. Tell them we can see
trucks, motorbikes, rickshaws and cycles
moving on roads.
 Explain them; there are three kinds of lights in a
traffic signal, red yellow and green.
 Tell them, if the light is red then drivers of the
vehicles should stop.
 If the light is yellow, we should get ready for
