1 Introduction to the APM30

1.1 Purpose
Huawei APM30 is developed for easy power distribution of mini base stations and distributed
base stations, for high adaptability of indoor transmission equipment to the adverse
environment, and for power backup of mini base stations and distributed base stations.

1.2 Positioning
The APM30 provides a comprehensive solution for distributed base stations and mini base
stations in terms of the following aspects:
 Power distribution
 Lightning protection
 Transmission equipment installation
 Transmission cable layout
 DC power backup
The rollout of the APM30 meets the requirement of fast network construction.

2 Features of the APM30

2.1 Functional Parts


The APM30 consists of the following functional parts:
 Rectifier
 Monitoring module
 Power distribution unit
 Lightning protection unit
 Temperature control unit
 Batteries
The APM30 cabinet also provides space for installing the transmission equipment.
With the functional parts, the APM30 performs the following functions:
 –48 V DC power supply
 Battery management
 Monitoring and communication of the power supply system
 Power distribution
 Lightning protection
 Temperature control
 Power backup
 Transmission equipment installation

2.2 Installation Scenarios


The APM30 cabinet is small and light. It can be installed in the following scenarios:
 On a pole
 On a rooftop
 On the concrete floor
 On an overhead platform
 On a wall
In addition, the external cables of the APM30 are simple and easy to install.

2.3 Environmental Adaptability


The APM30 is adaptable to the following environments:
 In structural design, the APM30 can protect itself from the damage caused by the
following factors:
− Water
− Moisture
− Mould
− Corrosion
− Theft
The open holes in the exterior of the APM30 cabinet help prevent the entry of foreign
objects into the cabinet. The APM30 is highly adaptable to outdoor environments.
 The APM30 can protect the AC/DC power supply against lightning strokes. It can be
installed on a rooftop or on a mountain top where lightning strokes frequently occur.
 The built-in rectifier of the APM30 can work within a wide range of AC voltages from 176
V to 290 V (corresponding to the rated power of the rectifier).
 The APM30 has a good control of internal temperature and works within the temperature

range –40 to +50 . ℃

2.4 Easy Maintenance


The cables are led out from the bottom of the APM30 cabinet. You can replace faulty parts,
maintain the external ports, and connect the cables from the front of the APM30. The rectifier
and the monitoring module are hot-swappable. This facilitates the operation and maintenance
of the APM30.

3.2 Benefits and Functions


The APM30 provides the distributed base stations and mini base stations with the following
benefits:
 –48 V DC power
 Backup power of the batteries
 Space for installing the transmission equipment
The APM30 performs the following functions:
 Battery management
 Monitoring and communication of the power system

batteries.
When an extended battery cabinet is used, the APM30 has no built-in
batteries, and thus it can provide a 7-U-high space for transmission
equipment.
Providing a built-in The rectifier converts the input AC mains into –48 V DC power.

The monitoring module provides one RS485 communication port and
three dry contact alarm ports for remote control and attendance-free
monitoring.
Providing AC power The power distribution box in the APM30 converts the single-phase
distribution three-wire AC input of 200 V AC to 240 V and the dual live wire AC
input of 110 V into two AC outputs. One output supplies power to the
built-in power system after going through the 32 A AC bipolar MCB,
and the other output supplies power to the AC heating board through
the 10 A AC bipolar MCB.
Protecting the power The APM30 provides the lightning protection circuit design for the
supply and the signal alarm port, the communication port, and the built-in lightning
ports from lightning protection module of the AC/DC power supply ports. The APM30
discharge provides safe and reliable surge protection and inductive thunder
protection.

Dissipating heat The breathable film and fans in the APM30 are separately installed for
heat dissipation. Therefore, the APM30 can adapt to the variation of
the ambient temperature.
Providing the The grounding bus of the cabinet, the grounding cable of the surge

3.3 Physical Interfaces


Table 3-3 describes the external physical interfaces of the APM30.

3.4 Extended Battery Cabinet of the APM30


3.4.1 Appearance and Structure of the Extended Battery Cabinet
The extended battery cabinet is similar to the APM30 in appearance. The APM30 can be
stacked on the extended battery cabinet. Figure 3-3 shows the extended battery cabinet of the
APM30.

3.4.2 Functions of the Extended Battery Cabinet


The extended battery cabinet contains a group of –48 V 50 Ah, –48 V 100 Ah, or –48 V 200 Ah
batteries, which are used with the APM30 to meet the power backup requirements of distributed
base stations and mini base stations for a relatively long period of time.

4 Typical Application of the APM30

4.1 APM30 Working with WCDMA Distributed Base


Stations
4.1.1 Power Backup with Built-in Batteries
The built-in batteries of the APM30 are applied to the WCDMA distributed base stations, as
shown in Figure 4-1.

 The APM30 is applied to distributed base stations in a scheme of one BBU plus three
RRUs: 1 BBU + 3 RRUs.
 The BBU3806 and transmission equipment can be installed in the APM30. The APM30
has a built-in power system to supply –48 V DC power to distributed base stations and
transmission equipment. The system also charges the batteries in the APM30 cabinet.
 The transmission equipment in the APM30 transmits signals to distributed base stations.
 The BBU3806 installed in the APM30 processes baseband signals for distributed base
stations.

 In the absence of mains, the built-in battery group of the APM30 supplies –48 V DC power
to distributed base stations and transmission equipment. A group of –48 V 12 Ah, –48 V 24
Ah, and –48 V 36 Ah built-in batteries in the APM30 are actually used for power backup.

4.1.2 Power Backup with the Extended Battery Cabinet


The extended battery cabinet of the APM30 is applied to the distributed base stations, such as
RRUs, as shown in Figure 4-2.

 The APM30 is applied to distributed base stations in a scheme of one BBU plus three

 The BBU3806 and transmission equipment can be installed in the APM30. The APM30
has a built-in power system to supply –48 V DC power to distributed base stations and
transmission equipment. The system also charges the batteries in the extended battery
cabinet.
 The transmission equipment in the APM30 transmits signals to distributed base stations.
 The BBU3806 installed in the APM30 processes baseband signals for distributed base
stations.
 In the absence of mains, the –48 V 50 Ah built-in battery group in the extended battery
cabinet supplies –48 V DC power to distributed base stations and transmission equipment.

4.2 APM30 Working with GSM Mini Base Stations


The APM30 is applied to the GSM mini base stations such as BTS3006C and BTS3002E, as
shown in Figure 4-3.

 The APM30 provides a space of 7 U high for the transmission equipment and has a built-in
power system to supply –48 V DC power to mini base stations and transmission
equipment. The system also charges the batteries in the extended battery cabinet.
 The transmission equipment in the APM30 transmits signals to mini base stations.
 In the absence of mains, the –48 V 50 Ah, –48 V 100 Ah or –48 V 200 Ah built-in battery
group of the extended battery cabinet supplies –48 V DC power to mini base stations and
transmission equipment.

4.3 Power Backup Capacity


The APM30 and extended battery cabinet support the following types of battery groups:
 –48 V 12 Ah
 –48 V 24 Ah
 –48 V 36 Ah
 –48 V 50 Ah
 –48 V 100 Ah
 –48 V 200 Ah

According to actual needs, you can use different types of battery groups for power backup, as
shown in Table 4-1.

Protection Input Overvoltage protection: The system generates an


alarm when the input voltage is higher than the AC
overvoltage alarm threshold (280 V by default).
Undervoltage protection: The system generates an
alarm when the input voltage is lower than the AC
undervoltage alarm threshold (180 V by default).
Output Overvoltage protection: The system generates an
alarm when the busbar voltage is higher than the DC
overvoltage alarm threshold (58 V by default).
Undervoltage protection: The system generates an
alarm when the busbar voltage is lower than the DC
overvoltage alarm threshold (45 V by default).
The APM30 has other protection features such as
overcurrent protection and short-circuit protection.
