Annex A – Scope of Works for a Quantity Surveyor

Quantity Surveying Works

- Demonstrate a high understanding of Standard Method of Measurements (SMM) as well
as building elements
- Prepare Cost Estimation, Cost Plan, Bills of Quantities (BoQ), Pre-tender Estimate (PTE),
Value Engineering (VE) to high standard. To be able to monitor, manage and check BQ for
accuracy and completeness.
- Review designs in order to determine whether design is sufficient for BQ measurement.
Contact design consultants for inquiries, when and as required, for any outstanding design
information or discrepancies
- Describe / Measure quantities / Bulk check quantities of architectural, structural and
infrastructure trades accurately
- Understand the level of rate and, when required, build up rates of architectural,
structural and infrastructure trades accurately
- Assist to complete Tender and Contract Documents (following FIDIC form of contract)
- Prepare Interim Payment Certificates, Variation estimation, Final Account for projects
- Undertake cost analysis record of project / summary of project quantities
- Contact local and international vendors for pricing, update material prices trend in
market
- Manage and improve the cost databases and other project-related databases.
- Assist (Project) Directors to prepare Financial reports, Statements etc
- Attend project meetings, take notes and prepare Minutes of Meeting when required
- Fulfill the Clients' requirement pro-actively within required timeline by controlling and
coordinating internal workforce and resources
- Advise and present matters to Clients / Consultants / Contractors clearly
- Assist to train Assistant Quantity Surveyor and subordinates
General Professional Works
- Prepare outgoing emails, letters, documents to high standard and QA/QC requirements
- Manage deadlines, work independently to carry out the task and meet deliverable
expectation
- Prepare to work overtime or under high pressure to fulfill the pending tasks or urgent
requirements
- Support / help colleague in the company as team spirit.
- Understand fully about relevant projects / filing / recording
- Communicate well with both international and local clients directly and at meetings
without supervision
- Communication well with all staff members and show ability in mentoring and coaching
to subordinates
- Have a professional work manner and present a good image for the company
- Be smart and presentable
Other Conditions
- Experiences in Quantity Surveying service is preferred
- Quantities measurement and pricing skill is highly rated and will be tested during
interview
