“Even the tiniest Poodle

or chihuahua is still a wolf
at heart”. -Dorothy Hinshaw

Dogs, the fluffy canines are our best friends. They are with us through thick and thin. But
to be honest many don't know where dogs came from. Many wonder, What is my dogs
origin?
Originally, it was believed that the first domesticated wolves appeared around
15,000 years ago in the Middle East. Now, new evidence shows they were around much
earlier than that. The geneticist, Pontus Skoglund, from Sweden found a 35,000 year
old Siberian Wolf bone and concluded that domestication occurred 27,000 to 40,000
years ago.
According to recent genetic studies domesticated dogs originated in China, the
Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Scientist believe wolves were first attracted to human
caps to scavenge for leftover food. Slowly the wolves started to follow the nomadic
humans around and a sort of natural selection for domestication occurred. There’s even
scientific evidence supporting the bond between humans and dogs. When people look
into each other’s eyes, we bond emotionally and release a hormone called oxytocin. A
study led by Nagasawa found that when dogs and people gaze into each other’s eyes,
the same hormone is released in both the humans and the dogs.

Has your dog been hard to
listen to lately? If so I am going to
give you a few tips and tricks to
train your dog. You need to
understand that if you have a
puppy it's not a little human. Nor
are they born to understand
english. So overall you need to
have patience and understand
that it takes time to learn just like
us.
Another solution to bad Bad Dog:
behavior is to praise good
behavior. Simple things like “good Here's
puppy!” Or you can quickly give
treats. As soon as your dog has Some
did something good give a small
treat immediately. For if you do Tricks
not the puppy will not know what
they got the treat for.
The most obvious solution is
to provide the right amount of
exercise and mental stimulation
for your dog. In other words don't
let your dog get bored play with
them! The most common reasons
dogs get into trouble is because of
boredom, so as you can keep your
dog occupied your dog most likely
will be fine.

dogs and big dogs?
Big dogs and small dogs
do have a bit of a behavior
difference. Yes, a new study
show that there might be
some truth to this stereotype.
In this study 1,276 surveys
were taken from dog owners.
The results showed
something unexpected.
They showed that compared
to big dogs smaller breeds
were more anxious, less
obedient, and more hyper.
It turns out larger
breeds often get more
attention than smaller
breeds. So larger dogs tend
to behave more than smaller
dogs giving into the
stereotype. The reason
people don't spend more
time training the smaller
breeds is because they are
more difficult to train than
larger breeds. All in all, it is
what is best for you but little
dogs tend to be a little more
tedious than bigger dogs.
Yesterday I got to sit
down with Julea Watkins,
a fellow dog lover, and Questions
asked her a few questions.
Me:”How many dogs do with Julea
you have?”
Julea:”Just one.” Watkins!
Me: “What kind of dog do
you have?”
Julea:”German Shepard
and Black Lab Mix.”
Me:”What is your favorite
part about dogs?”
Julea:”Playing with them.”
Me: “What is your dream
dog?”
Julea: “A husky with blue
eyes.”
Me:”How many dogs do
you want in the future?”
Julea: “Two no three dogs
a Husky, German
Shepherd, and a
Pomeranian.”
Me: “What dog food does
your dog eat?”
Julea:”Diamond Naturals.”
Me: Do you walk your dog
often?”
Julea:”Nope not really.”
After hearing from
Julea I learned a lot about
her and her dog. Overall,
this was a great
experience.
2019 Poll

In the results in this poll I found that most people

prefer big dogs. I had a total of 105 students respond to
my poll. 64.8% prefered big dogs while 35.2% prefer little
dogs. I asked this question because I wanted to know
what people prefer. Most ended up preferring big dogs.
How to save
money when
getting a puppy
First off get your new
pooch from a shelter.
Shelters are far less
expensive than buying one
from a breeder. Buy stuff
in bulk too. Rather than
buying things one by one
(like toys or treats) buy
multiple because in the
long run it will save you
money. Pay attention to
what your dog does and
doesn't play with. You can
even make your own dog
toys. Just look up a handy
dandy Youtube video and
you will be good to go.
Sometimes it sounds ideal
to just take your dog to
training lessons or hire a
trainer. But instead of
spending a ridiculous
amount of money on a
trainer you could buy a
training book. Anyways I
hope these tips help you
on the journey of getting a
puppy!
Dogs Vs. Cats
In my opinion, dogs are much
better pets than cats. Dogs have a
sixth sense (Business Insider). In
fact, dogs have the ability to detect
life threatening events such as
seizures. In addition to that, dogs
can also be trained to press a 911
button in a case of emergency. As
a result of this, dogs can end up
saving many lives and helping
many people in difficult situations.
Dogs can also prevent asthma
(Business Insider). Furthermore,
dogs carry a dust called “Dog
Dust” and if children are exposed
to this earlier in life they can have
lower chances of getting asthma.
Dogs are also very loyal. My dog
knows how to sit, stay, shake, and
even fetch. Some people may say
that dogs are not that loyal, but
having a dog myself I know that
dogs are very much loyal. As you
can see with the evidence I
provided, dogs are much better
pets. Dogs have a sixth sense,
dogs can prevent asthma, and
dogs are also very loyal.
