Summer Reading Program Blasts Off!
It’s that time once again! Our very popular
Summer Reading Program has returned
and this year’s theme is “A Universe of Sto-
ries.” We have a summer schedule packed
with fun programs for all ages, many of
which are in keeping with the space theme
of the reading program. If you and your
family want to explore a universe of stories,
the library is the place to be this summer!
Reading program incentives (prizes) are
awarded at the time of sign-up, mid-points,
and upon completion. Sign up begins on
June 1, either at the library or online at
wwpl.lib.in.us.

Story Castle Unveiled!
For years, the young patrons of the West-
field Washington Public Library have spent
many happy hours listening to stories and
singing songs in our “Story Pit,” located in
our children’s department. Those who have
visited us recently may have noticed that
the “Pit” has been transformed into a “Story
Castle,” thanks to the skills of Mr. Emilio
Lopez of Veremy Remodeling and our Chil-
dren’s Department staff members.
Complete with rustic “stone” walls, glowing
torches, stained glass windows, a coat of
arms, and even a life-size knight in shining
armor, the Story Castle is an inviting and
magical setting for our frequent Children’s
Story Times and Baby Love programs, as
well as our upcoming summertime Story
Castle Cinema events. If you look up before
completed after 24 hours of listening or
reading.
Aliens (Grades 7-12): Progr am is
completed after finishing 8 books or audio-
books.
Astronauts (Age 18+): Progr am is
completed after finishing 8 books or audio-
books.
For adults and teens, 3 magazines/
newspapers = 1 book. Reading aloud to
others also counts toward your goal, both
for the reader and the listener.
Keep reading even after you complete the
program, as patrons will continue to earn
department drawing slips for their specific
age groups as they continue to complete
additional reading. The prizes are donated
by our generous sponsors. We would like
to thank them for their support!
The Summer Reading Program Grand
Prize (limited to one entry per patron) will LIBRARY HOURS

Bicycle Expedition at Asa Bales Park

Meet us as Shelter #1 (off of Hoover Street) with your
bikes. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an
adult. All riders must pre-register and sign a waiver

Super Summer Saturday Mornings with Evan’s
Cold-Blooded Critters
Evan Harmeyer, a Westfield local who rescues cold-
blooded animals, will teach you all you need to know
about caring for lizards, frogs, turtles, snakes, and
more.Come learn about different animals at each of the
four sessions listed below. Free for school aged children.

Star Wars Day with Star Wars Indiana
June 15 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Drop in on Saturday, June 15th from 11 AM to 2 PM for
some intergalactic fun! We'll have games, crafts, and oth-
er activities for children of all ages. Members of Star Wars
Indiana (a legion of dedicated Star Wars enthusiasts
wearing screen-accurate costumes) will be stopping by to
visit, so don't miss it!
The Eagle Has Landed: The Extraordinary Flight of
Apollo 11
June 24 @ 6:00 PM
Join us for this very special program, presented by the
Link Observatory Space Science Institute.
The program will include a presentation, and a question
and answer session. Suitable for school-aged children -
adults. You won't want to miss it! Free tickets required
and will be available 30 minutes before program begins.

Blast Off to Magic Show!
June 25 @ 10:30 AM
Join us for this highly interactive magic show, presented
by Daniel Lusk. The audience will work with Daniel to
build a rocket ship to reach for the stars! Daniel will be
performing magic to promote reading, friendship, and
character development. Free tickets are required for this
program and will be available 30 minutes before the pro-
gram begins.
Fire Station Day
June 26 @ 1:30 PM—3:00 PM
Join us at Fire Station 82 adjacent to Cool Creek Park on
151st St. to learn about fire safety, and get an up-close look
at a fire truck. Prepare to get wet! (Bring a towel.) Great
photo op! All ages welcome!
Space Camp (Registratio n required)
June 17—June 21 (five days) 10:30 AM to12:30 PM -or-
July 22—July 26 (five days) 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
This course will meet each morning for 5 days to learn
about the universe, our solar system, and space explora-
tion. It is designed for school-aged children in grades 1-8,
but older kids and parents are also welcome. $50/child
with $5 discount for each sibling. Register at the Chil-
dren’s Desk.
Snakehead Ed and Python Pals

Snakehead Ed presents an up-close encounter with
snakes! All ages welcome. Free tickets are required for this
program and will be available 30 minutes before the pro-
