ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to these people that without their help this

research would never have been possible and completed. We appreciate their participation,

guidance, support and effort to help us reach our goal.

At the top of our list, we would like to thank our Almighty God for giving us mental and

physical strength in letting us through all the difficulties. We have experienced His guidance day

by day and He is the one who let us finish this research. We will keep our trust in Him.

Next, we would like to thank our research adviser, Mr. Marcus Louis Marcos who guide

and persistently help us all throughout this research. He credibly raised our spirit and courage.

Without his relentless support and advice, this paper will never be possible.

We would also like to thank our thesis instructress, Mrs. Valentine Blez L. Lampayan, for

bestowing her wisdom and unending guidance. She patiently instructs and guide us every step of

the way in making this research. And to Mr. Harris R. Dela Cruz for his

And to our panellist, Ms. Rainilyn R. Leonardo and Mr. Dave Louie E. Roxas for sharing

their knowledge and giving us advice which greatly contributed to the success of this research.

We would like to thank our respondents, first, the parents who appreciated our research

and make time to evaluate our application. Second, the CICT faculty members who shares their

knowledge and suggestions for the improvement of our research. Third, to our fellow BS MATH

students who actively participates in evaluating our fruit of labour. Without their ideas and

suggestions this research will not be completed.

Special thanks to Mr. Jun Bernabe for giving us knowledge about the existing laws here

in our country, Philippines, to greatly support our research. And also, to Mr. Mark Kristoper

Cruz, for helping us in the process of making our script and documents in our research.

Of course, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to our parents who supported

us and inspired us in making this research. Their overflowing love and provision are the ones

who pushed us to make this research possible.

ABSTRACT

Child’s Watch is an android-based monitoring application. With Child’s Watch on

parent’s phone and child’s phone, it allows the parents to monitor their child’s phone activities

using their own mobile phones.

Child’s Watch have the following features: First is the ability to monitor the child’s

mobile phone status such as its battery status, charging state and whether it is active (unlocked)

or inactive (locked). Second feature is allowing the parents to see the text messages sent to the

child’s phone and from whom the text messages were. Next is acquiring the contact list saved in

the child’s phone. Fourth one is being able to track and control the mobile applications in the

child’s phone. Parents can see all the installed application on their child’s phone and make a

schedule of when the applications can only be used. Parents can also view the currently running

application and add it on the list of scheduled applications. Next feature is getting the child’s

phone current location and location history. Sixth feature is allowing the parents to see the

browsing history of their child’s phone. Lastly, Child’s Watch is also capable of sending

notifications inside or outside the application’s user interface.

The application was developed on Android Studio 3.3.1. For pictures, icons, models,

Adobe Photoshop CS6 was used, and Google Firebase for the database of the application.

The researchers used the descriptive method in gathering information. In particular, the

researchers utilized the survey method which is popular market research tool. The construction

and design of the application is directed by System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The

researchers make used of the Waterfall Model which includes the following: Planning Phase,
Data Collection Phase, Analysis Phase, Design Phase, Development Phase, Testing and

Debugging, and Evaluation

To test the acceptability of the application, a total number of 265 respondents from three

different groups – the parents from Balagtas, Bulacan, CICT faculty members and BS Math

students from Bulacan State University, are evaluated. The application is evaluated based on its

functionality, reliability, usability, portability, maintainability, and efficiency. The developed

application Child’s Watch: A Child Monitoring Application gained a Highly Acceptable rating

overall and in all of the criteria which is interpreted that the respondents are convinced that the

developed application is highly acceptable.
