Resale Container Grading Modified: 2008

Florens has updated its grading criteria to be used on units pre-cleared as resale unit.
The new grading system provides a greater visibility on the conditions of the equipment
being returned to our depots. While a thorough IICL estimate is not required for these units,
an accurate visual assessment of the general conditions of the equipment and the
assignment of the corresponding grade will greatly assist us to enhance the management
of our resale inventory.

Florens requires that all depots evaluate and grade our incoming resale units at the time
of gate-in. Depot should report the corresponding grades via EDI at the time of
“Gate-in” move transmission. The grades should be assigned by the depot through visual
inspection (no hammer test is allowed) and should be reported as explained below.

Note : All pre-designated sale units require grade. Transmissions without a

grade or having a wrong grade will be rejected as of August 26, 2003.

Procedure to Transmit resale grade through EDI

 Use Notes/Comment field (position 351) in the CCIE software to
transmit Grade.

 Grade should be between grade 1 thru grade 6. (reefer to resale

grading score section.)

 In the notes/comments field, indicate the appropriate grade by entering

‘GRADE=‘. For example to transmit grade three, enter in the
comments field : GRADE=3.

NOTE: PLEASE ENSURE THAT THERE IS NO SPACE BETWEEN

GRADE AND THE EQUAL SIGN AND THE GRADE NUMBER.

Approach to Grading Resale Units (dry Containers) Modified: 2008

Grades should be assessed using the following principals:

1) Overall condition of the unit rather than any particular component of the container.
2) Prevailing IICL standards should not be applied to any damage, corrosion or normal
wear and tear.
3) Required repairs should be most economical method and the preferred sequence of repair
method is weld or straighten -> straighten & weld -> insert -> section -> renew

Definitions of Cargo Worthy and Static Storage Standards

Cargo worthy container is defined as a container that is suitable to carry cargo within the
various modes of transportation, although it may be in a condition other than IICL toler-
ances.

Static Storage container is a container that is suitable to be used to store cargo in static con-
ditions only. Containers classified as “Static Storage” have structural conditions other than
CGW- cargo worthy standards.
