TEEN PREGNANCY

Mya Lopez, Annette Rivera, Samantha Ochoa

RESEARCH QUESTION:

HOW INFORMED ARE TEENS

ON TEEN PREGNANCY AND
THE DANGERS ?
WHAT’S SO IMPORTANT
ABOUT THIS PROJECT?
-The reason why we chose teen pregnancy is because we
believe that it is a serious issue between teenagers now a
days.

-We think that teen pregnancy could of been an avoidable

issue if sex was a conversation topic between parents and
their kids, and teachers to students.

Kids should start to know about sex and ways to prevent

pregnancy and STDs, STIs since they're in middle school
since kids nowadays a days are becoming sexually active
since they're around 13 years old which makes them more
exposed to pregnancy and other consequences people face
when having unsafe sex, due to their ignorance on how to
What we know
We learned that with the teen pregnant
survey show that students are aware of
teen pregnancy but don't know the
dangers to the full extent . We also
learned the that our generation is
known as the STI generation. Due to
the fact that birth control pills and plan
b pills are accessible they believe that
they do not need to protect themselves
and in the end about 70% end up
pregnant or have a type of STIs
Hypotheses
We believe that because teens are not well informed on teen pregnancy that they
have a higher chance to get pregnant. We believe that teen pregnancy has been a
problem in our community. Many teens are not aware of how to prevent this
problem. Many adults don’t talk about how to prevent pregnancy because they
believe it will make teens sexually active.
Methodology
We made a survey which helped us by showing us how many individuals are aware
of the problem. We used articles which helped us gather a lot of data and informed
us about how to prevent the problem ,reasons on why it’s a problem , and also the
negative effects on the problem. We also interviewed a health educator from the teen
clinic on teen pregnancy and learned that not only is teen pregnancy a big issue but
we have also become the STD generation. We used all this data to figure out what is
the cause of the problem.
What data did you collect ?

- We collected that What we’ve found with our research is teen pregnancy has
actually decreased. There is about 12 pregnancies per year here at San
Fernando that go to our schools clinic. The methods to prevent pregnancy that
are most commonly used is the birth control pills.
- Student are now only preventing pregnancies, but due to the lack of sex ed that
LAUSD provides, they don’t look at the other risks which are STDS
What Does This Mean?
- More teens are being provided with protection to prevent this problem and it
decreases the rate of teen pregnancy.
- Teens are being provided with birth control and refuse to use condoms and it’s a
higher risk to get a transmitted disease. Teens are only aware of how to prevent
pregnancy but not how they can prevent themselves from getting a transmitted
disease.
- That adults don’t want to talk about this topic with teens because they believe it
will make them want to be sexually active. Teens need to be provided with
better sex Ed.Now 62% of people a age 25 and below carry STDs.now the
thing that is becoming a problem is chlamydia it is more common than
pregnancy.
Why does it matter?
This matters because my generation is apart of the statistics and all of this is
happening around us. We want our community protected from spending the rest of
their lives dealing with an STD. This hits so close to home for us since it is
happening right at this school. Teens are dealing with pregnancies all around us.
Also, teens need to be provided with better sex Ed. Now 62% of people a age 25 and
below carry STDs. The thing that is becoming a more of a problem, is chlamydia, it
is more common than pregnancy.
