Traditional Positions:

Player #1: Point Guard – Is the one responsible in setting up team attacks. This position requires great dribbling skills and
passes so that the appropriate teammate will receive ball, providing score. Players that are often place to this position
are the smallest high compare to his teammates.

Player #2: Shooting Guard – Is the one responsible for providing scores for the team for offense (mostly, they are good
at jump shots for both mid-range and 3 pointers) and they are also responsible for stealing the ball when the team is on
defense. Some shooting guards are also asks to play the role of point guards for their teammates.

Player #3: Small Forward – Is another player responsible for providing scores (They are good for scoring under the
basket, since they tend to be faster than power forward and center, or doing mid-range jump shots) for the team and
sometimes, they are also given a task to be tertiary or even secondary rebounders. In some few cases, there are some
small forwards that possess good passing abilities.

Player #4: Power Forward – Is responsible for defending under the basket. They are secondary responsible for getting
the rebounds and they also have mid-range jump shot capabilities (although they most likely attack really near the
basket).

Player #5: Center – Is another position (unlike the two forwards) to have the pure ability to get rebounds and to make
scores, if possible, under the basket. Since they are primarily responsible for doing rebounds and to make scores nearest
to the basket, they are the tallest of all positions so than for them to get the highest percentage of rebounds – and also
have the strongest body build to resist any opponents who will block their field goal attempts.

Mixed Positions:

Player #1: Combo Guards – Is a player that combines the attributes of the point guards and shooting guards but do not
suited to be categorize into any position – meaning that he is treated as a player in between (only). The height of this
player is also commonly in between the point and shooting guards. Team Plays often dictates which position will they
play temporary if that particular play will dictate a point guard of if that specific even will need them to play as shooting
guard.

Player #2: Swingman – Is a player that can play the role of both (or either) shooting guard or (and) small forward; and in
essence, can swing or (shift himself) into either position whenever needed. Height of this player is also in between the
shooting guard and small forward.

Player #3: Point Forward: Is a player (a small forward and sometimes even power forwards) that has added
responsibilities of a point guard. Thus the position is between forward or point guards. Point forwards are sometimes
utilize if their point guards are weak ball handlers or to free their guards (shooting guards and point guards) and for
them to provide scores (since most of these shooting and point guards are prolific 3 pointers) in which some plays give
further importance on 3 point shooting offenses.

Player #4: Combo Forward (Stretch Four): Is a player that is playing a power forward position for defense but has the
ability to utilize the jump shots on mid-range and even on 3-point range. Due to the fact that power forwards are taller
than the point and shooting guards, and have stronger body build compare to the said positions, this may cause the
opposing power forward to leave its low post (near the basket ring area) to counter the shooting capabilities of the
power forward that has mid-range ability. This may leave the low post area slightly open for the allied guards to
penetrate for field goals and even for allied centers to have higher chances to provide scores under the basket.
Player #5: Forward-Center: Is a player that can either or both play the role of forward and/or center – this may
specifically prefer playing the role as power forward and center. These players have the switching role due to the
instance that they might play a center throughout their career but has been switch over into power forward position
since they also have the ability to play that position (or can also be the other way around).

Player #6: Stretch Five: A player that is playing as Center but has jump shot which also has jump shot capabilities
specially 3-point jump shots.
