Bautista, A. D. & Quiogue, M. A. B. (2010). Bar Review Companion: Political Law. Anvil

Publishing, Inc.

The authors are well-known personalities in the Far Eastern University Institute of

Law. Bautista is the President and CEO of Shang Properties and the Dean of the

said institute. Quiogue is a graduate of the FEU-DLSU JD-MBA dual degree

program and the first in her JD class. The book discusses five branches of

political law: Constitutional Law, Local Government Code, Administrative Code,

Election Laws, and Public International Law. The authors did not include

discussions nor explanations in the book, only the entire text of the constitution

and special laws as well as the pertinent provisions of some public international

laws. It is ideal for those who are already familiar with the construction of political

laws and how the Supreme Court interpret the provisions.

De Leon, H. S. (2005). Textbook on the Philippine Constitution. Rex Printing Company,

Inc.

De Leon authored various books on political law, civil law, and taxation. He has

become a household name for every single law student in the country. In an

attempt to make it easily understandable, the author avoids legal details and

elaborate citations of cases. The provisions are discussed section by section,

amplified and explained in relatively nontechnical language for both the

beginning student and the layman while also citing some Supreme Court
decisions. The book is ideal for college students in undergraduate courses and

for quick reviews on basic principles.

Bernas, J. G. (2009). The 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines: A

Commentary. Rex Printing Company, Inc.

The author is a Jesuit and the Dean Emeritus of Ateneo Law School in Makati

City. He was a member of the 1986 Constitutional Commission which drafted our

present constitution that we are using today. He believed that the current

constitution is not a perfect document but survived attempts of alteration. The

book has newer editions which update newer jurisprudence on the document’s

various provisions that supplements the descriptive commentaries of the author.

The book is mainly focused on the basic principles discussed in Constitutional

Law for freshman law students.


Labor Law

Poquiz, S. A. (2018). Labor Standards and Social Legislation with Notes and Comments

Volume I. Rex Printing Company, Inc.

This edition has completely updated recent developments in labor statutes,

jurisprudence and DOLE Orders aimed at providing fresh inputs to the readers

for their quick and easy understanding of the subject. Indeed, it is a valuable tool

of the bar candidates and law students to satisfy their untiring quest to become

part of a prestigious and universal profession. This book was qualitatively

enhanced by the suggestions of some peers, known for their expertise on the

subject, including students who provided some materials that made this edition

comprehensive

Azucena, C. A. (2016). The Labor Code with Comments and Cases Vol. II-A Labor

Relations Vol. II-B Employment Termination. Rex Printing Company, Inc.

The book is a comprehensive analytical study of the entire Labor Code, with the

Implementing Rules. It is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 contains the

Preliminary Title and Books I to IV of the Labor Code which is further divided into

two parts: (1) The Labor Code with Annotations Preliminary Title; and (2) Rules

Implementing Boks I to IV of the Labor Code. Volume 2-A covers Book V of the

Labor Code and Volume II-B covers Books VI and VII of the Labor Code
Ungos, Jr. P. D. & Ungos, III P. Q. (2015). The Law On Labor Relations. Rex Printing

Company, Inc.

The authors specialize in labor laws and have published books on labor

standards, labor relations, and fundamental labor review. The book contains

presentation is simplified for easy understanding, Supreme Court decisions

applying or interpreting the law are cited, and Department Orders issued by the

DOLE are summarized and discussed for easy reference.


Civil Law

De Leon, H. S. & De Leon, Jr. H. M. (2014). Comments and Cases on Obligations and

Contracts. Rex Printing Company, Inc.

Leading cases illustrating the practical application of legal provisions are

concisely reduced to their bare essentials. In some cases, the pertinent rulings

are reproduced substantially in their original form with appropriate headings to

indicate the specific points or principles of law being discussed. Numerous

examples typical of everyday life are also utilized to facilitate understanding.

Practically, all the available cases decided by the Supreme court on the subject

up to the preparation of this book have been included, or at least cited under the

pertinent articles of the Civil Code for ready reference.

Aquino, T. B. (2014). Reviewer on Civil Law. Rex Printing Company, Inc.

This work is designed to provide candidates for the Bar Examinations and Fourth

year students of Law, with core knowledge of Civil Law and jurisprudence. It

restates in a concise manner the statutory provisions, requisites, rules and

doctrines laid down by the Supreme Court and other basic materials on Civil Law.

It also includes topics that were included in the past bar examinations as well as

sample bar examination questions. Problems based on cases are likewise

included as study guides. In addition to the New Civil Code provisions, related

special laws are included and are integrated in the discussion.

This book covers the numerous new cases decided by the Supreme Court in the

matter of Obligations and Contracts. While many of these decisions merely

reiterate existing jurisprudence, there are some, nonetheless, which illustrate

comparatively new concepts. Obviously, with the dawning of the 21st century,

there is much judicial progress in this highly-important field of law; principally the

advent of electronic contracts vis-à-vis e-Commerce, and the spawning of

derivatives (new exotic financial instruments based on hedging)


Taxation

Chavez, Jr, J. L. (2011). Tax 2 Revealed: A Guide to Passing the Bar Vol. 2. Rex

Printing Company, Inc.

The author presented Taxation 2 not the way the Revenue Code is crafted. While

this is not an amendment of the numerical representation of the said Code, the

plain and impartial objective is to rearrange the outer shell without sacrificing the

substance and the sequence of the Code. In conclusion, the continuity of the

concept, the relationship of each topic, the impression as well as the idea of

having a one-stop shop fabric were all included in this humble piece. Perceptibly,

topics like local taxation, powers of the bureau and the salient provisions of the

Tariff and Custom Code are all integrated in this book in acquiescence of what

are on the face of it covered by the bar examinations.

Dizon, E. V. M. (2015). Taxation Law Compendium Vol. 2. Rex Printing Company, Inc.

The author is a San Beda College graduate who ranked fifth in the Bar. Most of

his books specialize on banking laws. This book centers on income taxation. The

discussion herein is presented in the following format: first, the provision; second,

the analysis; third, the illustrations; and fourth, the cases. Related laws, expert

opinions, commentaries, and cases both local and foreign, are cited to explain

the subject matter, especially the technical and/or complicated provisions. This

volume presents the first fifty (50) sections of the 1997 National Revenue Code,

as amended.
Gruba, L. K. (2018). Guide Notes and Cases on Tax Remedies. Rex Printing Company,

Inc.

The author is the current is the current Associate Dean for Continuing Legal

Education of Ateneo Law which she is also the Vice Chair of the Taxation Law

Department. The book includes guide notes and cases on the following topics:

(1) general principles of taxation and the organization of the Bureau of Internal

Revenue, powers of the Secretary of Finance and the Commissioner of Internal

Revenue; (2) Income Taxation; (3) Value-Added Tax, Percentage Tax, Excise

Tax, and Documentary Stamp Tax; (4) Estate and Donor’s Taxes; and (5) Local

Government Taxation and Real Property Taxation.


Mercantile Laws

Sundiang, J. R. & Aquino, T. B. (2014). Reviewer on Commercial Law. Rex Printing

Company, Inc.

Jose R. Sundiang is the former Dean of San Beda College of Law and Arellano

Law Foundation. Timoteo B. Aquino is an author of several law books focusing

on mercantile or commercial law and has been teaching in a number of law

schools. This new edition includes R.A. 10607 that modified the Insurance Code

of the Philippines, latest amendments to the Intellectual Property Code (R.A.

10372) and the Anti-Money Laundering Law (R.A. Nos. 10167 and 10365). This

book adheres to the basic aim of the previous editions—to present the core

subjects of Commercial Law in a simplified but comprehensive manner.

Austria, S. E. & Aquino, T. B. (2009). Negotiable Instruments Law. Central Books

Supply, Inc.

Salvador E. Austria is a graduate of Foundation University College of Law and

has been teaching business, economics, accountancy, and law in the same

university. He is a former City Auditor of Cebu City and Dumaguete City and a

former Provincial Auditor of Negros Oriental. Timoteo B. Aquino is an author of

several law books focusing on mercantile or commercial law and has been

teaching in a number of law schools. The book discusses the fundamentals of

negotiable instruments law mainly on Act. No. 2031. It uses various cases to

illustrate different scenarios a pertinent provision can be applied.


Chavez, Jr, J. L. (2018). Corporation Law Simplified: A Guide to Passing the Bar. Rex

Printing Company, Inc

Josephrally L. Chavez, Jr. The author attempted to make the study of

corporation law shortened, streamlined and abridged to one’s logic and technic.

As such, the author further subdivided the Code into three (3) parts, namely: The

birth of the corporation (incorporation), its lifetime (corporate existence) and

death (dissolution).
Criminal Law

Buhain, B. D. (1998). The Revised Penal Code of the Philippines. Rex Printing

Company, Inc.

The author is the current Chairman and President of the REX Group of

Companies. In addition The Revised Penal Code, this book includes Probation

Law, Indeterminate Sentence Law, Dangerous Drugs Act, Anti-Graft Law, Anti-

Fencing Law, Anti-Wire Tapping Act, Anti-Carnapping Law, Bouncing Check Law,

Anti-Sexual Harassment Law, Anti-Electricity Pilferage Law, and Anti-Hazing Law.

The book mainly focuses on provisions with some descriptions and cases

mentioned in the footnotes.

Boado, L. D. (2007). Notes and Cases on Special Penal Laws. Rex Printing Company,

Inc.

The author is CPA-lawyer and was a former director of the Commission on Audit.

The book specializes on the special penal laws that supplement the Revised

Penal Code. This sequel to the Notes and Cases on the Special Penal Laws is

made necessary by the fast pace with which Congress has been enacting special

penal statutes. Together with these special laws, and other new Special Penal

Laws, are the jurisprudence lifted from cases decided by the Supreme Court.
Reyes, L. B. (2017). The Revised Penal Code: Book 1 Articles 1-113. Rex Printing

Company, Inc.

The author was a former Associate Justice and was the first president of the

Integrated Bar of the Philippines. Several important penal legislation have been

passed in the last few years which have a significant impact on crimes

punishable under the Revised Penal Code; thus, necessitating the latest

revisions to this book. Among these laws are Republic Act No. 9208 (The Anti-

Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003), Republic Act No.9262 (An Act Defining

Violence Against Women and Their Children), Republic Act No. 9344(An Act

Establishing a Comprehensive Juvenile Justice and Welfare System), Republic

Act No.9346 (An Act Prohibiting the Imposition of the Death Penalty in the

Philippines) and Republic Act No. 9372 (The Human Security Act of 2007).The

latest jurisprudence on criminal cases are likewise included herein.


Remedial Law

De Leon, M. M. (2018). Appellate Remedies. Rex Printing Company, Inc.

It presents the rules and jurisprudence covering post-judgment remedies in a

clear, simple and methodical manner. Though not an exhaustive discussion of

every procedural precept involved in the subject, it nevertheless attempts to

furnish the essential principles which will give the reader the confidence to

navigate the various paths of procedural law with respect to appeal and review. It

supplies the rudiments of what, where and when, i.e., what to file, where to file

and when to file.

Regalado, F. D. (10th ed.). Remedial Law Compendium Vol. 1. Anvil Publishing, Inc.

It was deemed by the late Justice Regalado (then as a professor, pre-Bar

reviewer and later Dean of the San Beda College of Law) as his humble

contribution to the country’s legal bibliography in response to the urgings of

members of the legal profession “for a book which would provide a ready

reference to the Rules of Court, the relevant statures and the leading and ruling

cases, clarifying a specific question of procedure or evidence, or even a starting

point for further research;” and the request of law students and reviewees, “for a

compendious but concise presentation of the diverse facets of Remedial Law for

their review of the subject in the senior year and in their preparation for the bar

examinations.”

Presented in a simplified manner together with citations on the codal provisions

of the rules in correlation with other related laws and rules and regulations.

This book contains selected landmark cases, provisions of the Rules of Court

related to legal ethics, reforms in the Bar examinations, the Code of Professional

Responsibility, a survey of 2015-2016 disbarment cases, special Bar matters,

disbarment proceedings, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, rules to remember

requirements and forms for the Bar examinations, and the Legal Education Board

Agpalo, E. B. (2009). Legal and Judicial Ethics. Rex Printing Company, Inc.

A number of law schools and colleges are using this book as textbook on legal

ethics. It is satisfying to read a number of decisions of the Supreme Court citing

this book. They more than reward the author’s efforts. It is hoped that this revised

edition will receive the same favorable response and will better serve as a

manual for lawyers and judges to imbibe the ethical values in the practice of law

and in judicial conduct, respectively.

Cosico, R. V. (2011). Book on Legal and Judicial Ethics. Rex Printing Company, Inc.

This book contains my commentaries on the Code of Professional Responsibility

for Lawyers, and the New Code of Judicial Conduct of 2004 with supporting

jurisprudence and cases decided by the Supreme Court. Relevant opinions

coming from the American Bar Association, and the ABA Model Code of
Responsibility were also incorporated together with the Bangalore Code of

Judicial Conduct.
