• Antwerp

A commemoration Lieven Rens was organized by the UFSIA in early February in the form of an exhibition entitled 'Poet, professor, portraitist',
illustrating three of the many aspects of his personality (Prinsstraat library).
- The Pr. d. Vl. Provinces of the entire body of work went to Hubert Lampo this year
For 1984, the province of Antwerp is issuing two prizes for history and folk science, each 25,000 fr. Requested original, unpublished studies of the
- province of Antwerp (for history). The prize for folk science can go to an already published work. Information: provincial cultural service, Koningin

The Ver. for the promotion of the Vl. This year, Book Industry is also holding Book Fair competitions. The Referendum of Vl. Youth and Children's

1984.

• Baardegem

The Association of Flemish-National Authors is organizing a literary prize camp for young authors (up to 25 years old). The following is requested: An
original travel story of a maximum of 150 lines, a 'journey' of 100 m to an unlimited number of km. The award-winning receives 2,000 Fr.

+ 2 × 2,000 fr.) - c. from 17 to 21 years (5,000 + 2 × 2,000 fr.) - d. above the age of 21 (10,000 + 2 × 3,000). Submit a maximum of 2 poems (typed in
triplicate on quarto) anonymously before 30 June under the pseudonym, with closed identification address to: Dhr. J. Vleugels, Vz. Vl. Club,

- The Bert Leysen prize for TV went to 'A poet in Texas' by Dirk Christiaens and Jef Cornelis, which was retransmitted on 15/3.
The circle Op de Uitkijk of the ASLK has awarded literary work by ASLK staff for the first time. Among the Flemish, the 1983 Grand Prize went to

The VEV committee in Brussels decided on 19/11/84 to award a prize of 50,000 francs for the best study on 'Brussels, capital of a new Belgium' . In

• The Hague

The General-Dutch Association (Visser-Neerlandia Prizes) makes an amount available in 1984 for original theater plays written in Dutch (no translations
or adaptations of novels, novels, radio plays or television plays; no text for opera or operetta). Duration for an evening-filling piece of no less than two

hours and for a one-act piece 45 minutes. Amount: filling for evening between f 1,000 and f 5,000 for a one-act between f 500 and f 1000. Jury: Hans
Keuls, Carel Alphenaar and Alfons van Impe. The play may not have been submitted before for a Visser-Neerlandia competition, nor have it been
performed or appeared in print before 1 December 1984. Typed games under the pseudonym or motto must be sent in triplicate before 1 August 1984 to:
Algemeen-Nederlands Verbond, Surinamestraat 28 , 2585 GJ The Hague. Enclose a closed envelope with the pseudonym and the title of the game. Insert
a paper with the title, name and address of the author in this envelope. The jury report and the prizes awarded will be made public before 1 December
1984.

• Ghent

The City Council annually awards a prize of 25,000 fr. To promote literature. For 1984, reserved for theater, listening texts or script scripts for television
. Those who have not reached the age of 40 on 1 January can participate. Award-winning works are not eligible for the prize. Only one work per
participant (unpublished or published since at most five years). Registered and at least in duplicate, at the College of Mayor and Aldermen, no later than
30 April. Complete regulations at the Cultural Affairs Department of the City of Ghent, Sint-Pietersplein 10, (tel. 091/21 1916). The same prize is
reserved for a study of history, antiquity or folkloric nature about Ghent. - The Bocari Prize 1983 for poetry goes to Mia van der West, from Brumen,
(Dutch); for short stories to Leonce Bekemans from Bruges; for essay to Roland Leune from Denderleeuw and Bart Stouten from Ekeren. The publishing
Boeklandt publishes a yearbook with texts from as yet unknown authors, compiled from the submissions (100 fr. Br. 440.0045381.57). The Bocari
publishing house (Groendreef 107, 9000 Ghent) has also introduced two new prizes: the 'positive prize' awarded to Ward Ruyslinck and Jeroen
Brouwers, respectively. for their work 'Empty houses' and 'The last door'. The 'negative price', intended for a work that despite the name and fame of the
author has become a failure, has not yet been awarded. The publishing house also organizes a literature competition for all literary genres for poetry,
novels, short stories, italics, aphorisms, novels, essays, theater, criticism and travel reports for 1984. The number of entries per participant is unlimited
and may include various genres. In principle, a work is awarded for each genre. No cash prizes: we believe it is more important that the prize-winning
works (+ a selection of the non-award-winning ones) are distributed on the widest possible scale, by publishing a special publication. The typed

The Poetry Prize v. Tds. Yang went to Gwij Mandelinck for his latest collection, "Sadness is within reach." (Ed. Lannoo 1983). His work is studied in

Yang 113. Rudolf van de Perre spoke the laudatio.

• Hasselt-Maastricht

• Izegem

The Izegemse Persprijs was awarded to Anton Strobbe, editor, printer and publisher of the Druivelaaralmanak known and appreciated throughout
Flanders.
For the Poetry Prize of Izegem , only one Dutch-language, unpublished and uncrowned poem must be submitted; typed on Din A4 (21 × 29.7), in
- sixfold at the address: Third Poetry Prize, City Hall, Izegem. Under spell in a closed envelope, with attached identification envelope (address +
telephone). Prices: a work of art, book packages, city maps.

• Keerbergen

750 poems were submitted for the Keerbergen Poetry Competition. In addition, more than 1200 poems came in for selection for an anthology to be
published; it was composed by Frans Cornelis and Angele Selschotter. Received a prize: 1. Bart Madou (Zedelgem), 2. LM van den Brande (Mechelen),

• Koksijde

An aphorism competition - prizes of 8,000, 5,000 and 2,000 fr. - is organized by the tds. "Lifting," Marie-Joséstr. 72. Submit a maximum of three
unpublished aphorisms before 1 July; maximum one line per aphorism; enclose stamps with correspondence.

• Koekelare

The Golden Phoenix was awarded by the VKH (Circle of Friends Art Houtland) to our editor Raf Seys, for his cultural activity including for the VW
Schrijvers.

• Kortessem

Pieter G. Buckinx was named honorary citizen by his native village; he was honored there on 31/3.

• Lead

A competition is being organized for the best essay on the role of inspiration and reason in poetry. To be submitted no later than 30 June: Poetry and

The Dean J. van Herck Prize for Archeology and Art History went to Drs. Ch. Coppens (KUL) for 'Miroir de la bonne mort: a 17th-century Ars
Moriendi'.

• Lokeren

On the occasion of her 75th birthday, literary writer Yvonne Waegemans was celebrated on 5 May by the management and population of her hometown.

• Maaseik

The Carnival award 'Het Heilig Wammes' was awarded this year to literary philosopher Phil Bosmans for his work for ordinary people. He has been
standing since February. 81 in 'Der Spiegel' among the top ten of the most sold non-fiction books in Germany.

• Meise

The 1984 Jules Van Campenhout poetry prize was won by Jules Van Meenen, Kortrijk; 2nd prize: Gery Florizoone, Bruges and 3rd: Monika Lo Cascio,
Brussels.

• Ruiselede

In preparation for a Mill Procession, 'De Vrije Ruiseledenaar' organizes a competition for all Dutch speakers. It asks: (1) an essay of max. 7,000 words,
under the title "Are we fighting for or fighting windmills?", Dealing with the economic crisis; (2) a fairy tale about the relationship between youth and
adults (with a character who has 'a stroke of the mill ...'); (3) a poem about 'The windmill and / in the landscape'. Information: Luc Lema, Poekevoetweg

• St. Michiels

For the 10th Poetry Competition of the Rederijkerskamer companions of Saint Michael can participate all young people between 16 and 25 years. The

The Vers-poetry prize 1984 was won by Miel Vanstreels, Maastricht; 2nd prize: Gery Florizoone, Bruges for bundle 'Approximate'.

• St.-Truiden

The jury of the 3rd Hendrik Prize for short stories by tds Appel received 66 stories from 44 authors. He awarded 'Genese' by Romain John van de Maele
(Heverlee). Jury members: Guido Bex, Leopold Nicolai and Guido Wulms. A work by sculptor Willy Ceyssens was handed over to the laureate.
The tds 'Appel' is also organizing the Poetry Prize of St.-Truiden in 1984. Send five original and unpublished poems in triplicate: Red. 'Appel',
- Houtstraat 37; under spell with closed identification cover (+ 2 reply stamps). The tds. publishes a selection every three months. Jury chaired by J.
Wilmetz. The price is a valuable work of art. Proclamation in early October.
In addition, 'Appel' organizes the Verhalenwedstrijd Hendrik Prijs . All genres are allowed; max. 10 pages for 30 lines of 60 stops. Same control
- conditions as for the poems. Jury chaired by G. van Oorlé. Prize: a work of art and publication in 'Appel'; the 2nd prize consists of publication only.
Both competitions are open to all Dutch writers.

• Tongeren

The 1st Humor Prize Henri Baillieu van Tongeren went to Jos Ghysen and consisted of an art forging by Raf Verjans.

• Valkenburg

Our Dutch CVKV member the author and painter Paul Haimon was honored on 13/11 on the occasion of his 70th birthday at the Lett. Castle East
Center. His literary and pictorial work were exhibited there. A tribute book "Paul Haimon" also appeared, which was offered to him there by the Ver. v.
Limb. Authors (VLA).

• Westmeerbeek

'Automation' is the theme of the anthology that is compiled by tds. 't Kofschip, following the Poetry Prize v. Blankenberge. Send poems: Albert

• Amstelveen

For the 2nd Dutch. Cartoon festival is the theme: "Laughter is still allowed". Max Submit 3 works (30 × 40 or 40 × 50): Department of Culture, Raadhuis

• Antwerp

The Provincial prize for plastic arts (Fr. 60,000), this year for printmaking, was awarded to Hugo Besard (Brasschaat) for his two trilogues 'Life Cloth
dedicated to Freya' and 'In the sign of the black grouse'. Dirk Van der Eecken, Ingrid Ledent and Linda Ruyttelynck won premiums. The provincial
applied arts prize, worth 80,000 francs and awarded for ceramics, went to Johan van Geert (Antwerp), with his 'Pyramids'. Urbain Crapé, Anne Ausloos
and Rudie Delanghe received premiums. A selection of the submitted works can be viewed until 11 March in the Ter Dilft cultural center in Boom.
The Voorkempend district of the Lions Clubs International wants to spend 160,000 Fr. on a Grand National Prize for Watercolor . Information: Henri

The 3rd Festival Intern. From 3 to 8 May, the Film des Métiers d'Art shows professional documentaries about art crafts, artisans and artists.

• Barcelona

The Mini-Print International is organized by the Taller Galleria Fort, Major de Gràcia 7, Barcelona 12, Spain. It is a competition that is open to all artists

Tony Houbrechts from Alken became laureate of the sixth International Cartoonale 1983 of Beringen , with the theme 'Show and Theater'. 124
participants from 13 countries participated. - Among the entries there is one Fleming: Luc Descheemaecker (Torhout). The same competition takes place

• Bologna (It.)

In the Graphic Prize of the International Youth Book Fair of Bologna, Italy, the book 'Boerenjongens' by Henri van Daele, illustrations by Gregie de
Maeyer, received an honorable mention. The book is a publication of Lannoo in collaboration with the Davidsfonds.

• Brussels

A homage exhibition was dedicated to the painter Broeder Emiel 90 in the St. Lucas gallery. From 1921 until his retirement teacher of painting at the H.

successful contemporary building, in harmony with the historic environment. Only private individuals or private bodies are eligible, not large retailers

or banks. The building, completed during the years 1982-1983, must be located within the historical area of ​the affiliated cities. The sum of the works
performed, visible from the public road, must be at least Fr. 500,000 (excl. VAT). The intention is to stimulate construction and also to focus attention

Seven state prizes honored an artist's career, that of the ceramicist Carmen Dionyse, the fashion designer Mary Prijot, the furniture designer Pieter De

Bruyne, the sculptor Roel D'Haese, the painters Octave Landuyt and Luc Peire and the draftsman Raoul Servais.
Batibouw organized a competition for the Belgian Architecture Schools. Seventeen schools participated. A student of Prov. Hasselt. Inst. v.
-
Architecture, Martina Put, was awarded for a renovation plan. She is the wife of Architekt Bart Lens.
The Jury of the 1984 Brick Prize awarded four projects together: the Lapidarium of the Brugse Centraal Kerkhof (Johan Bellaert), the rest home for
religious in Borsbeek (Ferre Verbaenen), a single-family home in Villers-la-Ville (Cooparch) and a home in Tilff (arch. Dumont and Genotte).

Subsequently the prize of the Clay Industry was awarded to arch. De Cock (office Danheux and Maroye, Tubize) with a mention. for arch. Ramboer

The Belgian Institute for Information and Documentation 'Inbel' has just launched a national photo competition . Participation is free of charge for
everyone. Eligible is creative photography that appeals to a wide audience in terms of content, technical integrity and / or artistic character. The
participants can deal with a freely chosen topic and / or an imposed topic (application of state-of-the-art technologies in industry). Prizes: 100,000 for

The Buggenhout town council is organizing a competition for Fr. 20,000, reserved for sculpture . The artists must come from or live in Antwerp, Brabant
and East Flanders. Each artist may present a maximum of three works. The works must be brought in on 10 or 11 and collected again on 17 or 18

The Cultural Working Group is the second time to award the Collective Evergem Prize . The competition is open to all visual artists from home and
