Field Report – Internship Experience

School District: Birmingham Public Schools

School / Administrative unit: Bingham Farms Elementary / Professional Learning

Mentor: William Pugh, Coordinator for Professional Learning

Description of mentor’s job: Bill oversees our Professional Learning K-12. He is in


charge of our online PL program – Pathways. He evaluates and works closely with the
Teaching & Learning Department team to plan all of the face-to-face, online and
blended PL in the district. He is also in charge of the NEW TEACHER INDUCTION
PROGRAM and the MENTORSHIP PROGRAM.

Description of environment:
Birmingham Public Schools is located in Oakland County. We have 8 elementary
schools, 2 middle schools, one 3-8 building and 3 HS (one alternative HS).

Work that we have completed together:


I have had the opportunity to work closely with Bill to redesign the Professional
Learning format for the past 2 Back to School weeks of Professional Learning.
We are currently working together to plan the New Teacher Induction Program for
2019 and create a new Mentorship program for K-12 in Birmingham.
