MARKS WEIGHTAGE – 03 marks

Previous Years Board Exam (Important Questions & Answers)

1. Use elementary column operation C2 C2 – 2C1 in the matrix equation

 4 2  1 2   2 0 
 3 3   0 3  1 1 
    
Ans:
 4 2  1 2   2 0 
Given that    
 3 3  0 3  1 1 
Applying C2 C2 – 2C1, we get
 4 6  1 2   2 4
 3 3  0 3   1 1
    

 a  4 3b   2a  2 b  2 
2. If   write the value of a – 2b.
 8 6   8 a  8b 
Ans:
 a  4 3b   2a  2 b  2 
Give that  
 8 6   8 a  8b 
On equating, we get
a + 4 = 2a + 2, 3b = b + 2, a – 8b = – 6
 a = 2, b = 1
Now the value of a – 2b = 2 – (2  1) = 2 - 2 = 0

3. If A is a square matrix such that A2 = A, then write the value of 7A – (I + A)3 , where I is an
identity matrix.
Ans:
7A – (I + A)3 = 7A - {I3 + 3I2A + 3I.A2 + A3}
= 7A – {I + 3A + 3A + A2A} [ I3 = I2 = I , A2 = A]
= 7A – {I + 6A + A2} = 7A – {I + 6A + A}
= 7A – {I + 7A} = 7A – I – 7A = –I

 x  y z   1 4 
4. If    , find the value of x + y.

Ans:
 x  y z   1 4 
Given that   

Equating, we get
x - y = -1 … (i)
2x - y = 0 …(ii)
z = 4, w = 5
(ii) – (i)  2x – y – x + y = 0 + 1
