A. Company Profile and History
A.1 Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC)

To develop and expand the metals industry of the Philippines, Republic Act
No. 4724, dated June 18, 1966, established the MIRDC. The center was primarily
tasked to work for close rapport between the government and the industry in order
to foster the advancement of metals engineering and allied industries in the country.

This was amended by Republic Act No. 6428, dated May 31, 1972,
reorganizing and renaming the MIDC into Metals Industry Research and
Development Center (MIRDC), giving it corporate existence and enlarging its
power. The administration of the Center and the exercise of its corporate authority
were vested exclusively in a Board or Trustees organized under this Act.

Later presidential issuances reflected the Centers change of thrust and

direction. These were Executive Order No. 602, transferring the MIRDC from the
National Science Development Board to the Ministry of Trade & Industry for
policy and program coordination and direction; Presidential Decree No. 1765,
reorienting it’s thrust from research and development to direct assistance to the
metals industry; and Executive Order No. 128, transferring the Center from the
Department of Trade & Industry to the Department of Science & Technology as a
separate and attached agency.

Finally, Executive Oder No. 494 dated December 6, 1991 transformed the
MIRDC into a regular government agency attached to the Department of Science
and Technology. This was fully implemented on 27 May 1993,

V. Experience Gained

Two day plant tour give us a lot of inspiration and motivation. It make me realize
the true meaning of work in our field as an Industrial Engineering. This activity help us to
visualize what every production area are and how it works, what are the needed process
behind every finished product produce by manufacturing company.

To sum up, I earned lot of knowledge about the real world situation especially in
production, in planning and the importance of computerized control process.

VI. Learning Acquired

All companies gave an orientation of what Industrial Engineers do in their

company, what materials they utilize and processes they use, I have learned a lot from the
visitation. One of these newly acquired knowledge is the machines and techniques used by
the companies to be able to improve their processes and continue achieving the high-quality
standard. Also one of the knowledge I gained from this subject is the importance of
commitment, time, and effort you need to put on every work you do.

VII. Recommendation and Suggestions

A. School
The subject plant tour and seminar must be always present in the curriculum. This
kind of tour must be always provided in order for the students to enhance their knowledge
concerning to the field they have taken. It will also help students to be familiarized and
ready for their upcoming works in the real world.

B. Class
As graduating students we all know that the discussion in every class in our school
is insufficient for us to fully determine all the things we need to know for our future job.
This kind of subject or activity will help in order to connect with other people and to gain
learning and add knowledge about the different process in making different products. And
also to know what is going on to the said Real World.

C. Company
All companies must be ready to share knowledge and to view their manufacturing
situation. The companies must need to have a representative in order to give small talk or
orientation about the do’s and don’ts inside the company that will also give some definition
first and most important; they need to share their experience in working in the industry.
