Conventions
This manual uses the following typographical conventions:
Typeface Meaning
Note:
The character “x” in a pack file name stands for the actual pack version number.
Users can download, activate, and validate a version for the BSC.
Version Description
Backup version A version that has been downloaded to the Operation Main Process
(OMP) board from the Network Element Management System (EMS)
but has not been downloaded to the corresponding board.
Default version A version that has been downloaded to the corresponding board but has
not been validated.

Version Description
Particular version A particular version downloaded to a board and is later than the default
version.
Figure 1-1 illustrates how the version status and storage location change with the software
version management operations.
1.3 Prerequisites
For all operations subsequent to this section, the following prerequisites are presumed to
have been met:
l The EMS server and the Operation & Maintenance Module (OMM) server are ready
and can communicate with the BSC properly.
l The EMS client has been started and successfully connected to the EMS server.
l Software version management permissions have been acquired.
l The version packs to be used are available.
l The Software Version Management tab is open on the client GUI.

2.1 Overview
Users can perform management operations to the version packs of one or multiple BSCs
managed by the EMS server. These operations are:
l Downloading a version pack
l Activating a version pack
l Validating a version pack
l Deleting a version pack
The following procedure describes how to download a version package from the EMS
client to the OMP board of a BSC.
Steps
1. In the left pane of the Software Version Management tab page, expand the target
subnetwork and then the RNC node in the NE tree.
2. Right-click Controller-OMP, and then click Version Download. The Version
Download dialog box is displayed, see Figure 2-1.

The following procedure describes how to delete an unused version pack from the OMP
board of a BSC.
Steps
1. In the left pane of the Software Version Management tab page, expand the target
subnetwork and then the RNC node in the NE tree.
2. Double-click Controller-OMP. The Controller-OMP tab page is displayed in the right
pane, listing all available default version packs on the Default Version sub-tab page,
see Figure 2-2.

3. Select one version pack, or use the CTRL key to select multiple version packs,
right-click any selected version pack, and then click Delete Package. The Delete
Version Pack dialog box is displayed, see Figure 2-3.
Warning!
Ensure that the version activation permission has been acquired. After version activation,
all boards will be restarted and a service interruption will occur.

After a version pack is activated, the OMP board multicasts the version files in the pack to
the corresponding boards in the BSC to replace the original default version files.
The following procedure describes how to activate a version pack.
Prerequisite
The version pack to be activated has been downloaded to the OMP board.
Steps
1. In the left pane of the Software Version Management tab page, expand the target
subnetwork and then the RNC node in the NE tree.
2. Double-click Controller-OMP. The Controller-OMP tab page is displayed in the right
pane, listing all available default version packs on the Default Version sub-tab page.
3. Select one version pack, or use the CTRL key to select multiple version packs,
right-click any selected version pack, and then click Active Version. The Active
Version Pack dialog box is displayed, see Figure 2-4.
5. Click OK.

Warning!

Users can activate a particular version for one or multiple boards in a BSC, meaning
transfer required version files in a particular version pack to the board(s).
The following procedure describes how to activate a particular version pack.
Prerequisite
The version pack to be activated has been downloaded to the OMP board.
Steps
1. In the left pane of the Software Version Management tab page, expand the target
subnetwork and then the RNC node in the NE tree.
2. Double-click Controller-OMP. The Controller-OMP tab page is displayed in the right
pane, listing all available default version packs on the Default Version sub-tab page.
3. Select one version pack, or use the CTRL key to select multiple version packs,
right-click any selected version pack, and then click Appointed Active Version. The
Version Appointed Active Selected dialog box is displayed, see Figure 2-5.

Prerequisite
The version pack loaded to the OMP board has been activated.

subnetwork and then the RNC node in the NE tree.
