 OBITUARY
Tom Lund
Tom Lund, 91 born in Hinsdale
,MT passed away May 14, 2019 at St
Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula, MT from
Congestive Heart Failure with his family
gathered around him providing him with
love and support. Tom was
born March 22, 1928 in Hinsdale MT to
Hilmer Lund and Anna (Croxton) Lund.
He spent most of his life around the Fort
Peck, Glasgow and Nashua areas. He lived
his last years in Frenchtown, MT at the
home of his youngest daughter Tammie
and Dwayne Smith with his beloved wife
Betty of 64+ years.
Tom had a zest for life and an
extreme will to live that amazed any and
all. He always had a childhood story to
tell someone, from his dog Butch, to the
rattlesnakes on the porches, to the fights
he and his brothers, Jim and Bill, got
into. He helped his dad, Hilmer, on their
ranch for many years. He always gave
credit to his sister Junne for being the
best at milking the cows, his sister Leora
for helping their mom keep the house in
order and his sister Viola for being the
one he wished he could look after more.
He was the last of his siblings to have
passed away.
January 15, 1955, Tom married the
love of his life, Betty Jane Sand Lund. He
worked for the Army Corps of Engineers
in Fort Peck most of his adult life.
Tom’s greatest legacy is his family
and his identity in life was his big heart,
hearty laugh, mischievous grin and his
true lifelong title of Montana Cowboy.
You couldn’t say the word Cowboy
without a smile on your face and thinking
of Tom Lund. If a friend or a neighbor
needed help, Tom Lund was always there
to lend a helping hand and he brought
humor to the event. He loved his friends,
his horses and his family. He loved to
bowl, play basketball, play softball, rope
and brand. He loved storytelling and
everyone loved to hear his stories.

and respect for all of his wonderful

Tom Lund’s memorial will be held
on September 1, 2019 at Fort Peck Rec
Hall, Fort Peck, Montana at 11:00 a.m.
Lunch will be served. Tom was cremated
and it was his wish to be buried in Fort
Peck when his beloved wife is buried so
there will be no burial at this time.

EDUCATION CAREER SCHOLARSHIPS
Valley County Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma of Society of
Teachers is offering two scholarships for college students who are in
pursuit of a degree and career in education.
One scholarship will be given to a high school graduate of a Valley
County school who has completed enough credits to have a college
sophomore standing and will be attending an accredited college of
university in the next school year.
The Second scholarship will be given to a teacher employed in a Valley
County school and is enrolled in post graduate classes in the field of
education.
Each scholarship is valued at $500.
Applications are available at a school counselor office or contact Sheila
Peterson, Fort Peck. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE JULY 1, 2019 and

Expanding the Supreme
Court and Abolishing
the Electoral College
It’s historical....and hysterical....
that whenever the Democrats lose an
election they conjure up several or more
ways of never allowing that to happen again.
They’ll stay P.O.’ed about Trump besting Hillary until
the proverbial freezing over of Hades. It’s just in their nature
folks. Nothing wrong with that. They’re just mis-guided.
But now, in a lame attempt to win elections from now
on they have demanded that we eliminate the electoral
college. Anyone who knows what the electors do can see
the damage that could do to the country. It would make the
United States a virtual dictatorship because no Republicans
could ever win an election. The electors sorta’ level the
playing field.
The rules can’t be changed just because one side
whines about some imagined unfairness. I would agree
with the issue of eliminating the electoral college IF both
sides thought it would be a good idea and IF there was an
overwhelming yea vote about the issue.
Now there is talk about “stacking”, “packing” and
expanding the Supreme Court of the United States. Again,
suggested by the Democrats.
Bernie Sanders finally showed up with a modicum of
sense and said he was not in favor of expanding the Court.
He cited FDR’s failed attempt at doing the same thing back
in the 1930’s.
Colorado’s Senator Michael Bennett also cited FDR’s
failure and echoed Sanders.
New Jersey’s Senator Cory Booker is also against
expanding the Court saying “where does it stop? It’s a race
to the bottom.”
I’m not sure what a “race to the bottom” really means.
You’ll have to figger that one out yourownselves.
My most unfavorite and scary presidential hopeful,
Kamala Harris of California exhibited her grasp of the
English language when she eloquently stated... “I am open

to that discussion. I’m open to it. I’m absolutely open to it.”
C’mon Kammy-baby can’t you tell us how you really
feel about the issue?
Some of those in favor of expansion include....and to no
one’s surprise....Montana’s own ex-governor Steve Bullock
who is maybe definitely for expanding the SCOTUS. He
doesn’t give a reason.
Mass Rep Seth Moulton has the huevos to say nothing
about the actual expansion but cited the “Republicans
playing hardball with the Democrats but the Democrats
not playing hardball back.” Yikes! And OMG! Has he been
living under a rock? He has that statement seriously twisted.
Another presidential hopeless is Washington’s
Governor Jay Inslee who, in true political fashion skirted
the real question about expanding the SC and did this spin
saying “ I’m open to any idea that can make sure a woman’s
right of choice is protected”, thus guaranteeing him the
votes of his female constituents. Right on Dude!
Here’s the best one. Former Maryland Representative
John Delaney, looking at the future optimistically through
rose colored glasses opined, “If we grow the Supreme Court
during my presidency then we just have to expect that’ll
happen when the Republicans are in power.”
He’s making two assumptions here; “during my
presidency” assuming by some major miracle the sun rises
in the West and he actually wins the right to sit in the Oval
Office, and “when the Republicans are in power” saying he
believes that after his presidency the Republicans will win.
At any rate these things are what we need to watch for
in the near future. I don’t believe the Democrats have the
cajones to make either the SCOTUS or the Electoral College
expand or go away respectively. They were both thunk up
by the founding fathers and have served their purpose for
lo these many years.
If it ain’t broak, don’t fix it!
