1. Who is author?
Brent H. Wiles
2. What is the name of the theses/dissertation?
College Football Rankings: An Industrial Engineering Approach
3. What is the year of the theses/dissertation?
2013
4. What institution did the author go to? (Usually on title page.)
University of Arkansas, Fayetteville
5. What was the purpose of the study? (You can retype it. It’s okay if it is word for
word.)
“In 2012, each team in each of the BCS bowls received a payout of $17 million, with an
extra million per team being paid out for the championship game. This is compared to
the next largest bowl game payout of just $4.5 million (Statistic Brain, 2012). With an
increase of nearly 400% between those bowls, it is easy to see why it is so crucial that
the teams are properly ranked and placed in these games; this is the goal of the
ranking system considered in this work.” (Page 4)
6. What was the conclusion of the study? (Usually on last page. You can type it word
for word.)
“By incorporating additional ranking factors and allowing their weights to be variable,
the CMS+ system has received many new benefits. Not only do these changes provide
improvement and increased balance to the rankings, but they also open multiple
doors for the direction the system wants to go. “ (Page 25)
7. Why would this particular study be important in your field? (We are assuming it is
important.)
It would be important be industrial engineers because we optimize systems and
processes by improving new assimilated systems. In this paper, Brent says that in the
future that all and any user will be able create a practical ranking for football teams
using factors they think are important only.
8. Pretend that you want to do a similar study to this one. What would you do
different? Why? (This must be a complete paragraph. Five – eight sentences.
Extraneous material will not be counted. Nor, will I could sentences such as “I would
do a lot different.” Your response must be very specific.
If I could do anything differently I would concentrate more CMS+ System History of
the Football Rankings. I would focus more and put more detail because if you’re
learning or hearing about this for the first time then it could be confusing. The CMS+
System History is the background of the whole ranking problem the author is trying to
prove how to fix the CMS+ system, so I would add more examples and more detail of
the CMS+ System in order for my readers to get a good history lesson before going
into an intense problem.

and agency theory, which assumes that all individuals are prone to self-serving behavior”
