FIX THE LAUNCESTON HEALTH CRISIS

TO THE HONOURABLE THE SPEAKER AND MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY.

The petition of the undersigned Citizens of Tasmania draws to the attention of the House:
The alarming findings of the Auditor-General report into the “Performance
Heartbeat of Tasmania’s four major hospitals in the delivery of Emergency
Department services”;
Heartbeat The report clearly shows the Launceston General Hospital is in crisis;
Heartbeat The LGH is operating at its highest level of escalation 70.7 per cent of the time;
Adverse incidents at the hospital are increasing because there simply are not
Heartbeat enough beds;
In financial year to date ambulances have spent 2587 hours queued on the
Heartbeat ramp at the LGH, during which time they are unable to respond to calls from
the community.

Your Petitioners therefore request the House to:

Call on the Liberal Government to open additional beds at the LGH to meet
Heartbeat demand;
Call for the recruitment of additional health professionals to adequately staff
Heartbeat additional beds and existing rosters;
Call for the Liberal Government to commit to implementing the 10
Heartbeat recommendations in the Auditor General’s report in full.
