1 lnstruction
The Iabaratory Entwicklungs- und Prüflabor Holztechnologie GmbH (EPH) was instructed by
SEDACOR, S. Paio de Oleiros, Portugal to determine the thermal conductivity and thermal
resistance according to ISO 8302 and the improve1ment of the impact noise insulation ac-
cording to DIN EN ISO 140-8.
2 Test material
The costumer made the following cork samples available to the EPH-Iaboratory (denomina-
tions of the customer):
Variant/
Denomination Remarks
No.
1 Sedacor "Corklnsu" - 20 mm two samples: 500 mm x 500 mm x 20 mm
2 Sedacor 15MS - 2 mm one roll: 12 m x 1 m x 2 mm
3 Sedacor 15MS - 4 mm one roll: 12 m x 1 m x 4 mm
4 Sedacor 15MS - 6 mm one roll: 12 m x 1 m x 6 mm
3 Test methods
ISO 8302: The determination of the thermal conductivity and thermal resistance was carried
out according to ISO 8302. For determination of th~e thermal conductivity and thermal re-
sistance, a two-plate-device "TLP 900-H" was used.
The samples were conditioned at 23 oc and 50% rH until mass stability was achieved.
The specimens were tested directly after the conditioning .
DIN EN ISO 140-8: The test was performed in a test room, where a reinforced concrete slab
of a thickness of 14 cm is installed. There were carried out measurements of the noise
transmitted to the room below the concrete floor with a rotating microphone while the flooring
was excited by use of a tapping machine (type Norsonic). Each flooring was excited at
8 different places and a mean 1/3 octave spectrum was calculated according to DIN EN ISO
140-8. Mean spectra from measurements with and without installed floor coverings where
used to calculate the impact noise reduction according to DIN EN ISO 717-2.

DIN EN ISO 140-8: The 1/3 octave spectra measurements achieved at Iabaratory conditions
according to DIN EN ISO 140-8 are used for the calculation of the impact noise reduction and
the spectrum values according to DIN EN ISO 717-2.

5 Summary
Values of the evaluated impact noise reduction from 17 dB to 18 dB where estimated for
variants 2 to 4 (table 4). A graphical presentation of the impact insulation according to
DIN EN ISO 140-8 and DIN EN ISO 717-2) is enclosed in the annex.
