CONTENT: Empowering not Enslaving Technologies

CONTENT STANDARDS: The learner understands how ICT enslaves emancipates and empowers individuals.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: The learner organizes and mobilizes an event that deals with a significant global issue using ICT .

BEYOND LEARNING COMPETENCIES: The learners explain in front of the class about their understanding on how they deals with a significant global issue using ICT.
OBJECTIVES/COMPETENCIES: identify the weakest link in a system using strategic and intuitive thinking
ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING: Developing students understanding on” ethics of care” intercoonections between the neural and socail realities to become the 21st century learner.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: 1. Why it is important to understand the “ethics of care”?


2. How can we apply neural connections in this 21st century?
3. Why do we need to know social realities?

PROCEDURE
A. INTRODUCTORY (5 mins)
ACTIVITIES/PRESENTATION OF Group activity:
OBJECTIVES/MOTIVATION Video Clips Analysis
The class will watch a short clip about the proper use of technology.
Ask:
1. What are the mistakes portrayed in the clip?
2. Will you give other instances where you have used technology in a rather inappropriate way?
B. INSTRUCTION DELIVERY My Everyday in a Glance: Timetable Worksheet
In a learning that are advantages and disadvantage in using ICT tools, how then do you manage your time when using the ICT tools?
For this activity ,the students will be given timetable worksheets to budget their time for a typical day.
At the end of the activity , the teacher will ask for 5 volunteers to present their timetable.
After presenting their timetables ,the teacher will ask the following process questions:
a. How does it feel to budget your time for each everyday activity?
b. Which do you prefer: a day with budgeted time for activities : or a day without any paln/ schedule ?why?
E. PRACTICE (22 mins)
2-Column Notes:
The 2-Column Notes will be posted on the board . In the 1st column is the list of ICT tools and in the 2nd column , the students will post what they think are the
proper uses of the ICT tools. The students will be given one the color -coded stips of paper where they will write down their answers-pink for facebook, orange for
smartphones ,yellow for TV.
The teacher will ask the students the following questions:
a.What are the things that ICT needlessly replaced?
b. What compromise or adjustments do you need to make to enjoy ICT properly?
The teacher will facililtatethe activity.
D. ENRICHMENT (3 mins)
Ask:
How should one utilize ICT?
Utilize technology effectively rather than be enslaved by it.
E. EVALUATION (3 mins)
Effective or Enslaving.
1. Using your smartphones as the only means to socialize with friends .
2. Using facebooks as a tool to disseminate information to a wider audience.
3. Movies and series marathon for 24 hours to your brand new LED t.v
4. Using your computer to make powerpoint presentation as a supplement not as sole material for your report.
5. Flooding your instagram account with lots of glamorous photos to boost your self-esteem
F. ASSIGNMENT The teacher will ask the student to read in advance for the next topic .
