THE ELEVATION OF STUDENTS POPULATION REGARDING DEPRESSION

Description of the study
The cases of depression are everywhere. In this generation, people are likely to feel
depressed especially teenagers. Depression is a common medical illness that negatively affects
how the teenagers feel, think and act. Nowadays, the number of students who felt this illness,
might lead to anxiety or worse, commit suicide. However, not all depressed students are suicidal
but most commit suicide are depressed.

In global, specifically in United States, studies indicate high prevalence of depression


and primary care population, and yet as many as 50% of depressed patients are not primary
care physicians. Primary care physicians in the US are often alerted to the presence of
depression by patients by physical distress. Fifty to seventy percent are primary care patients
with psychiatric illness, mainly mood disorders, present with somatic complaints.

In National, Philippines, there are more than 2,500 suicide deaths were recorded in
2012 and the DOH or Department of Health is working to prevent this issue. Since its launch in
2016, they received more than 7000 call from depressed person and 44% of them belong to the
age group from 13 to 29 years old. With this issue, DOH advised the public to seek help and
intervention for people who have signs of depression and history of suicide attempts.

In local, specifically in Davao region, the records at the Police Regional Office 11
shows that Davao City has the highest number suicide incidents with 25 in 2016 to 38 last year.
Furthermore, Davao del Norte is next to Davao City with 3 in 2016 to 13 in 2017. Then, followed
by Davao del Sur with 9 to 11 in the same period; Compostela Valley with 8 to 9; and Davao
Occidental with 5 to 8, also in the same period.

Studying this problem may help the students in general. How they act and how they
perceive towards the reality. With this study, it will give awareness and to help save lives. And to
guide the students who are having the signs of depression. Also, to give knowledge or further
information regarding depression, its causes and effects. Lastly, this study helps the suicidal
teenagers, give them beneficial treatments and also to change their perspectives in life.
Purpose of the study

The purpose of this study is to decrease the number of depressed students. And to
guide them and relieve them from depression. Also, to give knowledge about this illness. Also,
to give signs whether they are depressed or not. Lastly, to give awareness to everyone about
this problem and with that, they can help the depressed people.

The readers must answer the following questions for themselves: What makes you
depressed? How are you going to deal depression? How can you avoid depression? Are you
satisfied with your life?

Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries of the study are the students, parents, faculty members and staffs,
and the future researchers. With the help of this study, every beneficiary can grasp the ideal of
depression to a higher extent- how to deal with it, and what makes one triggered to feel
depressed. Also, they can use the knowledge in the near future. The study can be a great help
for the depressed people, also for the future researchers. Lastly, the parents who gained
knowledge from our study can help or advise their children or the depressed people.
