How does Social Media affect the student of ICT Students?

Introduction

Social Media is very popular now a days especially in students/teenager, and


social media is are interactive computer-mediated technologies that facilitate the creation
and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression
via virtual communities and networks. The variety of stand-alone and built-in social
media services currently available introduces challenges of definition; however, there are
some common features. (Wikipedia)

Social media is part of our daily lives, here we can quickly do research and gather
data on web. However, there are tendencies that social media has negative effects to
studies of students like ICT strand. It can easily distract a student by instead doing their
assignments or activities first.

According to Caylan Harrison (2018) she uses social to update her feed every
hour or mostly when she is bored. It does negative effect to her because by spending
many time doing school things to improve her life and academics than doing relaxing
things.

Chandler Strickland (2018) says that social media is a distraction to students."they


really pay too much attention on social media rather than consuming their time on doing
first their activities on class".

Ul Haq & Chand (2012) investigated the usage and popularity of famous social
media network (Facebook) among university students with special focus on the gender
based comparison and the impact of the selected social medium on their academic
performance. The two researchers evaluate the pattern and frequency of Facebook use
among university students while focusing gender differences and student opinion about
the impacts of this medium on academic performance. The research analyzes a random
sample of 384 respondents including an equal mix of males and females. The respondents
belong to undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs with a mean age of 21
years. Social media can be used to educate young people.

While talking to and advising kids and teens on a one-on-one basis is considered
ideal, social media can do the same much more effectively and to a broader audience all
at once. People like to use YouTube to express their opinions on various subjects. In the
process, they attract millions of views and climb to the top of search engines. This leads
to companies taking an interest in sponsorship and furnishing of better gear to make
better videos while showcasing their product. (Austin 2016).

In this study we want to know that does Social Media affect the students studies
we focus on if social media is very useful or not useful in their studies.
