Steel Layout Plan


1. Drawing title and number correct (typically drawing 600)?
2. Number of structures match GA and foundation plan?
3. I.D. of each steel structure correctly shown and match foundation plan?
4. I.D. of each steel structure correctly shown and match steel erection details?
5. North arrow?
6. Orientation of each structure indicated correctly?
7. Orientation of each structure match GA?
8. Orientation of each structure match foundation plan?

Erection Drawings
1. Drawing title and number correct (typically first sheet in the set of drawings for each
structure)?
2. Structure ID match Steel Layout Plan?
3. Orientation of structure shown correctly (e.g., match Steel Layout Plan)?
4. Horizontal dimensions match GA and steel layout drawing?
5. Vertical dimensions match GA and steel layout drawing (e.g., heights of steel structures
correct for the "top of the concrete" elevations shown on foundation drawings)?
6. Clearances for equipment correct?
7. Piece marks match fabrication drawings?
8. Column orientation shown correctly (match GA and foundation details)?
9. Beam orientation shown correctly (match GA)?
10. Bracing orientation shown correctly (match GA)?
11. Opposite hand structures clearly designated?

Fabrication Drawings
1. Drawing title and number correct (typically starts with second sheet in the set of
drawings for each structure)?
2. Dimensions match GA, steel layout drawing?
a. columns
b. beams
c. braces and other parts
3. Orientation of each piece correctly shown (match GA, Erection Drawing)?
a. columns
b. beams
c. braces and other parts
4. Piece marks match Erection Drawing?
a. columns
b. beams
c. braces and other parts
5. Number of each structure shown clearly (only if applicable)?
6. Opposite hand structures clearly designated?
7. Anchorage to foundation:
a. Hole size appropriate for anchor rod size shown on foundation drawings (i.e.,
5/16” or ¼” larger than anchor rod diameter)?
b. Hole layout match anchor rod layout shown on foundation drawings?
c. Anchor rod stick-up (shown on foundation drawings) long enough (e.g., allow for
+/- 1" steel adjustment)?
d. Grouting of base plate shown if required (if so, then should also be shown on
foundation drawings)?
8. Equipment Connections:
a. Total count of each piece of equipment (i.e., each apparatus) correct (match
GA)?
b. Hole size?
c. Number of holes?
d. Hole layout, bolt circle, etc.?
9. Steel Framing Connections:
a. Connection details (hole layout, size) match for mating pieces?
b. Interference with other connections or features avoided?
10. Parts list:
a. Piece mark match detail?
b. Size?
c. Dimensions?
d. Material?
e. Number?
f. Weight?
g. Total weight?
11. Drainage holes (for galvanizing process and for protection against long-term exposure to
weather) provided for tubes and other enclosed parts?
12. Grounding holes/tabs:
a. Layout consistent with MSE standard grounding details?
b. Double hole tab near base (typically required for all structures)?
c. Single hole tabs at 4 feet +/- o.c. (typically required for equipment supports,
switch stands, box structures, H- and A-frames; typically not required for single
pole lightning masts and bus supports with no other equipment attached)
13. Lighting Provisions:
a. Required on this structure (check GA)?
b. Dimensions to fixture correct?
c. Connection device (e.g., holes) correct size, layout?
d. Fastener tabs or other method for attaching Kelum grip?
14. Marshalling/Junction Boxes:
a. Mountings provided for all CVTs, CTs, other meeting equipment and fiber optics?
b. Mountings match locations and orientations shown on the General Arrangement?
c. Mountings match the size of the Marshalling/Junction boxes?
15. Connection Bolts:
a. Bolt count shown for each size/length of bolt?
