Install / Check Instruction PRY USB – RS232 Connection Kit

1.1 Set Description (Items included in the package)

1.2 Installation:
1. Enable Windows desktop on Voluson (refer to Service Manual for details).
2. Put the driver disc into your CD/DVD drive.
3. Connect the Connection Kit to one of the USB Outlets of the Voluson. (USB functionality must be enabled in BIOS)
4. The FOUND NEW HARDWARE WIZARD appears; if it asks to search for software on “Windows Update” (via internet)
choose NO and click NEXT to continue.
5. Follow the Hardware Wizard steps as described:

On Voluson V730: On Voluson i/e and E6/8 (with CD/DVD Drive):


 In the dialog box that comes up, choose  Leave the default choice (Install the software
“Search for a suitable driver for my device:” automatically), and click NEXT to continue.

6. After the driver files have been copied to the hard disk, a dialog box appears to tell you that the installation has
finished. Click FINISH.

1.3 Test setup:

1. Connect the RS-232 cable between System and Laptop/PC.


If the RS-232 cable is a “LINK” cable (pins are connected from one side to the other side across), disconnect Null
Modem Adapter from Connection Kit and connect your cable on its place. Otherwise connect your cable on the
free side on Null-Modem-Adapter.

2. Open the “HyperTerminal” Program on your Laptop.
(If you use HyperTerminal for the first time on your laptop you have to enter some information about your
country.)
3. In the “Connection Description” Dialog type “a” into
the “Name” field and press ENTER.

4. The “Connect to” dialog appears. From the “Connect


using” pull down menu, select the laptop’s COM port
which you have connected the RS 232 cable to.
Press ENTER.

5. The “COM Properties” dialog appears.
Check or set those values: 9600, 8, None, 1, None
Press click OK.

6. HyperTerminal is now ready to receive data.

1.4 Testing Connection:
1. At the Voluson System go to “DICOM Configuration” dialog; for details see description in the Service Manual.
2. In the “DICOM Configuration” dialog, click the add button. (If a REPORT destination exists already, select it from the
list, click “Edit” and modify the settings as described below)
3. Choose “Report” from the “Services” pull-down menu and “Serial” from the “Transfer” pull-down menu.
4. Enter following settings:

Usually the com-port to choose should be:


Voluson i/e, 730 Series: COM3
Voluson E8: COM4 or COM5 (depending on installed peripherals, that also use this ports)

If unsure please check in Device Manager (open “start menu” – choose “run” – enter “devmgmt.msc” and click ok)
of the Voluson System on which COM port the connection kit is connected and select this one in the settings
dialog. If the COM Port is automatically set out of range after installation, assign it to COM5 in Device Manager.
5. Save the settings and in the “DICOM Configuration” dialog select the line displaying “testlaptop”

6. Press the “Send Test Report” button.


7. The data is now being displayed on the laptop’s HyperTerminal display.
8. Open the file testreport.txt on your Voluson System, which is located in C:\V730\Distribution\MainSys\SonoView
and compare the data displayed on the laptop’s HyperTerminal with the contents of this file. The data must be
identical.
