Men started the journey from Stone Age and have reached to the modern age witnessing many

phases
of time with innumerable innovations from fire to firearms, from stone to mansion, from wood to
massive ships etc. but internet, which has brought a revolution to bring the uncountable,
unmeasureable changes in the lives of people.

Internet which everyone, educated or uneducated, rich or poor, uses and realizes its importance. In
today's modern world, Internet has influence on almost every aspect of daily life .Education, a unique
field, has been greatly impacted by the internet. All the information has been spreaded in the air which
can be access by anyone on a click and has made the life easier and has reduced the rush for
information. It has provided a faster connecting links to the loving ones irrespective of the fact in which
corner of the world he is present .With connectivity, people have come in contact with each other and
so has influenced each other's culture and tradition which can be seen in the shift of the people toward
westernization. At the same time it has reshapen our social values in a progressive manner as people
gets engaged with different societies, makes bond and develops a new culture which is not uncommon
in the modern age.

Using Internet for Entertainment

Entertainment, a part of life, has been reshapen by the internet in terms of sources, extent, type which
has a direct or indirect impact on the lives of people belonging to different stages. Youths or children
have access to new games, movies, songs, videos while the people belonging to older generations have
access to the entertainment of their likeness, their age which makes the people stress free, calm and
relieved. Availability of the information about different sciences of health and their practice video has
shapen the lives of youth as well as senior citizens of the world of different nations.

E-Governance Platform

Governance, which provides satisfaction to the people, has been promoted via e-governance platform
which has the potential as well as in real sense, may or have influenced the lives of poor or weaker
section of the people so that they might not feel deprived and agenda of the inclusive growth can be
fulfilled in sustainable manner.

Unemployment, a major issue about which the whole world is concerned may be addressed as people
may and are learning the new skills which can be harnessed in various sectors. At the same time, spread
of internet itself has provided various employment opportunities.

Internet has reduced the time in certain activities which initially were time consuming like ticket
booking, recharging etc.

Internet Attack and Cyber Terrorism

With the growth of internet, security concerns has also risen like the cyber threat, cyber war, cyber
terrorism whereby the privacy as well as lives of people always hinges on potential danger. It sometimes
facilitates the crimes by providing some immoral things which may provocate the individual to commit
some immoral activities like child rapes after watching child porns. With connectivity, it enables people
to learn some anti-societal things which bears a spot on daily life and affects the prestige of individual in
society like drinking, smoking or abusing. It also facilities, sometimes, the abuse of freedom of
expression or speech which may in turn tarnish someone's image or might hurt the dignity of the people
.Some anti social elements or terror organization influences the lives of people, generally in negative
terms, by using this platform by spreading some anti-religious about a section of the society which may
in turn produce the chaos in the society.

Problems with Internet Addiction

Addiction is another problem associated with it which bears the potential threat in terms of health
issues as it weans away the individual from physical activities and also sometimes misguide the youth
which may not be beneficial for the society.

Hence, one can see that, on one hand it has revolutionized the daily life of people directly or indirectly
and at the same time the potential threat that it bears on the daily lives of people cannot be ignored.

Just as the internet revolutionized how the world accessed information and communication through the
1990's the ongoing development in speed, bandwidth, and functionality will continue to cause
fundamental changes to how our world operates for decades to come. Millions of people worldwide are
using the internet to share information, make new association and communicate. Individual and
businesses, from students and journalists, to consultants, programmers and corporate giants are all
harnessing g the power of the internet. The major trends Globalism, Communities, Virtual realities,
Bandwidth, Wireless, Grids, and Integration are shaping the future of the internet are summarized
paragraph by paragraph along with extrapolated predictions.

The future of the internet global distribution of information and knowledge at lower and lower cost will
continue to lift the world community and generation to come. People will have access to any
information they wish, get smarter and sooner and be more aware of the world outside their local
environment. A better inform humanity will make better macro-level decisions, and an increasingly
integrated world will drive international relations towards a global focus. Attachment countries will
marginally decreases and attachment to the earth as a shared resource will significantly increases.

The future of the internet communication revolution is ongoing, now unities communities as it recently
united networks. Not everything about the internet is global; an interconnected world is also locally
interconnected. The internet will increasingly be used for communication within communities as much
as across countries local communities will organize in virtual space and take increasing advantage of
group communication tools such as mailing list, News groups, and websites, and towns, and cities will
become more organized and empowered at the neighborhood level.

The future of internet technology revolution will continue to be made in human's image. Experiments
with wide area voice and video communication on the internet began to be held in early 1990's. VOIP
began to be used voice communication in 2002. Internet video phones would not be far behind. The
virtual reality will be applied to innovative ways to navigate the internals information universe, for hyper
realistic games, and for group communications. There will come a day when we will be able to have
dinner with a group of friends each in a different city. The increasingly sophisticated virtual experiment
will continue to change how we understand the nature of reality, experience, art, and human relation.

The future of internet growth in bandwidth viability shows little sign of. Cable modems and telephones
based on DSL modems will continue to spread high speed internet throughout populated areas. High
resolution audio, video, and virtual reality will be increasingly available online and on demand, and the
cost of all kinds of internet connection will continue of drop.

The future of internet wireless communications is the wireless frequencies has two great advantages,
one is there are no infrastructure startup or maintenance costs other than the basic stations, and other
is it free users to become mobile, taking internet use from an dimensions to three. Wireless internet
networks will offer increasingly faster services at vastly lower costs over wider distances, eventually
pushing out physical transmission systems. The internet open TCP/IP design was originally inspired by
use of radio communication network in 1970's. The wireless technologies experimented with in the
1990's were continually improved by the early 2000's several technologies provides reliable, secure, high
bandwidth networking that work in crowded city centers and on the move, providing nearly the same
mobility for internet communications as for the cellular phone.

The future of internet grid movements is an inevitable as the spread of the internet seems now. The
connection of thousands of computers on the internet together to solve problems, often called "grid
computing". In a large scale example of the connected internet computer cycle from home users across
the world will be harnessed together to be provide enormous reservoirs of computer power for all sorts
of purposes. Increasingly used for scientific and engineering research, grids can create processing power
houses for larger than any one organization by itself.

The future of the internet integration with an increasingly number of other technology is as natural as a
musician's experimentation with notes. The internet will become increasingly integrated with phones,
televisions, home appliances, portable digital assistance, and range of other small hardware devices,
providing an unprecedented, nearly uniform layer of integrated data communication. User will be able
to across, status, and control this connected infrastructure from anywhere on the internet.
One of the leading efforts to define future of the next generation internet is the "Internet2 Projects"
which grew out of the transition of the NSFNET to the Very high speed Backbone Network Service
(vBNS). The vBNS supported very high bandwidth research applications.

The internet is a global network connecting millions of computers. It has linked about 190 countries for
exchange of data, news and opinions. About 40% of world's population is estimated to be the user of
internet. Largest numbers are from countries like China, America and India.

In this modern era, internet has become need of every bit of life. It has changed the way of living of
human beings and has transformed old era of less access and facilities to a fully accessed and luxurious
one. It has enclosed whole world in a box in which everything is easily accessible. Internet is another
milestone of science which has two faces, one is its advantages and another is its disadvantages in daily
life of humans. Let me start with its advantages.

Modern man is handicapped without internet. Internet has limitless advantages in our daily life. Its
advantages start with Google or other search engines which enable us to search any kind of information.
Information, News or pictures of almost whole world can be easily accessed by man while just sitting on
chair or laying in bed. Today no student, who is accessible to internet, is left behind due to lack of study
material or guidance. Internet is a source of every kind of information about every kind of subject. There
are lectures of top most teachers of every subject available in internet which could be accessed by any
student. Also teachers deliver their lectures to their students sitting across world through video
conference from one place at a time. These all things have made internet a boon in field of education.
Internet is playing a major role in integrating or exchanging cultures of world. It has enabled us to reach
out to the culture of any part of world. Internet is used by governments of many countries as a medium
to promote their culture. Information about heritages or wonders of world is easily available in internet.

Social networking is the one of the biggest achievements of internet. The social networking sites like
Facebook, Yahoo etc have made this whole world like a family. Such sites are also helping people in
finding their life partners. Hence these sites have become best friends of modern man.

Internet plays an important role in finding out paths while travelling. It helps in finding out nearby coffee
stores, restaurants, police stations, petrol pumps, hospitals etc.

Internet has enabled us to make online payments of phone bills, electricity bills etc. We can book Tickets
of Bus, Train and Airplane just by few clicks. Now there is no need to rush to banks for transferring
money as internet has made it possible to do at home. Online shopping is another pillar which is getting
hike these days. Internet is a huge source of entertainment. Movies, songs, and videos are available here
on internet. It has every information about songs and movies like upcoming, newly released and hit
ones.

Most importantly, internet has created millions of jobs and hence, curbing the problem of
unemployment in world. Internet's achievements are phenomenal. It is like a shining star which has
magical rays of information and those who are exposed to these rays experienced a transformation in
their life. There are disadvantages too which are impacting our life. When we say disadvantages, first
thing that comes to mind is hacking. Hacking has created a sense of insecurity among internet users.
Online money transfer has also become little insecure due to hacking. There are other illegal acts like
phishing, vishing and smishing which are defaming internet.

On one side social networking are integrating world but on other side same has become a medium for
dividing world. Some non secular forces are using these sites for promoting hatred for other religions,
castes etc. Terrorist groups are also using it to distract youth from mainstream life and engaging them in
militant activities. Also pornography has been proven curse for our society and culture. It has become a
worldwide business and has played a significant role in increasing crimes against women. Also it has
created fear among female internet users.

We know internet is source of utilitarian information but sadly it is also a source of virus which is
considered as a severe disease of computer. At last, despite of its cons internet has proven boon for
man but there is a lot which it has to achieve. Magical rays of this shining star are restricted to just 40%
of world's population. This number urgently needs to grow. Internet users are facing resistance from
language barrier. Only English known users can use internet easily, other languages just have their
footprints. These problems and shown disadvantages need to fixed and then we will see internet
transforming world into more resourceful world.

here is a big influence of technique on our daily life. Electronic devices, multimedia and computers are
things we have to deal with every day. Especially the Internet is becoming more and more important for
nearly everybody as it is one of the newest and most forward-looking media and surely "the" medium of
the future. Therefore it is necessary to think about some good and bad aspects of how this medium
influences us. The Internet changed our life enormously; there is no doubt about that. There are many
advantages of the Internet that show you the importance of this new medium. What I want to say is that
Internet changed our life in a positive way.

Life has become drastically smooth and easy over the internet, while in the previous year's seeking for a
job required several visits to the offices and companies and interviews, these days all what is required is
you detailed resume emailed to the company's analysis division which assures you of any possibilities for
getting the job instead of waiting and getting rejected in the end. Internet is useful in online shopping,
so that we can save our time by not going outside and find that particular thing. For, the entrepreneur
this is the biggest platform to connect with people.

The internet brings an innovative impression on trade and commerce and is widely used by businesses
worldwide. It offers an instantaneous and direct communication by the use of e-mail, instant messaging,
video call and the World Wide Web pages. It remains to develop, compelled by countless quantities of
online informative data and knowledge in business, amusement and social networking. It is an awesome
device commonly used by students on their homework, assignments and projects. It is also an excellent
source of information for research paper and studies. The internet has made searching for informative
data much faster and easier to be done. Yet, another harmful effects that anyone may face while
browsing the net is the chance to grasp unreliable info and data from unaccredited sources. As websites
rapidly springs out in the net, so is the amount of time consumed every time we start using it. The
internet has become an office that stocks an enormous time investment and occasionally its one source
of an incredible waste of time. Due to the accessibility of info available on the web, anyone can access
any files without any restriction and guidelines to what it is. Businesses, for example, often times use
online cloud storage that is securely protected and can be remotely accessed with appropriate security
measures. Users can easily browse pornographic images and videos in which can affect someone's
behaviour and can deteriorate morale of the society in the long run.

Any piece of information regarding anything, everything in our daily lives, may it be a cosmetic
technique for the ladies or the men health problems, the cooking recipes for trying the new dishes or
the home decoration tips, the information on the latest appliance or product you are going to buy or the
search for the new house, it is all there ready for you on the internet.

Evidently, users of internet are exceedingly growing and continue to rise as changes occur every now
and then. The most interesting aspect of the internet influencing our daily lives is the factor of
entertainment. Entertainment no longer demands your money or expense, today you can just log on the
internet in your free time and get involved talking to people of similar interests, or watch movies or play
games, it's all there in the internet. Despite the fact that the internet claim for its countless benefits, it is
undeniable that it also possess adverse danger to its users.

Because of the so many opportunities on the internet it is also said to have become an addiction for
some people, which makes them more lazy and inconsistent in much more important works in life.

At last, I just want to conclude that everything have two aspects, in what way we utilize our source is
important. Internet is very useful asset; we should use it in positive way so that it will be useful in our
enhancing the quality of our lives.
What was a mystery 20 years ago is now available at click of a button. The quest for knowledge is today
replaced by ‘www...’ the world has become increasingly connected all because of the power of internet.
The penetration of internet and cyberspace into human lives is a new phenomenon for the human
civilization. It is argued by cyber experts that this change is going to be a big one and has tremendous
potential to impact the human lives in the long run. Moreover we are in the first hour of the change and
a lot is about to come.
It has transformed the world into a global village. The internet has fastened the pace of globalization
and enhanced the pace of cultural, economic and ideological exchanges. This has made it possible for
the human to venture into the unknown and moreover the commons have the chance to find the
discoveries at a click of a button. For example the latest images sent by the Hubble telescope is readily
available and people can find the entire cosmos on their phone screens. This technology is gradually
doing away with the geographical vastness and remoteness. Even the far off regions can be located into
the GPS and traced much more easily than before. The e-commerce platforms like Flipkart and Amazon
are not less than a revolution in the way the marketing is done. The latest products are available at best
of prices and moreover in an easy way. The social media is emerging as a major platform for sharing of
information. The twitter has become a hotspot for diplomatic promulgations, carrying out ideological
warfare, making key public declarations and importantly of easy citizen and government engagement.
The conversation between the US and the Indian government during Obama’s visit to India was done
initially through twitter. Recently an orphan girl was rescued safely from the human traffickers with the
help of the tweet to the railway ministry. The cultural taboos are breaking and the world is learning to
evolve. The digital empowerment is paving the way for intellectual, social and economic upheaval of the
people. The common can learn the best of practices and the legal provisions prevailing in the other side
of the nation at a click of a button.
The internet can also be an evil if it is misused. The interpersonal interactions are in no way an
alternative to the digital interactions. The digitalization is leading the people into losing the personal
touch and sensitization to the human emotions. Moreover the internet has cut across the socialization
line penetrating it at various levels. A small child today has access to the pool of information which may
not be very wisely used by him/ her. The child takes everything as granted and tends to ignore the
human realities which are learnt through the socialization process. The social media platform on the evil
side becomes a place for agitations and quarrels. The facebook has radical pages which corrupt the
minds and activities of the common people. The facts are presented to them in a distorted form which
tends to pollute their minds. The privacy and security of the people is at stake and is misused easily by
anti-social elements. Often cases of suicide and molestations, black mailing are evil sides of misuse of
internet. The digital access with lack of digital awareness leads to proneness to digital thefts and piracy
and misuse of personal and private data which is unknowingly shared by the end user. Recently it was
found that the e-wallets like Airtel Money, M-Pesa etc get access to the critical information with our due
permission (unknowingly shared). Services like GPS get access to our private movements and pose a
threat to individual and national security.
The Indian government has been consistently working in this direction as it has best chance of utilizing
its demographic dividend as an asset if done the right way. The Digital India programme envisions
transforming India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The following pillars
form part of it- the DigiLocker, Attendance.gov.in, MyGov.in, SBA mobile App, E-hospital and many
others. The Smart City Mission aimed at transforming the selected cities has ICT as its backbone. The
government aims to make the Indian economy cashless by the year 2025 and concerted efforts are
being taken in this direction. The launch of the ‘BHIM app’ is a UPI platform developed by NCPI for
secure and easy digital transactions. Efforts are being made to connect it to the biometric authentication
systems based on Aadhaar. Moreover the Indian government is working for developing the NAVIC (an
Indian version of the GPS) through the launch of a 7 satellite system –IRNSS. This will help us trace the
far off regions with ease and security. The 7 satellites have already been put in place they just need to
be operationalized.
It is argued that the 4th phase of industrial revolution is about to emerge and it would be centered on
the fusion of technologies straddling the physical, digital and biological worlds. The cyberspace will be
the power giver. This is the beginning of the new way we interact and communicate. Also, APJ Abdul
Kalam has expressed his thoughts in the ‘Ignited minds’ that the present century is the century of
knowledge economy and India has the best chance of emerging as a giant.
Conclusion:
Whether internet is a bane or a boon depends upon the way it is used. The researches in respect of AI
(Artificial intelligence) have proved neither the humans wins nor the machine it is the combination of
the two which can have the real victory chances. The same is true of its utility to the human it can serve
the best interests if it humans learn to work in coordination with the machines. The internet and
cyberspace can serve greatly if done for the benefit of humanity but can cause harm if it is allowed to
get the control of human lives. The greatest technology if even the world’s fastest supercomputer
Sunway Taihulight is a smaller version of advancement when compared to the human mind. We need to
keep it in mind at every stage of progress in this direction.
“Technology is a good servant but a bad master”
CYBERSPACE AND INTERNET: BLESSING OR CURSE TO THE HUMAN CIVILISATION IN THE LONG RUN
Recently we had a famous development in the field of technology with the advent of Pokemon Go, a
technology called Augmented reality. And a article presented in newspaper had some experiences of
people playing Pokemon Go. Some said they are getting fit by running for searching Pokemon, even
some claimed they could know that some significant historical and environmental sites exist in their
neighbourhood by playing Pokemon go and others claimed that they have created many new friends
while playing the game. Despite some claimed problems associated with it like road accidents it caused,
blue eye disease, game addiction etc. So with all these events it remained a hot news throughout that
month.
As we can see in the given paragraph how cyberspace and internet has changed our way of life. People
are showing merits and demerits of it. But from analysis the para we find that even people depend on
the internet on regular things they would required to do like running, knowing about the historical sites
in the neighbourhood and making friends.
That is the level of our dependence on the internet. Got a unusual term search the google, got the name
of friend search the facebook, we just are linked every event of our life and privacy to the internet which
may be very bad as “every other knowledge ( philosophy, politics, legislation etc) develops very late as
compared to our knowledge in the field of IT and other technology which had caused many devastation”
for example : developing knowledge of atom bomb before legislation or ethical standard led to the
destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Developing tool before other knowledge led tothe problems of
industrial revolution.
Internet is the network of computers in simple terms i.e. many computers are connected through the
internet using the cyberspace through which each computer can share and receive information in any
format written, picture, audio or video.
Space technology was developed through satellites which was used for radio and TV communication.
Further developments it is used as cyberspace and for cellular communication.
Internet is a blessing as we all feel in our day to day activity. If we are having a small smart phone you
can access anything in the world right from paying our bill, communicating with our friends to even
booking for a auction etc.
Some of the benefits of the internet are given as follows:-
1. ECONOMICAL:- The recent move of demonitisation would otherwise must ahve caused devastation in
case of absence of Paytm which managed to save some people from queuing in the banks. Its true a lot
no of economic transaction takes place through the use of internet and it provides multiple benefit as
pointed by our Prime Minister i.e. prevention of corruption, drug trafficking, counterfeit and terror
funding and it is also convenient for the people from security point of view as faced during the cash
transaction.
2. ADMINISTRATIVE:- The introduction of e-govt can prevent many problems like red-tapism, delay,
corruption, harassing of people etc. In e-govt the internet become the window between the people and
government. It is useful for people to get certificates, bill etc and recent emphasis on digital india is a
right step in this direction.
3. SOCIOLOGICAL:- We are dependent on internet for finding our old friends and relatives whom we
have not met for generation due to distance and time factor. They could be easily reached through
networks like facebook and skype helping sustain our old relations.
4. VIEWS/COUNTER VIEWS ON ISSUES TURNING INTO A GLOBAL VILLAGE:- We are getting involved in
the issues of the world through the internet and understanding its implication on us which is making us
aware. For example;- the election in US for the first time created a impact on a large number of people,
everybody in the world thought as they were involved in it, recent humanitarian issues in the middle
east.
5. EDUCATION:- The internet is helping many to get education by providing them the required
information. The education is now not the reach of the elite classes but every people could have it on
one click. Gone are those days when people searched through books in the library for getting an
information it is just one click away.
6. ENVIRONMENTAL:- The environmental issues, climate change, global warming etc are getting much
debate on the internet which influences the people, government, and the international organisation for
taking steps in this regard which was neglected once. Recent initiative by WWF to track tiger world wide
for their care is a great initiatives.
7. HEALTH ISSUES:- The people are getting aware about the food related issues which they previously
neglected, i.e. junk food related disease. The importance of yoga is preached worldwide through this
and people are getting conscious of signs of major diseases like cancer, swine flu etc.
8. As we know if we create a knife for our protection i.e. for good purpose, it may be used by a terrorist
to kill people i.e. for bad purpose. So every infrastructure and device has bi=oth good and bad features.
Some of the demerits of the internet and cyberspace are:-
9. EXCESSIVE DEPENDENCY:- We are getting excessively dependent on the internet and it hae caused
may psychological and other disorders. Some of the issues are:- losing memory ( we are forgetting the
things we ought to remember , even our friends phone no. As shown in Chennai express, psychological
disorder like cyberrelation addition , pornographic addition, gaming addition, communication , disorder
addition etc.
10. health issues:-It is causing health issues like obesity, heart diseses, myopia etc. All these are caused
due to excessive time spending on the internet. We are sometimes having information about medicines
from some health application by which we do not go for a consultation may create health havoc.
11. HACKING/ PHISHING:- Now with the increased use use of cyberspace has led to increase crime inthe
cyberspace which include: cyber theft, hacking, phishing etc. Recent example of cloning ATMs and
withdrawing money.
12. `LACK OF CYBER LITERACY IN INDIA:- As rich and middle class people have the reach of internet but
the poor not and the internet penetration inequality in various areas are creating internet divide and as
everything is getting dependent on internet it is creating a inequality wrt knowledge, information etc.
13. MASS MOPBILISATION OF ISIS AND OTHER FUNDAMENTALIST ORGANISATION :- They are using
internet for the mass mobilisation to increase the terrorist activities. Also they are using the technology
for smuggling of weapons, tracking terrorist activities, getting the details of the sensitive places.
So the government and the people should make effort to redress those defeceincies to prevent the
disorders.
Some of the steps that could be taken are:-
1. Promoting internet literacy among the poor and illiterate people. Recent steps in demonitisation to
take steps to make people finically literate is a good move.
2. The people should promote social culture in physical instead of online through recreation clubs, and
cultural events.
3. The guardian should prevent the children from accessing the pornographic and other adult content.
The govt should also take steps to prevent the children from watching them. Recent move on banning
child pornography is a right step in this regard.
4. The govt and intelligence agencies should track the crime events such as mass mobilisation of people,
black marketing, smuggling etc. Recently the delhi police caught online casino and there should be other
such events.
5. The govt internet wing i.e. CERT-In should increase its intelligence and infrastructure to check the
vulnerability of the internet and cyberspace. It should work in the direction of preventing hackings,
phisings, cyber theft, etc. The govt should also protect the privacy of the people and protect the various
personal details of people taken during the registration of passport, aadhar etc.
6. The online application providing professional services like engineering consultancy, financial
consultancy, medical consultancy etc shall be properly regulated by the govt.
So the knife should be used for the requisite purpose and not to harm anyone. So the requisite
prevention might be taken. Similarly the internet and cyberspace should be used to our advantage and
not the other way. So our knowledge, legislation, execution and infrastructure should be built to weed
out the disadvantages. So we can use the internet for developing our country in every field using e-
governance, e-payment, e-learning and other internet advantages.

Ma Hun and his family has organized a small get-together with their friends on a chilly winter evening in
China during the year 1996. Ma Hun was a School Teacher who wanted to show that the Dial-up
connection that he has recently purchased is though slow, opens the websites and can/should be
considered faster than the Post card letters. The get-together was an opportunity for him to allay the
worries of his wife who wasn’t in favour of spending a part of their family’s meagre earning on some
unknown thing like Internet.

Ma Hun’s wife was talking to her friend beside a barbeque in the park outside their home. Waiting to
hear from her brother that Grilled Chicken is ready she instead heard her husband’s emphatic
shouting—It’s working, Its working, The internet is working.

Surprised by Ma Hun’s excitement and happy that she has been proved wrong on questioning his
‘investment’, she went inside the house to find that the website did really open. Then on, she supported
her husband whole heartedly and Ma Hun went on to establish Alibaba which within the period of next
two decades from this incident went on to become the World’s largest e-Commerce website and with its
recent record making IPO in the New York Exchange is known to almost everyone who uses the internet.
Internet changed the fortunes of Ma Hun’s family and proved to be a blessing in the Long Run. Ma Hun
today is famously known as Jack Ma.

INTERNET: A GREAT CHANGE

The start of the 1990s has witnessed the creation of websites by the companies, firms and the govts. for
disseminating the information to their people. The less time consuming feature of the internet has
resulted in the development of e-Mails which could be sent by anyone to any other person on the Globe
if the two have an internet connected and this facility not just reduced the communication time but also
expedited the functioning of the businesses. The developments in this area have gone on to develop
Social Media websites like Facebook and Twitter and Whatsapp and the communication has not
remained confined to any group of people like before, making Telegram obsolete and the world a highly
connected place.

The increased dissemination of information had led to the development of Youtube + Wikipedia and
other such sites. Today, we can have the information on any machine, movie, celebrity, process among
others and can learn to dance, prepare new dishes, learning the art of singing among others.

The internet has empowered the individuals on not just learning but also made their voices heard by
those who should have heard. Recent cases of a BSF constable complaining the quality of food being
provided to them, a Christian Priest asking for his rescue from Yemen to the Indian Ministry of External
Affairs and the solutions provided to consumers in Indian Railways like Doctors doing the Delivery of a
woman are examples of not just the increasing reach of ordinary people to the govts. but also of the
government’s reaching to the common people and citizenry.

The Internet went on to develop the Security of Information and the computers, the developments can
be seen in the Banking Websites. There are today more access ability of the secure Banking services in
the real time than ever. People can deposit and withdraw their money through ATMs, can use
Netbanking for their account information and can go on to purchase any product with the help of the
Internet. New technologies are developing in this field like Mobile Wallets, New apps to transfer the
money like UPI and BHIM etc. The developments have made the governments of India and Venezuela to
go for demonetization for cashless societies, eliminating Black Money and usher an era of more
transparency.

The people of the world today are more connected than ever. The two way flow of information have
heralded a rights-based approach in the hitherto conservative societies. The institutions of Caste,
Patriarchy and rigid authorities are changing and the ethos of humanity and equality are increasingly
being seen in the world. We can see Dalit and Brahman having commensalities, the women in
Afghanistan becoming fighter place pilots and those in Saudi Arabia dancing without their complete
veils. There are women travelling and preparing food and earning by posting them on Instagram and
Youtube respectively. Earning gives them an increased saying in decision making.

INTERNET: NOT ABSOLUTELY GREAT

Despite the above mentioned benefits of the Internet, it cannot said to be a complete blessing and there
have been some drawbacks which have made us to become sceptical of it. These include Espionage
Cyber Crimes, Attacks and Wars.

Espionage is a long term problem that we are dealing in the world of internet with. Though it has at
times benefited the world as seen in the case of revelations made by Edward Snowden about the US
govt.’s spying, barring such acts of whistle-blowing it has been doing/causing harm to people, firms and
the governments of the world. There are cases like the recent Presidential Elections of the US where the
Russian hackers have tried tilting the very outcome of the Elections.

Cyber Crimes is another problem that Internet is associated with. It can especially be seen against
women. Impersonating Ids of women, photoshopped pictures, rape videos are often found on the
internet. Porn videos-both legal and illegal are responsible for increasing the cases of low libido level
and impotency in men. Fake Twitter accounts of new Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi is a recent example
of Cyber Crimes.

The Attacks on the Internet are yet another drawback of Internet. The arrack on computer through
Worms, Malwares and Spywares are developing into programmes like Stuxnet and Sandworm which
have hit the Iranian Nuclear Facility and Ukraine’s Power Sector respectively. Countries are continuously
working on upgrading these to a War level where the entire communication system of a country can be
damaged. Another attempt of a War waging is being explored by the Terrorist organizations like the ISIS
which radicalizes the youth for carrying out Lonewolf and other such attacks.

CONCLUSION

There is no denying of Internet having some problems associated with it. But these problems far
outweigh the overall contributions of Internet in making our world better. The blessing of Internet has
served the Human Civilization enormously during the last two and a half decades and extrapolating it to
another 100 years, we see a brighter and better world. The problems associated with the Internet can
be overcome in the near future. A progress on tackling hacking has been started by Russia which has
moved to the principles of quantum physics from the mathematical coding of the Internet.

More such progresses can be made in the near future, ushering an era for more equal opportunities for
all, giving the world more successful people like Ma Hun/Jack Ma and making it a better place for all of
us.
The social contract theory propounded by John Locke indicates how human existence in the state of
nature is that of egoistic, brutish and isolationist and to come out of it how an individual aims at
socialisation leading to creation of innovative social structures and institutions.
The human quest for increased well being and standard of living has always driven humans towards
innovation and dynamism. Internet also referred to as the 4th estate of the 21st century is inherently a
product of human consciousness . Internet refers to a broad generalised term comprised of network of
networks whereas cyberspace forms a subset of Internet. In the contemporary industrial society
Internet has crippled into all domains of human life and affected it in a very big way. Besides
constituting the whole world into a Global village the Internet offers a plethora of functions which can
be enumerated a s follows
Social :
Internet has enabled cross cultural contact among people located over vast geographical area leading to
psychic gratification and control of emotional stress
Governance :
Internet has decreased the gap between political representatives and common people. people are able
to get their grievances redressed by just voicing them through twitter handles . It has also made the
Bureaucracy more efficient and responsive
Agriculture:
Internet has enabled agricultural researchers to predict the effects of climate change on agriculture
besides dissemination of agricultural knowledge. It has provided farmers with marketing channels and
price discovery mechanisms leading to elimination of middlemen
Education:
Internet has broken the geographical barrier in education. Teachers and students no longer need to
converge physically. Tele education has made it possible to stream live classes over a vast geographical
breadth with enhanced quality and effectiveness
The online databases act as a major source of knowledge for students
Economic:
Internet has helped in achieving convergence between businesses and customers through B2B and B2C
platforms. The banking sector has increasingly benefited through the launch of online customer service
platforms such as e banking and ATM based services
The Govt has already done away with paper work for record maintenance and there has been increased
digitisation of works
Disaster Management;
The geo stationery satellites which are connected to receiving stations through internet help in
predicting the actual occurence of disasters thereby generating appropriate relief measures.
Despite the numerous benefits offered by cyberspace the fact remains that its still very loosely
regulated .
There have been increased concerns raised allover the world regarding the vulnerability of individuals in
cyberspace. Pishing attacks have become very common and ill informed users have been regularly falling
prey to such attacks.
The incidence of spoofing has reached an apex level. Even the recent US elections were not immune to
spoofing attacks by Russian hackers. A doubt arises that when such secure and full-proof democracy is
vulnerable to cyber attacks how can unaware users protect themselves
The information overload in the recent times has created confusion and suspicion in the minds of
individuals
The cyberspace and its use as such is not restricted. The jihadist groups have been using it to spread
their radical ideas and propaganda
The phenomenon of fake news is a recent entry on cyberspace . Fake news per se is not lethal until and
unless users have the capacity and ability to differentiate it from the authentic news but at times the
line between fake and real is so blurred that even well informed individuals fall prey to it. The recent
provocation of Pakistan Defence Minister to Israel over a fake news is a case worth notice
To make the cyber space relevant in the long run there is an urgent need to update cyber security
infrastructure and increase the awareness and knowledge of general public
