Topic:- "Introduction to Bloomberg"
The seminar on “Introduction to Bloomberg” was conducted for the Finance specialization
students, both first year as well as second year batches. Mr. Nitin Parmeshwar, a Senior Research
Analyst from Bloomberg, was the moderator for the day.

Brief Introduction about the guest: - Mr. Nitin Parmeshwar has a Master’s degree in
Economics from Jamia Millia Islamia University and a diploma in Finance from London’s School
of Economics and Political Science. He started his career in India Infrastructure Publishing as a
Research Analyst and later worked as a Senior business analyst in Evalueserve before moving to
Bloomberg as a Senior Research Analyst. He has 7 years of experience in the fields of equities,
derivatives and Technical Analysis and focuses on Futures and Equity Derivatives.

In this seminar, Mr. Nitin shared his experiences in the domain and explained the importance
of using technological tools like Bloomberg to facilitate a better financial analysis of a firm or an
industry. The seminar was conducted in two sessions as follows

Session 1: Seminar on “Tickers” and Advanced Technical Analysis concepts for seniors in the
morning

Session 2: Seminar on the basic functionality of Bloomberg and its applications for juniors in
the afternoon

The following are some of the key highlights of this seminar: -

Session 1: For the seniors (11:10AM to 12:40PM)

 Usage of standard and customized workflows related to Sell-side and Buy-side


analysts in equity markets
 Applications of various tickers and inlay of news events in the technical analysis
 Analysing various charts and tools that facilitate better technical analysis like GP
function and futures tables
 Revenue breakdown, export-import details of a listed entity in the market on
Bloomberg

Session 2: For the juniors (3:00PM to 4:40PM)

 The vision, mission and history of Bloomberg


 The navigation through the screens displayed on the terminal
 Accessing the “World business news” and macro-economic indices and factors
 Accessing the financials of the firms listed on any of the stock-exchanges across the
world
 Analysing the reports published by Bloomberg on Industry and Sector Analysis
 Usage of various functions to read/analyse the user-required data

A 10 minute interactive question-answer round was conducted after the lecture. It was an
amazing learning experience to interact with industry experts like Mr. Nitin who provided various
insights into the industry trends and corporate environment apart from explaining the functioning of
Bloomberg.
