1- Determine the pressure difference between A and B.

s.g of Benzene = 0.88

s.g of Kerosene = 0.88
s.g of Mercury = 13.6
density of air = 1.208 kg/m3

2- Fluid of density flows at a constant rate through a pipeline. The pressure at point A in
the pipeline is measured using the manometer showed in the figure, which is open to the
atmosphere (at a pressure of 101 kPa) and contains two liquids of densities ρw and ρm
(ρm > ρw).
Find the absolute pressure at the point for the case when h1 = 125 mm, h2 = 410 mm, h3
= 260 mm, ρw = 1000 kg/m3, ρm = 13.6*ρw and ρ = 0.00125*ρw
3- At room temperature (20C) pure water has density 998.2 kg/m3. If 20kg of salt (NaCl) is
completely dissolved in a 0.30 m3 volume of this pure water, use the equation of state
ρw (S) = ρ0[1+B(S- S0)]
to calculate the corresponding density, specific weight and specific gravity of the salt
water produced (take the salinity contraction coefficient to be 0.552).

7- A new system of units is defined using the kilometer (km), kilogram (kg) and hour
(hr). determine the corresponding scaling factors M, L and T, and hence convert
to the new unit system the following measurements.

8- Convert the following measurements to SI units.

a- 130 cm s-2 (acceleration) b- 4.2 ft s-1 (velocity) c- 2.7 * 106 g
cm2 s-2 (moment) d- 55 slug ft-1 s-2 (stress)
9- The quantity of Q has dimensions [Q] = L2 T-1. Find constants a and b such that
a- [Q] = [u]a [A]b b- [Q] = [h]a [g]b c- [Q] = [u/h2]a [g]b
10- For the next equation, x = x(t) is displacement, m is mass, t is time and b an k are
constants. Find the dimensions of b and k in terms of LMT system.

𝑑2𝑥 𝑑𝑥
𝑚 + 𝑚𝑏 + 𝑘𝑥 = 0
𝑑𝑡2 𝑑𝑡

11- Mercury is contained in a cylindrical piston. When uncompressed, the Mercury

column inside the piston chamber is of height 250 mm. A large pressure 57.0
MPa applied by the piston head reduces the column height by 0.5 mm. hence,
estimate the bulk modulus of Mercury.
