Epoetin alfa is used to treat anemia (a lower than normal number of red blood
cells) in people with chronic kidney failure (condition in which the kidneys
slowly and permanently stop working over a period of time)
Tegretol (Carbamazepine)
Carbamazepine is used alone or in combination with other medications to control
certain types of seizures. It is also used to treat trigeminal neuralgia (a
condition that causes facial nerve pain)
Fosamax (Alendronate)
Alendronate is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis (a condition in which the
bones become thin and weak and break easily) in women who have undergone
menopause ('change of life,' end of menstrual periods) and to treat osteoporosi
s in men.
Cisplatin, cisplatinum,
Platinum-based chemotherapy drug used to treat various types of cancers, includi
ng sarcomas, some carcinomas (e.g. small cell lung cancer, and ovarian cancer),
lymphomas, and germ cell tumors. It was the first member of a class of anti-canc
er drugs which now also includes carboplatin and oxaliplatin. These platinum com
plexes react in vivo, binding to and causing crosslinking of DNA which ultimatel
y triggers apoptosis (programmed cell death).
Cyclosporine and cyclosporine
Used with other medications toprevent transplant rejection (attack of the transp
lanted organ by the immune
system of the person who received the organ) in people who have received
kidney, liver, and heart transplants.
Topiramate (Brand names: Topamax, Topiragen)
Topiramate is used alone or with other medications to treat certain types of
seizures in people who have epilepsy. Topiramate is also used with other
medications to control seizures in people who have Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a
disorder that causes seizures and developmental delays).
