 I. Introduction

People face limits in their own ability in mathematics equations and problem

solving. In addition to their difficulty in solving math problems, some people may

experience thinking difficulties in the materials and tools they use (Keche, 2013, p51).

This research indicates that using computer technology will help the learners develop

high order skills in critical thinking and analysis (Nayak et al, p2). Mathematics, to most,

is a difficult subject. They consider the subject as the boring one and create lack of

interest in the topics being discussed. So teachers and educators should ensure that

students are well equipped to navigate a complex world.

Mathematics is regarded as the queen of all Sciences . The CEO of International

Society for Technology in Education, Don Knezek, compares education without

technology to medical profession without technology. He said, “If in 1970 you had knee

surgery, you got a huge scar. Now, if you have knee surgery you have two little dots.”

Before, we are spending too much effort in solving mathematics equations without the

use of calculators or technologies. But now, we can easily solve the equation without

investing so much time because technologies do the work for us.

In this paper the importance of using technology in mathematics is considered.

The focus of this paper is on technology, on how mathematics can be easily understand

and help the students of Barangka National High School.

 II. Problem/Issues

Most of the mathematics teachers of the Barangka National High School find their

students having difficulties in mathematics subject due to numbers, equations and

analysis. Therefore, it is a challenge for the teachers on how they will use modern

technology to increase their competencies and efficiencies as educators to make the

mathematics lives of students better. If they use modern technology in teaching, it will be

helpful for them in such way that they can explain the topic in the easiest and fun way.

Also, they can get more ideas and knowledge in using technology.

However, some students of the said school despite difficulties of the mathematics

subject find their way to comprehend and understand better the mathematics problems

and equations given to them. In terms of technology we find it very important because it

enhance and give high interest to the student particularly solving mathematics problem.

Technology can be helpful for them to the extent it focuses student thinking in important

mathematics and reduce their effort for tedious computations.

We researchers wants to know the following: a) what prefer the most of the

students in Barangka National High School, using technology or without technology?

Why? b) How does technology affect their study in mathematics? c) Do you think

technology can help you solve mathematics equation easily and give you more ideas?

Why do you think so?
