Lake Monticello’s Fall Craft Fair


Saturday, November 13, from 9AM to 3PM on both levels of the Clubhouse
A great opportunity to find unique holiday gifts or to pick up something special for yourself. Artists and crafters from Lake
Monticello and beyond will be selling a variety of handmade items. LMOA logo items also available, including wine
glasses, beer tumblers, shirts, hats, etc. Don’t miss this special event. All welcome!

Public Hearing on LMOA/Fluvanna County Land Swap: The LMOA Board of Directors will hold a public hearing on
Thurs., Nov. 18, shortly after the November open session meeting begins at 7PM in the Terrace Room. (See below.) The purpose of
the hearing is to brief property owners on the proposed swap of undeveloped properties owned by LMOA and Fluvanna County and to
answer questions and receive input from those in attendance. Considering the information received, the Board plans to take action at
the completion of the hearing. The Fluvanna Board of Supervisors also will hold a public hearing on the proposal on Dec. 15. With an
affirmative outcome of both votes, the parties will proceed through the legal process of making the transfer. For more information on

The November Board of Directors Meeting will be held on Thurs., Nov. 18, one week earlier than usual due to the
Thanksgiving holiday. The meeting will be called to order at 6PM and go immediately into executive session to discuss legal, contract
and personnel matters. The meeting will reconvene in open session in the Terrace Room at 7PM. There will be three opportunities for
member comments – see below. Members may sign up for comments in advance of the meeting at the Administration Office, in the
Terrace Room before the call to order on the evening of the meeting, or by contacting Meg Gore at 589-8263, ext. 110, or
mgore@lmoa.org. The meeting will be broadcast live on cable channel 10. See “Channel 10 Presents” for the replay schedule.

BYLAW AND POLICY CHANGES - First Reading -- none

9-Hole Turkey Shoot Golf Tournament will be held Sun., Nov. 21, with a 12N shotgun start. Entry fee is
$5 per person, plus regular fees. Sign up at the Pro Shop.
SCC Decision on AquaVA Rate Case: The State Corporation Commission (SCC) issued an Order on Oct. 29 approving
the rate increases recommended by its Hearing Officer on Sept. 7 for a 41% increase for sewer and 18% for water. The Order includes
refund procedures for the difference between the interim rates that went into effect on Dec. 31, 2009, and the approved rates. The
refunds, in the form of check or credit to bills, must be completed by Jan. 13, 2011. The order in its entirety may be seen at the SCC
website at http://docket.scc.virginia.gov/vaprod/main.asp. Click on “Search Cases” and enter the case # PUE 2009-00059.

Budget Meetings: The next budget work session will be Tues., Nov. 16, at 6PM in the Faulconer Room, when the Finance
Committee, Board and staff will continue discussion on operations and introduce new initiative requests. A Board of Directors budget
work session will be held on Sat., Nov. 20, at 9AM in the Faulconer Room. Time will be allotted for member comments during all
budget meetings.

Deadline for Thanksgiving Friday Flyer: The Thanksgiving week Friday Flyer will be published on Wed., Nov. 24. Deadline for
that issue is 12N on Mon., Nov. 22.

Superintendent Opens Three Greens: Golf Course Superintendent Dick Bushey has announced that the practice putting
green and the greens on holes #3 and #10 have reopened for play. All other greens will remain temporary until the grass plants and
roots are ready for foot traffic and ball marks. Dick expects they will reopen in March.

LMOA Thanksgiving Schedule: The Administration and ECC Offices will be closed on Thurs. and Fri., Nov. 25 and 26. The
Pro Shop, Eagles Nest and Marina will be closed on Thursday only.

ECC Schedule Changes during November: You must have ECC approval for most changes to the exterior of your
home. If you are planning projects during the holidays, check with the ECC about holiday application deadlines and ECC meeting dates
-- call 591-0196.

Start the Holidays with Holiday Home Tour: Sat., Dec. 4, from 12:30 to 5PM. Get into the holiday spirit and support the
LM Beautification Corps’ efforts to beatify our community. Five beautifully decorated homes await you. Advance tickets just $10. Call

Visit with Santa: Kids, plan now to visit with Santa at the Lake Monticello Firehouse Maple Room, Sun., Dec. 5, from 1 to 4PM. Movies,
crafts and snacks too. $5/family. Other donations welcome.

LMOA Will Not Have Kids’ Holiday Party this year. Instead, it will be supporting the Fire Department’s Visit with Santa. See
above.

Do Not Place CFLs in Trash: Contrary to earlier information, CFLs (compact florescent lights) should not be
thrown into household trash. They are considered hazardous materials because of the chemicals they contain. Van der
Linde Recycling accepts CFLs for disposal for a fee. LMOA is compiling a list of disposal options, which will be published in
coming issues of the Friday Flyer and other LMOA communications.

These Committees Have Acute Need for Candidates: Candidates must fill out a Committee Resource Form and return it to the
Administration Office as soon as possible Forms are available at the Office or online at www.lmoa.org, Library, Forms & Applications,
Miscellaneous Forms.
Finance Committee: This advisory committee is in its busiest season, working on the 2011 budget with the Board and Staff. It’s a great time
for a candidate to come out and see the work in progress. For more information, contact the chair.
Environmental Control: This busy operating committee meets weekly on Tuesdays at 8AM to review applications and inspect new homes,
additions, fences, driveways and other changes to the exterior of existing homes and to inspect problem areas around the community. Contact
