“COMPASSIONATE COMMUNICATION: Connecting from the Heart” L11 The Rev. Randy Smit will
help class participants to: find ways to express themselves, discover practical ways to strengthen relationships,
and transform anger and conflict. It is possible to bring more harmony to the home, effectiveness at work, and
peace in the world. . Randy Smit is an ordained RCA Pastor, has worked with congregations for the past 10
years, and is a former Professor of Philosophy. He is the founder of Compassionate Connection: A
Formational Ministry of Peace, Healing and Creativity. If interested, class size is limited so please check in
Room 11 for attendance availability.

“HUMAN TRAFFICKING: What’s a Christian to do?” Rm. L6 Diane Schrotenboer will share the facts
behind childhood trafficking and what it means to be a Christian advocate against this often overlooked crime.
Diane is a member of First Church who recently completed a paper and class project on this topic for Western
Theological Seminary.

.‫יְהוָה ָבּ ָט ְחתִּי‬-‫ אֶל‬,‫ ָשׁוְא; וַ ֲאנִי‬-‫ הַשֹּׁ ְמרִים ַה ְבלֵי‬,‫ ז ָשׂנֵאתִי‬7 I hate them that regard lying vanities; but I trust in the LORD.

:‫ ְבּ ַח ְס ֶדּ ָך‬,‫ֶשׂ ְמחָה‬
ְ ‫ ח אָגִילָה וְא‬8 I will be glad and rejoice in Thy lovingkindness; for Thou hast seen
.‫ְשׁי‬
ִ ‫ ְבּצָרוֹת נַפ‬,‫ ָענְיִי; יַָד ְע ָתּ‬-‫ אֶת‬,‫ֲשׁר ָראִי ָת‬
ֶ ‫ א‬mine affliction, Thou hast taken cognizance of the troubles of my soul,
.‫ֶה ֱע ַמ ְד ָתּ ַב ֶמּ ְרחָב ַרְגלָי‬ ;‫אוֹיֵב‬-‫ ְבּיַד‬,‫ ט וְלֹא ִה ְסַגּ ְר ַתּנִי‬9 And Thou hast not given me over into the hand of the enemy; Thou
8 hast set my feet in a broad place.
:‫לִי‬-‫ כִּי צַר‬,‫ י ָחנֵּנִי יְהוָה‬10 Be gracious unto me, O LORD, for I am in distress; mine eye
.‫ְשׁי וּ ִב ְטנִי‬
ִ ‫ָשׁ ָשׁה ְב ַכעַס עֵינִי; נַפ‬
ְ ‫ ע‬wasteth away with vexation, yea, my soul and my body.

:‫וּשׁנוֹתַי ַבּ ֲאנָחָה‬
ְ --‫ ַחיַּי‬,‫ יא כִּי כָלוּ ְביָגוֹן‬11 For my life is spent in sorrow, and my years in sighing; my
.‫ָשׁשׁוּ‬ ַ ‫ כּ‬strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are wasted
ֵ ‫ָשׁל ַבּעֲוֹנִי כֹחִי; וַ ֲע ָצמַי ע‬
away.
:‫וּ ַפחַד ִל ְמיָֻדּעָי‬ --‫ִשׁ ֵכנַי מְאֹד‬
ְ ‫ וְל‬,‫צֹ ְררַי ָהיִיתִי ֶח ְרפָּה‬-‫ יב ִמכָּל‬12 Because of all mine adversaries I am become a reproach, yea, unto
.‫ נָדְדוּ ִמ ֶמּנִּי‬--‫ רֹאַי בַּחוּץ‬my neighbours exceedingly, and a dread to mine acquaintance; they
that see me without flee from me.
.‫ ִכּ ְכלִי אֹבֵד‬,‫ָהיִיתִי‬ ְ ‫ יג נ‬13 I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind; I am like a useless ves-
;‫ ְכּמֵת ִמלֵּב‬,‫ִשׁ ַכּ ְחתִּי‬
sel.
:‫ מָגוֹר ִמ ָסּבִיב‬--‫ ִדּבַּת ַרבִּים‬,‫ יד כִּי ָשׁ ַמ ְעתִּי‬14 For I have heard the whispering of many, terror on every side;
ִ ‫ ְבּ ִהוָּ ְסדָם יַחַד ָעלַי; ָל ַקחַת נַפ‬while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take
.‫ְשׁי זָמָמוּ‬
away my life.

.‫ אֱלֹהַי אָתָּה‬,‫אָ ַמ ְרתִּי‬ ;‫ ָעלֶי ָך ָב ַט ְחתִּי יְהוָה‬,‫ טו וַ ֲאנִי‬15 But as for me, I have trusted in Thee, O LORD; I have said: 'Thou
art my God.'
.‫ וּמֵרֹ ְדפָי‬,‫אוֹיְבַי‬-‫ַהצִּי ֵלנִי ִמיַּד‬ ;‫ טז ְבּיְָד ָך עִתֹּתָי‬16 My times are in Thy hand; deliver me from the hand of mine ene-
mies, and from them that persecute me.

.‫הוֹשׁי ֵענִי ְב ַח ְס ֶדּ ָך‬
ִ ;‫ ַע ְב ֶדּ ָך‬-‫ עַל‬,‫ יז ָהאִירָה ָפנֶי ָך‬17 Make Thy face to shine upon Thy servant; save me in Thy loving-
kindness.

.‫ִשׁאוֹל‬
ְ ‫ יִדְּמוּ ל‬,‫ְשׁעִים‬ ָ ‫א‬-‫אַל‬--‫ יח יְהוָה‬18 O LORD, let me not be ashamed, for I have called upon Thee; let
ָ ‫ כִּי ְקרָאתִי ָך; יֵבֹשׁוּ ר‬,‫ֵבוֹשׁה‬
the wicked be ashamed, let them be put to silence in the nether-world.
.‫ ְבּגַ ֲאוָה וָבוּז‬--‫ ַצדִּיק ָעתָק‬-‫הַדֹּבְרוֹת עַל‬ :‫ ָשׁקֶר‬-‫ ִשׂ ְפתֵי‬,‫ יט תֵּאָ ַל ְמנָה‬19 Let the lying lips be dumb, which speak arrogantly against the
righteous, with pride and contempt.
:‫ ָצ ַפנְ ָתּ לִּי ֵראֶי ָך‬-‫ֲשׁר‬
ֶ ‫ א‬,‫טוּ ְב ָך‬-‫ כ מָה רַב‬20 Oh how abundant is Thy goodness, which Thou hast laid up for
.‫ ְבּנֵי אָדָם‬,‫ לַחֹסִים ָבּ ְך; נֶגֶד‬,‫ ָפּ ַע ְל ָתּ‬them that fear Thee; which Thou hast wrought for them that take their
refuge in Thee, in the sight of the sons of men!

:‫אִישׁ‬-‫ ֵמ ֻר ְכסֵי‬--‫ ְבּ ֵסתֶר ָפּנֶי ָך‬,‫ כא ַתּ ְסתִּירֵם‬21 Thou hidest them in the covert of Thy presence from the plottings
.‫ ִתּ ְצ ְפּנֵם ְבּ ֻסכָּה; ֵמרִיב לְשֹׁנוֹת‬of man; Thou concealest them in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
.‫ ְבּעִיר מָצוֹר‬,‫כִּי ִה ְפלִיא ַחסְדּוֹ לִי‬ :‫ כב בָּרוּ ְך יְהוָה‬22 Blessed be the LORD; for He hath shown me His wondrous lov-
ingkindness in an entrenched city.
:‫ ִמנֶּגֶד עֵינֶי ָך‬,‫ נְִג ַרזְתִּי‬--‫ אָ ַמ ְרתִּי ְב ָח ְפזִי‬,‫ כג וַ ֲאנִי‬23 As for me, I said in my haste: 'I am cut off from before Thine eyes';
ַ ‫ קוֹל ַתּחֲנוּנַי; בּ‬,‫ ָשׁ ַמ ְע ָתּ‬--‫ אָכֵן‬nevertheless Thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried
.‫ְשׁוְּעִי ֵאלֶי ָך‬
unto Thee.
:‫ ֲחסִידָיו‬-‫ כָּל‬,‫יְהוָה‬-‫ כד ֶאהֱבוּ אֶת‬24 O love the LORD, all ye His godly ones; the LORD preserveth the
.‫עֹשׂה גַ ֲאוָה‬
ֵ ,‫יֶתֶר‬-‫ְשׁלֵּם עַל‬ַ ‫ נֹצֵר יְהוָה; וּמ‬,‫ אֱמוּנִים‬faithful, and plentifully repayeth him that acteth haughtily.
.‫ לַיהוָה‬,‫ ַה ְמיַ ֲחלִים‬-‫כָּל‬ --‫ וְיַ ֲאמֵץ ְל ַב ְבכֶם‬,‫ כה ִחזְקוּ‬25 Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all ye that wait for the
LORD.
