1. Where do I TITHE?
If you eat at a McDonald’s restaurant,
where should you pay? Jollibee?
Definitely at McDonald’s because that
is where you got your food.
A principle behind this question is,
where do you get spiritually fed? If
you get spiritually fed in your local
church, be it Protestant, Roman
Catholic or Evangelical, that is where
you return your tithes.
“Bring the whole tithe into the
storehouse, that there may be food
in my house. Test me in this,” says
the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will
not throw open the floodgates of
heaven and pour out so much
blessing that you will not have room
enough for it.” Malachi 3:10
2. How much should I TITHE?
Is it based on gross or net
profit?
We must return 10% of whatever
we receive.
**PERSONAL INCOME TITHE
This means the gross amount if you
are receiving a salary or a
commission net of government
taxes. When we tithe, it must be
based on what you have before your
household and personal expenses.
Tithe before you spend.
**BUSINESS INCOME TITHE
First, pay all your company’s
expenses, like utilities and employees’
salaries, or anything that has to do
with operational expenses. Whatever
income you have left, you tithe out of
it. Individuals as well as businesses
should look for ways to give rather
than ways not to give.
Always remember that God is more
interested in our hearts than in the
actual amount we give. We can be
technical about this and count it
down to the last centavo. But at the
end of the day, we need to be
reminded of this verse:
“With the measure you use, it will be
measured to you—and even more.”
Mark 4:24
3. Can I divide my TITHE and
give it to other churches or
other ministries?
In Malachi it is stated that we have to
return THE WHOLE TITHE into the
storehouse. Not a part, but the
whole. We do not have the right to
divide it up to give a certain
percentage to this ministry and the
rest to charity because it is not ours.
Again, if we follow the principle “you
can never give what you do not
own,” you must give out of your
offering if you really want to give to
other charitable institutions and
ministries.
4. Where do I give my
Offerings?
You can give your offering to a
ministry of your choice, or to charity,
or to individuals who do the work of
God, or to people you want to help.
But once you give, you just do not
give for the sake of giving. You must
prayerfully consider the prompting of
God the Holy Spirit.
A final word in giving. Giving is just
like sowing a seed in the soil. Once
you sow, make sure you are sowing
in GOOD SOIL.
5. How do I know if I am
planting on good soil?
Good soil is a ministry, a church or
an individual who does the will and
the work of God. The reason why
this person is good soil is because he
is advancing the work and the
kingdom of God.
If there is good soil, there is also bad
soil.
Bad soil is just like hard soil. Bad soil
is organizations or individuals who
continue to ask for money but do not
bear good fruit. They are very
dependent on you and may suck you
dry. You will never plant your good
seeds on bad and hard soil. Because it
will never grow and it will just die.
Again, you have to prayerfully ask
God before you plant your seed.
6. How can I become
close to God?
This is one of the most frequently
asked questions by new
believers. This is how I will
answer it from the perspective of
finances.
If you invest in the stock market, you
will probably look at how your stock
is performing and your favorite TV
cable channels will be ANC (for the
Philippine stock exchange), CNN and
Bloomberg (for the New York stock
market).
If you bought a brand new car, the
car of your dreams, you will
probably clean and wax it day in and
day out.
If you invest your money in the
kingdom of God, you will also be
involved and very much
interested with what God is doing in
the world today. For where your
treasure is, there your heart will be
also. See Matthew 6:21. Invest in
the kingdom of God, earn all you can,
save all you can and give all you can.
Let us see if you do not become
close to Him. That is what this verse
is all about. Delight yourself in the
LORD and he will give you the
desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
Your desires align with God’s, and
not the other way around. When
you give to fulfill God’s desires, His
desires become your desires. His
heartbeat becomes your heartbeat.
