Editorial 1 "We have to come out with a newsletter this semester , LATEST BY NEXT WEEK !", these golden words
came upon us like firecrackers. With submissions and exams taking away our night's sleep, we could see
Council Reports 1-2 our studies catching flames and marks turning to ashes. It seemed an impossible task ! But no matter
what we had to come out with one ... and so we did !
Marathon 3 Our first issue of FootPrints 2010-2011 is an overview of all the activities which were conducted in
Fr. CRCE in this semester. It portrays a book -CRCE whose theme is hard work and gist is success . With
tremendous effort put forth by our students, their diligence and persistence made CRCE stand high and

host events like debate, marathon , AISC , Crescendo and the list goes on. Its time the winners deserve a
round of applaud and a strong support to motivate them and cherish their success. Its time to honor our

CSI

T
he Computer Society of India has always been striving hard to instill as much of tech buzz and knowledge into
students, as they can. The CSI started their event wave considering the fact that the students needed to know
what the current scenario of the I.T. industry was and importance of International Certification. This seminar EDITORS
was held in Samvaad which saw a participation of more than 100 students. CSI held another seminar on de- Devaki Dikshit
veloping application for ipad or iphone which was delivered by professionals from apple computers. The later weeks
saw the first years coming in. Our concern for their learning of Linux O.S. pushed us towards holding a workshop on Aditya Muckaden
Tips and Tricks on Linux. Responding to public demand, Advanced Linux was held in the next week. A Joomla workshop Siddhant Shah
followed, to enable the students develop powerful websites. We then had an Industrial Visit to Infosys Pune followed by
Aditya Shroff
Flash Workshop in the Mac Lab hereby coming to an end of our event filled semester.

CESA

A
DESIGN
lthough CESA‟s 1st event was held in August 2010, its activities had already begun before the academic
start of this semester. All the council members were planning out activities for CResCEndo ‟10 and were en- Bhishman Desai
gaged in getting sponsors. CESA conducted:
1] „How to create your own Search Engine‟ – This seminar was given by our very own Technical Advisor Akash
Singh. It was a success and was liked by students & teachers alike. PROF. IN CHARGE
2] „Linux Workshop‟ – This workshop was a joint venture by CESA & CSI and was conducted only for the FEs and SEs. It Prof. Mrs. Basanti Raina
was a huge success and 6 council members conducted it.
3] „Oracle Certification Seminar‟ – This event was held in association with IndiaCan.

AISC– ALL INDIA STUDENTS CONGRESS 2010

rom 24th September 2010 to the 26th September 2010 IEEE-CRCE and Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering played host to many high
profile delegates including Prof. KasiRajagopal (Chairperson IEEE India Council) and Mr.RajuHira (Chairperson IEEE Bombay Section) to name a
few, guests and students from all across the country who participated in the much anticipated IEEE India Councils All India Student Congress
2010 organized by IEEE Bombay Section in association with IEEE-CRCE.

All the speakers were spectacular and left the students asking for more. Followed by these speakers the students of Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of En-
gineering had planned a splendid cultural night which included dance performances, a small play on AIDS awareness.The college orchestra performed in
front of the audience which was followed by a band event.
The All India Student Congress 2010 is considered to be the pinnacle of intercollegiate events that any college can undertake. IEEE-CRCE and Fr. Conceicao
Rodrigues College of Engineering were given the honor of playing host to such a grand event because of the trust, both IEEE India Council and IEEE Bombay
Section had in IEEE-CRCE. The event was a grand success thanks to the hours of effort put in by the entire IEEE-CRCE Council specially by the branch coun-
selor Mrs. Swapnali Mahadik, along with the support and cooperation of the entire faculty both teaching and non-teaching of Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues Col-
lege of Engineering.

EESA

E
ESA-CRCE conducted 14 events in the semester aimed for the benefit of FE and SE Electronics. The major events for the FEs were: i] Calculator
seminar wherein students were taught to use the engineering calculator efficiently. We got a good response of 80 students. The other major event
was robotics (level 1) for FEs. Here as well we got a massive participation of 22 teams, 4 members per team. Small events like quiz, flash lectures
and Sci-Fi writing were also conducted. From the students point of view, 2 workshops were conducted, PCB making and DC supply making. These
2 workshops were conducted to help the students make their projects quicker and better.

IEEE

T
he lists of events conducted by IEEE-CRCE SB from July 2010 to October 2010, along with a brief description are as follows:
1] Inauguration of Tech-Junkies and deceleration of the IEEE-WIE-CRCE council: Tech-Junkies is a hobby club which aims to impart deeper knowl-
edge to students and help them to come up with projects outside from their curriculum. Events conducted were „karaoke‟ circuit, soldering work-
shop and PCB wizard.
2] Introduction to lab: IEEE-CRCE got kick-started by organizing a seminar-cum-workshop on „Introduction to the Lab‟ on 29th and 30th July in the Basic
Electronic Circuits lab. This was with a view to giving the second year students a first-hand acquaintance with various electronic components and instru-
ments.
3] Soldering Workshop: A soldering practice session was organized on 6th September by IEEE-CRCE for the participants of Solder of Fortune. The event was
organized in order to teach soldering techniques to the first year students.
4] Industrial visit to Artemis Electricals: The members of the IEEE organization conducted a one day industrial visit to Artemis Electricals industry located in
Vasai east on Saturday, 14th of August, 2010.
5] Technical Debate: IEEE-CRCE conducted a technical debate for all the students of Fr. C. R. C. E. The debate was in collaboration with EESA-CRCE and was
the first of its kind in the college
6] Workshop on Protius: A workshop on Protius, circuit simulation software was conducted by IEEE-CRCE for the students of T. E. Electronics.
Besides these events IEEE-WIE-CRCE conducted the following events:
- An embedded systems workshop.
- Circuit syndrome which helped first students solve problems they would face in BEE.

ISME

A
fter the ISME council declaration in August 2010, they began their journey by organizing a visit to ITI department of Fr. Agnel Technical College, it
was attended by students from SE and TE. The second venture was a seminar on CATD- Computer Aided Tool Design which was held in „Samvad‟.
Lectures on CATD by Prof. Pande (IIT Powai) and Experts from the tooling industries were attended by students and faculty from 20 colleges. The
third venture was a seminar on ship building by Capt. Ramesh Babu. The seminar was successful with a good response from faculty and students.

ROTRACT CLUB

T
his year was the first year for Rotaract Club of Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engg. This year started with lots of fun events to bring the club
together, notable was the trip to Tungareshwar. The installation ceremony happened on the 7th of August, 2010, officially installing the club in the
Rotaract International Organisation. Following this, we had a seminar on Industrial Dynamics where a delegation of TCS spoke about changes in
the industry. World Peace Day was celebrated by donning white ribbons. The jewel on the crown was „The Goodwill Run‟ which helped us raise Rs.
20000 for Shanti Avedhna and Fr. Agnel Ashram.

E-CELL

T
wo events were conducted through the semester:
1] HOW TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS
A seminar was conducted by a panel of 4 industrial experts to address the problems faced by aspiring entrepreneurs. People from different fields
and alumni had participated.
2] JOHARI
It is a management game which tests your compatibility with your teammates. The event had around 40 participants which were divided into 4 groups. Each
team had to go through 4 stages to prove their team efficient.

NSS

There was an Orientation for new NSS Members by Prof Paul which included felicitation to the Old Council and Introduction of the new council.
Event 1: Flag Distribution:
It consisted of distribution of flags that were made by “Mentally Challenged Children” and the amount collected was given to them.
Event 2:One Day Trip to Bhangwadi The NSS unit of Fr.CRCE held a one day trip to Bhangwadi,Murbad on 19 August 2010 .
Event 3:Seminars
There were two seminars given by Mr Vijay Nair on „ Stigma & Discrimination‟ and by Mrs Meena on „AIDS Awareness‟. Both Seminar created interest when
the speakers told that they were HIV+.
The Seminars ended with a vote of thanks by our Programme Officer, Dr.Hemant Khanolkar.
Event 4:Street Play Training
Event 5:Diya Painting Workshop
In this event 450 Diyas were Painted by Bal-Bhavan students with the help of NSS Members and were sold to all the students and staff with a token that the
profit goes to Bal-Bhavan Children. The NSS Members also visited Bhabha Hospital twice once for Blood Bank visit and next time for Maleria awareness.
They even wrote Planck Cards for Farmers (In Collaboration with Share NGO ).

WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS

Electronics – Two day workshop on „Recent Advances in Power Electronics & Drives‟ held on the 20 th & 21st of August, 2010.

Computers – Two day workshop on „Open Commerce‟ held on the 30th & 31st of July, 2010.

Information Technology – Two day faculty seminar on „Data Mining, Data Warehousing, 2 Business Intelligence‟ held on the 17 th & 18th of September,
2010.

Production – One day seminar on „Computer Aided Tool Design‟ held on the 18 th of September, 2010.

MARATHON BLOOD DONATION DRIVE

otaract Club Fr.CRCE took up a
„different‟ approach to help the he NSS Unit of Fr.CRCE held a blood donation drive in the college premises on 29 September in
needy. „The Goodwill Run‟ was a collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi Blood Bank and Think Foundation. The event started at 9 am
3.5 km long marathon, all runners when the gates of the Auditorium were thrown open for all donors. As an addition to the blood
running for a purpose, a purpose of helping to donation activity, everyone had the option of being tested for Thalassemia. Even though some
support the needy. All proceeds that were to be students were sent back by the doctors their effort and initiative was acknowledged. This year, the entire

SPORTS REPORT

I
ntra-College Football –
This year‟s events kicked off with the intra-college football tournament. It was a very
exciting tournament where all the classes displayed their skill and enthusiasm for foot-
ball. After a few months of intense football, SE Prod emerged as champions.
Sports Week –
This year‟s sports week was held from 9th to 13th of October, 2010 on the school ground
and college gymkhana. The sports conducted were:
1] Rink Football (Boys & Girls): This boys event saw participation from more than 35
teams. The winners were SFIT with our college teams standing second and third. In the
girls event, 6 teams participated with our college team standing 1st and TSEC coming 2nd.
2] Throwball (Girls): This year, in the throwball tournament, for the 1st time Fr.CRCE saw
league stages among the top 4 teams. At the end of this, DJ Sanghavi emerged winners CLASS OF SE PRODUCTION 2013– WINNERS OF INTRACOL-
closely followed by Fr.CRCE and Rizvi College. LEGE FOOTBALL COMPETITION
3] Volleyball (Boys): Volleyball also this year saw league stages, after which the finals was
held between RAIT & Jhundle College in which Jhundle won in a nail biting 3 setter match.
Fr. CRCE stood third.
4] Table Tennis (Boys): This year, for the first time, table tennis was introduced. It saw par-
ticipation from around 16 colleges with KJ Somaiya securing 1st place followed by DJ and
Fr.CRCE.
5] Carrom (Boys): Carrom saw participation from 8 colleges out of which our college fin-
ished third.
Sportsaga ‟10, MIT (Pune) –
This year‟s national sports event took place from the 29th Sept to 3rd Oct. In the tourna-
ment, our college participated in football (semifinals), basketball (quarterfinals), badmin-
ton, table tennis (quarterfinals), lawn tennis, volleyball, carrom, chess, swimming (50m
freestyle – 3rd, 50m breaststroke – 2nd, 50m butterfly – 1st).

FR. CONCEICAO RODRIG UES MEMORIAL DEBATE

T
he first major event of the CRCE annual event calendar, the 12th Annual Fr.Conceicao Rodrigues College of
Engineering Memorial Debate 2010, kicked off on the 4th September, 2010, after a month long preparation
put in by the Students' Council and the Debate Committee.
With 'India: A decade of changes' as the theme, the two-day-event was indeed a war of words, a battle of
ideas, between teams from 14 elite institutions across Mumbai.
The debate had the honor of having the gracious presence of Chief Guest, Mayor Ms.Shraddha Jadhav, who, along
with Guest of Honour, Mr.Kiran Umrootkar left a memorable mark on the young minds.
The judges for the two days included Prof.Poonam Ojha, Prof.Jayanti Das, Prof.Mavis Dias, Prof.Revathi, Prof.Madhavi Principal felicitating Hon. Mayor Mrs.
Gokhale, Prof.Bertha Fernandes and Prof.Shyamlee Solanki. Shraddha Jadhav
Every individual debate saw a variety of talent, orating prowess, spontaneity and excellent language command, with a
classic blend of assertive yetbalanced temperament shown by the debaters. Each topic was extremely well debated
and involved intensely animated refutation rounds and lucid reasoning, with the teams drawing rousing applause from
the hypnotized audience, for their witty retaliation.
The final showdown between CRCE and TSEC, saw some brilliant display of spontaneous wordplay with the CRCE team
packing in the punch lines, much to the delight of the captivated audience. Eventually, after a nail-biting, fitting final,
the home team, CRCE, walked away with the coveted trophy and the glory!
Thus the Fr.CRCE Memorial debate lived up to it's name once again and was a grand success, thanks to the com-
mendable support of the Professors, the members of the Student Council and the Debate Committee, and all the vol-

CRESCENDO 2010

T
his year, our technical festival, CResCEndo ‟10 took place on the 15th and 16th of October. With the thought
that multitasking is the need of the hour, we decided to have an octopus as our mascot. We named it EPIC
after the four streams in college, namely Electronics, Production, Information technology & Computers.

We had a variety of events ranging from robotics to quizzes to gaming and other mentally as well as physically
challenging events. . During the fest, we even had the Bal Bhavan kid trying their hands at some of the events.
After a fierce battle, TE Production emerged as winners of the intra-college Technical Trophy, whereas TSEC got the
Best College trophy.
The hard work, dedication and sincerity of all the students associated with CResCEndo'10 finally paid off as it was
a commendable success. It was appreciated by one and all who attended and participated in the technical festival Winners of Technical Trophy 2010:

The inaugural ceremony of the Women's Development


Cell, in accordance with the proposition of the Supreme
Court of India, was held on Saturday, 21st of August,2010.The staff
members and girl students were present at Samvad at 10.30 am
for a workshop on Women's rights and awareness.
Ms.Majlis Nausheen, the renowned matrimonial lawyer and our
chief guest for the day, spoke about a topics which covered the
various problems faced by women in India from social harassment
to dowry, sex discrimination to physical abuse and much more. Her
young age, ferocious thoughts and dynamic personality was a per-
