And Warnings
About Satan
(Shaytan)
THE STORY OF SATAN
As told to the Prophet
(May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him)

In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate.

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds; and blessing and peace be upon our master Muhammad,
the righteous Prophet, upon his family, the pure ones, and upon his companions.

As reported by Mu'adh ibn Jabal (r.a.). Abd-Allah the son of `Abbas (r.a.) said: "We were sitting
together in a group with the Apostle of Allah (PBUH) in the house of one of the Ansar, when
someone called out 'O people of the house! Will you permit me to enter? I have a task to fulfill
for you'. "

"Do you know who the caller is?" asked the Apostle of Allah (PBUH). "Allah and His Apostle
knows best." They said. So the Apostle of Allah (PBUH) told them: "This is Satan, the Cursed
One whom Allah has dammed." "Let me kill him, O Apostle of Allah !(PBUH)" said Umar ibn
al Khattab (r.a.), but the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Gently, Umar. Do you not realize that he is
among those granted respite until the Appointed Day? Instead, open the door for him, for
he is under command. Understand what he says and listen to what he has to tell you."

Abd-Allah son of `Abbas (r.a.) continued: "So the door was opened for him and he entered to
join them. He was an old man, blind in one eye and with only very thin hair growing on his face.
His beard consisted of seven hairs like those of the horse, and his eyes were set vertically. His
head was like that of a great elephant, his eye-teeth protruded like the tusks of a boar, and his lips
were like those of a bull."

"Peace be upon you, Muhammad." He said, "and peace be upon you, O gathering of Muslims."
"Peace is of Allah (SWT), Cursed One," said the Prophet (PBUH). "I have heard. What is
your desire?" "Muhammad," he said to him, "I did not come to you of my own accord, but
rather because I was forced to do so." "And what is that, that forced you, Cursed One?"
asked the Prophet (PBUH). Satan replied, "An angel came to me from the Exalted Lord and
told me, 'Allah Most High orders you to come to Muhammad (PBUH). Be humble, abject and
unpretentious; tell him how you deceive and mislead the sons of Adam (AS), and answer
truthfully any question he asks you. By my might and glory, if you tell him a single lie or fail to
be truthful with him, I will turn you into ashes for the winds to blow away, and your enemies
will gloat at your misfortune.' So I have come to you as I was ordered, Muhammad. Ask me
anything you want, for if I do not respond truthfully to what you ask me my enemies will gloat at
my misfortune, and nothing is there more unbearable than the gloating of one's enemies."

"If you be sincere," said the Apostle of Allah (PBUH), "then tell me - who among men do
you most hate?" "You Muhammad," replied Satan, "and those like you are to me the most hated
of Allah's (SWT) Creatures." "What else do you hate?" the Prophet (PBUH) asked. "The
devoted youth who dedicates his soul to Allah Almighty." "And then who?" "A pious learned
man I know to be patient." "And then who?" "He who remains pure through three prayers."
"And then who?" "A patient pauper, if he speaks of his poverty to no one and does not
complain of his plight." "And how do you know him to be patient?" "Muhammad, if he
complained of his plight to another, created as he is, for three consecutive days, Allah (SWT)
would not record for him the merit allotted to the patient." "And then who?" "The rich man
who is thankful." "And how do you know him to be thankful?" asked the Prophet (PBUH).
"When I see him take the right thing and put it in the right place."

"Then the Prophet (PBUH) asked, "What happens to you when my people rise for prayer?"
"Muhammad," he replied, "I am afflicted by fever and trembling." "Why Cursed One?" "Because
when the worshiper prostrates himself before Allah (SWT), Allah (SWT) raises him a step."
"And when they fast?" "I am fettered until they lapse." "And when they make the
pilgrimage?" "I become insane." "And when they read the Qur`an?" "I melt, as lead melts
over the fire." "And when they give alms?" "It is as if the almsgiver had taken a saw and cut
me in two." "And why is that, Abu Murra?"1 asked the Prophet (PBUH). "In almsgiving there
are four benefits," he said; "and they are that Allah Almighty sends down blessing on all his
possessions, endears him to His Creation, makes his offering a screen between him and the Fire,
and through it defends him from infirmities and disasters."

[What do you say of Abu Bakr Siddiq? * omitted *] "He did not submit to me in the days of
ignorance, Muhammad, so how could he do so under Islam?" "And what say you of `Umar ibn
al-Khattab?" "By Allah (SWT), I never encountered him without fleeing from him." "And
what say you of `Uthman ibn Affan?" "I feel ashamed before one whom the angels of the
Merciful feel ashamed." "And what say you of `Ali ibn Abi Talibi?" "Would Allah (SWT) that
I were secure from him head for head; he would leave me alone and I would leave him alone.
But that he has never done." "Praise be to Allah (SWT), who has made my community
felicitous and you wretched until the Appointed Day," said the Apostle of Allah (PBUH).

But Satan, the Cursed One, said to him, "Alas, how wrong you are! Where is the felicity of your
community while I live and die not until the Appointed Day?" How can you be pleased with your
community while I enter them through the bloodstream and flesh and they recognize me not? By
He who created me and granted me respite until the day when they are called forth, I shall tempt
them all, ignorant and learned, illiterate and literate, blasphemer and worshiper, except for the
sincerely devoted worshipers of Allah (SWT)."

"And who, according to you, are the sincerely devoted ones?" "Do you not know,
Muhammad, that he who cherishes the dirham and dinar is not sincerely devoted to Allah
Almighty? When I see a man who loves neither dirham nor dinar, nor flattery nor praise, I know
that he is sincerely devoted to Allah Almighty and so leave him alone. But as long as the
worshiper cherishes wealth and flattery, and his heart is preoccupied with worldly desires, he
will be more submissive than I could possibly describe to you. Do you not know that the love of
wealth is one of the most heinous sins of all, Muhammad; and that the lust for power is one of
the most heinous sins of all; and that pride is one of the most heinous sins of all? Do you not
know, Muhammad, that I have 70,000 sons, each of whom has 70,000 devils? Among these are
those I assign to the learned men, those I assign to young men, those I assign to old men, those I
assign to old women - as for the young men, there is no disagreement between us and them; and
as for the boys, the [devils] play with them as they choose - those I assign to worshipers, and
those I assign to ascetics. They enter among them and drive them out from station to station and
gate to gate until they beguile them by one means or another; they deprive them of sincerity, so
they worship Allah Almighty insincerely and yet do not realize it."

"Do you not know, Muhammad, that the monk Barisa devoted seventy sincere years to Allah
(SWT), to the point that he could cure by his invocation anyone who was ill; yet I did not
abandon him until he had fornicated, murdered and apostatized. He is the one to whom Allah
Almighty referred in His Glorious Book when He said: 'Like Satan, when he said to Man,
"Disbelieve;" then, when he disbelieved, he said, "Surely I fear Allah (SWT), the Lord of the
Worlds.'"2

"Do you not know, Muhammad, that lying is my doing, that I was the first to lie, and that
whoever lies is my friend and whoever swears falsely in Allah's (SWT) name is my beloved? Do
you not know, Muhammad, that in Allah's (SWT) name I swore to Adam and Eve (AS). 'For
Allah's sake, surely I am one of your sincerest advisors.' The lying oath is the joy of my heart;
slander and defamation are my fruits and my delight; and bearing false witness brings pleasure
and satisfaction to my eye."

"He who swears divorce is on the brink of sin, even if he does so only once, or acts in good faith.
The wife of him whose tongue has grown accustomed to divorce is forbidden to him; but they do
not cease to beget children until the Resurrection Day, and all of those will be children of
adultery and will enter the Fire for the sake of a word."

"Muhammad, in your community there are those who postpone the prayer an hour or so. Every
time he wants to rise for prayer, I stand by him and whisper wicked suggestions to him and tell
him, 'There is still time; you are busy,' until he puts off the prayer and performs it at other than
its appointed time, for which it is flung back in his face. If he defeats me I send to him one of the
devils of mankind to delay him beyond the time for prayer, and if he defeats me in that, I leave
him alone until he is praying and then say to him, 'Look to the right and left.' So he looks, and as
he does so I stroke his face with my hand, kiss him between the eyes and tell him, 'Surely you
have done what can never be forgiven.' And you yourself know, Muhammad, that Allah (SWT)
flings back in his face the prayer of one who keeps looking around as he performs it."

"If he defeats me in the prayer and is praying alone, I tell him to hurry; he pecks at the prayer
like a rooster pecks at seeds, and rushes through it. If he defeats me and is praying in a group, I
hold him back with a bridle, raise his head before the Imam and lower it before the Imam. And
you yourself know, Muhammad, that the prayer of one who does that counts for nothing, and on
the Resurrection Day Allah (SWT) will turn his head into that of an ass."

"And if he defeats me in that, I tell him to crack his knuckles during the prayer, so that he
becomes one of my worshipers as he prays. And if he defeats me in that I blow into his nose until
he yawns while he prays, and if he does not put his hand over his mouth the devil enters his
stomach, making him increasingly greedy for and fond of things of the world, and attentive and
submissive to me."
"And is there any felicity for your community while I order the poor to stop praying, telling him,
'Prayer is not your obligation, but rather the obligation of him to whom Allah (SWT) has shown
favor,' and telling the sick, 'Stop praying; it is not your obligation, but rather the obligation of
him whom Allah (SWT) has favored with good health, for Allah Almighty has said: "There is no
fault in the sick."3 When you recover you will pray as you should,' so that he dies as an apostate.
And when he dies having abandoned prayer in his illness, he meets Allah Almighty and Allah
(SWT) is displeased with him."

"If I have lied or digressed, Muhammad, ask Allah (SWT) to turn me into ashes. Can you rejoice
in your community, Muhammad, when I have diverted a sixth of it from the path of Islam?"
"Cursed One," asked the Prophet (PBUH), who is your table companion?" "The usurer."
"And who is your friend?" "The fornicator." "And your bedfellow?" "The drunkard." "Who
is your guest?" "The thief." "And who is your envoy?" "The sorcerer." "What is refreshing
to your eye?" "He who swears divorce." "And who is your beloved?" "The one who abandons
the Friday prayer."

"Cursed One," said the Apostle of Allah (PBUH), "What breaks your back?" "The whinnying
of the horses in the cause of Allah (SWT)." "And what wastes away your body?" "The
repentance of the contrite." "And what inflames your liver?" "Frequent seeking of Allah's
(SWT) forgiveness by night and day." "What embarrasses you?" "Giving alms in secret."
"What blurs your vision?" "The dawn prayer." "What bridles your head?" "Frequent prayer
in a group." "And who, according to you, is the happiest of men?" "He who deliberately
abandons prayer." "And which men, according to you, are the most wretched?" "The
thrifty." "What distracts you from your work?" "The councils of the learned." "And how do
you eat?" "With the fingers of my left hand." "Where do you go to shelter your sons in times
of fiery winds and sandstorms?" "Under the fingernails of men." Then the Prophet (PBUH)
asked, "How many needs have you asked your Lord to grant you?" "Ten things." "And
what are they, Cursed One?"

"I asked Him to let me share in the wealth and children of the sons of Adam (AS), so He made
me their associate when He said: 'And share with them in their wealth and their children, and
promise them. But Satan promises them naught, except delusion.'5 I feed on any ill-gotten
fortune, and also on any source of sustenance associated with usury or other forbidden practices,
on any wealth from which he does not seek protection from Satan the Cursed, and on anyone
who does not seek protection during intercourse. When he enters his wife the devil enters with
her, and the child is born attentive and submissive to me. And whoever rides the beast of burden
in search of anything not permissive has me for a comrade, as in the Word of the Almighty: 'And
rally against them thy horsemen and thy foot.'"6

"I asked Him to make for me a home, and it was the bathhouse. I asked Him to make for me a
mosque, and it was the bazaars. I asked Him to make for me a call to prayer, and it was the sound
of flutes. I asked Him to make for me a bedfellow, and he was the drunkard. I asked Him to
make for me some servants, and they are the abilitarians. I asked Him to make for me some
companions, and He said: 'Those whose fortunes are squandered in sin.' And then recited His
verse: 'The squanderers are brothers of Satan.'"7 "Were you not offering me verification in
verses of the Book of Allah Almighty for every word," said the Prophet (PBUH), "I would
not believe you."

"Muhammad, he said, "I asked Allah Almighty that I may see the sons of Adam (AS) while they
see me not, so He caused me to flow in their veins like blood and granted my soul the freedom to
roam as I wish. If I want something within the hour, Allah Almighty says, 'You shall have what
you seek,' and of that I can boast until Resurrection day. Those with me are more numerous than
those with you, and most of the progeny of Adam (AS) are with me until the Resurrection day."

"I have a son whom I call 'Atama; he urinates in the ear of the worshiper if he sleeps through the
evening prayer, and were it not for that people would not fall asleep until they had performed the
prayer. I have a son whom I call Mutaqadi; when a believer privately performs a pious deed and
wants to keep it secret, he never stops trying to drag it out of him in front of others until he tells
people about it. Allah Almighty thus cancels ninety-nine of the hundred merits and there remains
for him only one, since for every good deed done in secret he gains one hundred merits. And I
have a son whom I call Kahil; it is he who lines the eyes of the people with kohl in the councils
of the learned and during the orator's address, until they fall asleep while listening to the words
of the scholars. Thus Allah (SWT) never records merits for them. No woman goes out without a
devil sitting at her backside and another at her privates; they make her attractive to those who see
her and tell her, 'Stretch forth your hand.' When she does so, her fingertips are exposed and she is
disgraced."

Then he said, "Muhammad, I have nothing to do with misguidance; rather I am a whisperer of

wicked suggestions and a tempter. If misguidance was within my grasp, I would leave no one on
the face of the earth saying 'There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah,'
or fasting or praying. Similarly, you have nothing to do with guidance, but are an apostle and a
messenger. If guidance was within your grip, you would leave no unbeliever on the face of the
earth. You are Allah's (SWT) proof among His creation, and I am the reason given to one whose
misery is foreordained. The happy man is the one whom Allah (SWT) made so in his mother's
womb, and the miserable man is the one whom Allah (SWT) made so in his mother's womb."

Then the Apostle of Allah (PBUH) recited the Word of the Almighty: 'But they continue in their
differences, excepting those on whom thy Lord has mercy;'8 and then: 'And Allah's (SWT)
command is doom decreed."9 With that the Prophet (PBUH) said, "Abu Murra, turn from sin and
return to Allah Almighty, and I will be your guarantee of Paradise." "Muhammad," he replied, "it
has been decided, and the pen is dry from recording how things will be until the Resurrection
Day. So praised be He who made you the master of the prophets and the preacher to the people
of Paradise, singled you out and loved you, and made me the master of the damned and preacher
to the people of the Fire, cursed me and banished me. This is all I have to say to you, and indeed,
I have done so in good faith."

Praise be to Allah (SWT), Lord of the Worlds, first and last, visible and invisible; and may the
blessing of Allah (SWT) be upon our master Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, and on his
family and all his companions, and His peace be upon the Muslims. Praise be to Allah (SWT),
Lord of the Worlds. Ameen.
[Notes]:
1. Abu Murra, 'father of Murra (bitter)', was one of Satan's surnames, in this case deriving from
his athering of a girl with this name.
2. According to the traditional account, Barisa was entrusted with custody of the ill sister of three
brothers who were leaving the country for a time. Tempted by Satan, Barisa seduces her, and
then kills her upon discovering that she was with child. The brothers return, and Barisa tells them
the girl died a natural death. Satan, however, reveals the truth to them, and then goes to the
terrified monk and offers to save him if he will denounce Allah (SWT) and swear loyalty to
Satan. Barisa complies, whereupon Satan mocks him with these words from Surat al-Hashr
(56:16). The story and its literary development are discussed in useful articles in both editions of
the Encyclopaedia of Islam, q.v. Barisa.

*****

There is great wisdom in acting for God's sake and refusing to act for any other reason. Once
Ali, the son-in-law of the Prophet, was fighting on the battlefield with one of the most powerful
champions of the enemy. He finally managed to strike the warrior's sword from his hand. As he
raised his sword to take the enemy's life, the man spat in Ali's face. Ali sopped and sheathed his
sword. The warrior said, "I don't understand. You were about to kill me, and yet after I spit at
you, you spare my life. Why?" Ali replied, "I was going to take your life in battling for God's
sake, but when you spat at me, it angered me. Had I killed you then, I would have been a
murderer, or I would have struck in anger. I will fight for God, but I will not murder for my ego."
[Essential Sufism, Sheikh Muzaffer, p.198]
Adam was still a child, so God brought him into the path of caresses. The path of children is one
thing, the furnace of heroes something else. Adam was taken into Paradise on the shoulders of
the great angels of God's kingdom. Paradise was made the cradle for his greatness and the pillow
for his leadership, because he still did not have the endurance for the court of
severity...Tomorrow. Adam will go into Paradise with his children. A cry will rise up from all
the particles of Paradise because of the crow ding. The angels of the world of the dominion will
look with wonder and say, "is this that same man who moved out of Paradise a few days ago in
poverty and indigence?" Suffer a bit of trouble, then in a few days, take the treasure! [Essential
Sufism, Samani, p.199]

Shaytan called a Worldwide Convention!

Shaytan called a worldwide convention. In his opening address to his evil Jinns, he said, "We
can't keep the Believers from going to Masjids. We can't keep them from reading their Qur`an
and knowing the truth. We can't even keep them from forming an intimate, abiding relationship
experience with Allah".
Once they gain that connection with Allah, our power over them is broken. So let them go to
their Masjids; let them have their conservative lifestyles, but steal their time, so they can't gain
that relationship with Allah.

This is what I want you to do Jinns. Distract them from gaining hold of their Lord and
maintaining that vital connection throughout their day! "How shall we do this?" shouted his
Jinns. "Keep them busy in the nonessentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to occupy
their minds," he answered. "Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow.
Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7days each week,
10-12 hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles. Keep them from spending time with
their children. As their family fragments, soon, their home will offer no escape from the
pressures of work!" "Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice.
Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive, to keep the TV, VCR, CDs
and their PCs going constantly in their home and see to it that every store and restaurant in the
world plays non-Qur`anic recitation constantly. This will jam their minds and break that union
with Allah."
"Fill the coffee tables with magazines and newspapers. Pound their minds with the news 24
hours a day. Invade their driving moments with billboards. Flood their mailboxes with junk mail,
mail order catalogs, sweepstakes, and every kind of newsletter and promotional offering free
products, services and false hopes. Keep skinny, beautiful models on the magazines so their
husbands will believe that external beauty is what's important, and they'll become dissatisfied
with their wives. That will fragment those families quickly!"
"Even in their recreation, let them be excessive. Have them return from their recreation
exhausted, disquieted, and unprepared for the coming week. Don't let them go out in nature to
reflect on Allah's wonders. Send them to amusement parks, sporting events, concerts and movies
instead. Keep them busy, busy, and busy! And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve
them in gossip and small talk so that they leave with troubled consciences and unsettled
emotions. Go ahead, let them be involved in soul winning; but crowd their lives with so many
good causes they have no time to seek power from Allah."
"Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good
of the cause. It will work! It will work!" It was quite a convention. The evil Jinns went eagerly to
their assignments causing Believers everywhere to get busier and more rushed, going here and
there. I guess the question is; has the devil been successful at his scheme?

An Interview With Shaytan (The Cursed One)

By
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)
From Kitab Al Awaa'il

We request our readers to read the following interview very carefully. Unfortunately, it is
possible that most readers may be deceived by Shaytan, The Cursed One, and end up not
reading this enlightening interview. If we carefully read this interview and try to
understand and act upon it, it may very well change our way of living and our place of stay
in the Hereafter. We request our readers to republish this interview. As of our knowledge,
this interview is being published for the first time in English. May Allah guide, protect and
help us from the whispers of Shaytan!
NOTE: This article is reprinted from ad-Dawa al-Islamiya, 1st Quarter of 1992, and has been edited to a
small degree.

Once, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was walking out with his companions from the
back-side of Jannatul Baqi (Medina). As he was stepping out, he saw a very old man with a
colorful hat on his head, a colorful belt with diamonds around his waist, a bell in his left hand
and a net in his right hand. This old man said, "As-Salaamu alaykum Ya Rasulu-llah" (O Prophet
of Allah, may the peace of Allah be upon you) to our beloved Prophet (pbuh). The Prophet
(pbuh) did not reply to his salaam. This old man knew very well why our Prophet (pbuh) did not
return his salaam. After all, this old man was not like any other man, he was Shaytan, the cursed
one. Then Shaytan said, "Salaamu-llahi Alaykum Ya Rasulu-llah" (Allah's peace be upon you
Oh Prophet of Allah). Then our Prophet (pbuh) accepted his salaam. Now the companions of the
Prophet (pbuh) understood that this was the cursed one, Shaytan, and they were all surprised to
see the cursed one personally. Without any fruitful results, Shaytan attempted to misguide even
the Prophets and Imams (AS). Shaytan, the cursed one, used meet with the Prophets (AS) to
answer their questions. In fact, it was obligatory on him (the cursed Shaytan) to answer the
questions of the Messengers of Allah.
Our beloved Prophet (pbuh), though he possessed full knowledge, asked Shaytan the following
questions for the sake of his companions:

Our beloved Prophet (pbuh), Oh Shaytan, what is this hat?

Shaytan, the cursed one: "Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), My colorful hat is this world. I present
this world with all transient materialistic goods, perishable benefits, and temporary enjoyments.
Once a person gets caught by this colorful hat of mine, then that person stays in my control and
forgets all about the Hereafter.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, what is this belt you are wearing with gold and diamonds around
your waist?

Shaytan, the cursed one: "Oh Prophet (pbuh), this is my second weapon which keeps my back
bone strong. Oh Prophet (pbuh), when believers do not fall into my trap by my hat then I use this
weapon.

Prophet (pbuh): But what is it?

Shaytan, the cursed one: "Oh Prophet (pbuh), These are the materialistic unveiled women of this
world. Through these women I deceive the believers.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, what is this bell you are holding in your left hand?

Shaytan, the cursed one: This is a bell through which I destroy the faith (Imaan) of the believers.

Prophet (pbuh): How do you do that?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Whenever I see believe arguing, getting into minor verbal antagonisms
or disagreements with each other, then I ring this bell. As I ring this bell, these believers get into
major verbal fights and start saying things to each other (such as backbiting, false accusations, or
using bad language), due to which their own faith disappears from their hearts.

Prophet (pbuh): What is this net you are holding?

Shaytan, the cursed one: When I see the believers not getting trapped by any of my weapons,
then I throw this net at them as my last weapon.

Prophet (pbuh): But what is this net?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), this is Riya! (performing good deeds only
to show people). Whenever I see that your believers are performing all the good deeds and that
they are not getting caught by my weapons, then I throw this net at them. By stepping into this
net their good deeds, which the performed for Allah, become invalid. Because the believers
gradually develop an ego in themselves while performing their Prayers, observing Fasts,
performing Hajj, paying Zakat and Khums, and several other duties towards Allah. They perform
all these and other good deeds; but after they get caught by my net, they show their good deeds
to others and think that they have done a favor for Allah by performing such good deeds. They
tell people when they perform night prayers. They tell people when they fast. They tell people
when they go to Hajj. They give money in charity but only to show off or for their own personal
interest. This is how they eventually feel superior to those people whom they know are not
performing these good deeds. All these actions, which take place after they step into my net,
makes their good deeds go to waste.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, tell me one more thing. Now that you have spent so much of your
time in this life with your bad deeds, do you have any friends?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Although I visit all the houses and people in general, there are 11 types
of people that are my best friends and companions. And there are 15 types of people that I hate
the most. Oh Prophet (pbuh), keep in mind that a person who is my friend is an enemy of Allah,
and a person who is my enemy is a friend of Allah.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, tell me who are your friends, and who are your enemies?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), first I have 15 enemies:

1) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my first enemy is you and your Ahlul Bayt; if it were not for you
and your Ahlul-Bayt, my mission would have been quite successful. There would not have been
even a single believer. But you brought the religion of Allah (Islam) to this world and you made
people believers of Allah's communication.

2) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my second enemy is that just ruler who rules a nation with
complete justice.

3) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh). My third enemy is that rich person who does not have any ego
nor feels super to poor people around him.
4) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my fourth enemy is that businessman who conducts his business
with justice.

5) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), My fifth enemy is that scholar (Aalim) who fears Allah and
practices what he preaches.

6) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my sixth enemy is that specific believer who works to show
others the path of truth. Who offers the knowledge of obligatory (Wajibaat) and forbidden
(Haraam) duties of Allah. This Person is undoing, all of my hard work.

7) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my seventh enemy is that person who doesn't listen to what is
forbidden, doesn't look at what is forbidden, and doesn't eat what is forbidden.

8) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my eighth enemy is that believer who keeps himself clean all the
time. A person who remains in Wudhu and who wears clean clothes.

9) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my ninth enemy is that person who has a big heart, who spends
his money the sake of Allah.

10) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my tenth enemy is that person who gives charity (Sadaqah) only
in the name of Allah.

11) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my eleventh enemy is that person who reads, memorizes and
acts according to Qur`an.

12) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my twelfth enemy is that person who recites Salaat Al Lail
(prayers recited after midnight and before the Salaat of Fajr). I am always afraid of this person.

13) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my thirteenth enemy is that person who pays his Khums,
Zakaat, and other obligatory Sadaqah.

14) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my fourteenth enemy is that person who observes Hijaab (veil),
and safeguards her Hijaab.

15) Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my fifteenth enemy is he who performs his worship (Ibaadat)
without having any thoughts except for the thoughts of Allah.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, and who are your eleven friends?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my friends are:

1) First, is that leader who is an oppressor.

2) My second friend is that businessman who does his business by deceiving his customers.

3) My third friend is that believer who drinks alcohol.

4) My fourth friend is that rich person who is proud of his wealth and who angrily refuses to give
money in charity to the poor and needy.

5) My fifth friend is that person who does backbiting, who talks in such a way that enmity
increases between the people, and who reveals the defects of people.

6) My sixth friend is that person who kills another human being for any reason other than for
Allah.

7) My seventh friend is that person who snatches away the belongings of an orphan.

8) My eighth friend is that person whose livelihood is based on collecting interest.

9) My ninth friend is that person who gives more importance to his worldly life rather than
giving importance to his life after death. This friend of mine prefers to perform those deeds
which he knows will bring benefits in this world, but in the hereafter, such deeds will bring loss.

10) My tenth friend is that person who keeps long hopes and delays in asking for forgiveness
from Allah.

11) My eleventh friend is that person who helps women increase their interest in performing
magic on people.

These are my eleven friends who are the worst enemies of Allah.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, tell us why you stop my followers from offering their prayers?
What benefit do you get out of it?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Whenever your follower recites prayers, my body gets feverish and it
starts to shiver; and with a sick body I can not deceive your followers from obeying Allah.

Prophet (pbuh): Why do you stop my followers from observing their fasts during the
month of Ramadan?

Shaytan, the cursed one: I can't deceive them during time they fast because I'm thrown into
prison and I can't misguide them.

Prophet (pbuh): When my followers prepare to fight Allah's way, why do you stop them?

Shaytan, the cursed one: When they go to fight for Allah's sake, my hands are tied to my neck,
and I can't deceive them by having my hands tied to my neck.

Prophet (pbuh): Why do you prevent my followers from performing Hajj?

Shaytan, the cursed one: When they go for Hajj, their movement of going towards Hajj ties my
legs. And with my legs tied, I cannot misguide your followers from obeying Allah's commands.
Prophet (pbuh): Why do you prevent my followers from reciting the Holy Qur`an?

Shaytan, the cursed one: When they recite the Holy Qur`an, my existence turns into non-
existence. And without having any existence, how can I deceive your followers from living
according to the will of Allah?

Prophet (pbuh): Why do you prevent my followers from offering Du`a (supplication)?

Shaytan, the cursed one: When they recite Du`a I become deaf and dumb. How can I deceive
your followers without having the ability to speak and the ability to listen.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, tell me why you prevent my followers from paying Sadaqah?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), when your followers pay Sadaqah (giving
money in charity), it is as if I am being cut in two with a saw, and one piece is thrown to the East
and the other piece to the West.

Prophet (pbuh): Why do you get such a strong blow when my followers pay Sadaqah? Why
do you get cut into two pieces?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Whenever a person gives his money in charity, that person receives
three benefits m Allah. The first benefit such a person receives is that Allah becomes his
borrower. The second benefit is that Allah makes Heaven his inheritance (such that he will be
called an owner of Heaven). And the third benefit is that Allah increases his wealth 700 times,
which in turn this person uses the increased wealth for charity.

Prophet (pbuh): Now tell me when does a person who is my follower get under your total
control?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), your follower gets under my total control
when they perform three things. The first thing is that when your follower becomes stingy he
gets under my total control. Stinginess is the root of all sin, which makes a person perform all
types of other sins. The second thing is that when a person starts forgiving his own sins. This
person performs deeds that are against the will of Allah. Then he does not remember them nor
does he ask for forgiveness. At that time he comes under my absolute control. And the third
thing is that when a person gambles.

Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), any person who performs these three deeds falls under my absolute
control.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, you know that Allah has given my followers the strong weapon of
repentance. Whenever my followers ask for true forgiveness with an intention of not
repeating that sin, Allah forgives them. How do you deal with this problem?

Shaytan, the cursed one: I know Oh Prophet (pbuh), Allah has given them this strong weapon,
but I have prepared myself to confront your followers with their strong weapon.
Prophet (pbuh): What method do you have through which you prevent my followers from
asking for forgiveness?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), to deal with this problem I have created
four different units. Each unit deals with a different age group of your followers. In each group I
make your followers perform such deeds which makes their repentance invalid.

Prophet (pbuh): What are these units?

Shaytan, the cursed one: In the first unit I occupy your old men in four sins. I make them lie, I
make them accuse someone of something which they have not done, I make them testify falsely
and I make them perform prayers without having the complete knowledge of the laws of
performing prayers. Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), your old men will be offering du`as and reciting
obligatory prayers; but if you talk to them you will hear them talking bad about other people,
falsely attributing bad deeds to other people without having any knowledge about those people,
and reciting obligatory prayers without knowing all the laws of prayers. Your old men will not
try to learn the laws of prayers because of their pride (ego). Whenever some young men from
your Ummah try to explain the right way of performing Wudhu, your old men will get mad and
say, "You have just entered Islam, and now you are trying to teach us how to perform Wudhu?"

Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my second unit is that which takes care of your young men. I do not
prevent them from reciting prayers, performing Hajj or anything else; except that I lure them into
two things. First, I make them look at things that are forbidden for them; and secondly, I make
them listen to those things that are forbidden for them.

Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my third unit is that which deceives your old women. I entice them
to backbite, to falsely accuse others, to destroy the character of men and women and to perform
magic on the people.

Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), my fourth unit is not active because it is suppose to take care of the
young women of your Ummah. Since all of your young girls are already my soldiers and I have a
strong hold over them, I do not have a hard time deceiving them. However, sometimes I may
find one girl in a thousand that is following your way of life and I will not be able to do anything
to deceive her.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, tell me do you get upset when you see any of your soldiers fleeing
from you and following Allah's commands?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), I do not get upset. I wait until that person
performs any good deed, then I go to that person again and deceive him to believe that he has
done a favor for Allah by performing that good deed.

Prophet (pbuh): You make that person feel that he has done a favor for Allah?
Shaytan, the cursed one: Yes, Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh). That person goes around after
performing a good deed telling people what he has done. Such as, he recited prayers, observed
fasts, paid so much money in charity, or helped someone in their time of need.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, how do you deceive those followers of mine who try their best not
to be deceived by you?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Allah made one deed, which if your followers perform with the right
intention and at the right time, then they can never be deceived me. And that deed is obligatory
prayers. But to solve this problem, what I did was that with every one your followers I have
assigned to them one of my soldiers, whose name is Mutawaqee. And his job is make your
followers procrastinate and to preoccupy them in such activities due to which they will recite
their prayers at the last minute. And when your follow recite their prayers at this time, they recite
it in such a manner that their prayers are not acceptable to Allah.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, since you know so much about Islam and its followers, why don't
you ask Allah for forgiveness?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), Allah does not want me to ask for
forgiveness, so what can I do?

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, I heard that sometimes you feel as if someone has thrown a
heavy stone on your head, which breaks your head into several pieces.

Shaytan, the cursed one: Oh Prophet of Allah (pbuh), yes it is true. Whenever your follower truly
repents to Allah, I feel like that.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, I heard that sometimes you feel as if your body is being cut into
several pieces.

Shaytan, the cursed one: Yes, when your followers go out to fight for the sake of Allah, I feel
like that.

Prophet (pbuh): I heard that sometimes you feel a someone is slapping you.

Prophet (pbuh): When are you thrown to the lowest pit of hell?

relatives.

Prophet (pbuh): I heard that sometimes you feel a great pain in your whole body.

Prophet (pbuh): I heard that sometimes you feel as if someone is whipping you.

Shaytan, the cursed one: Yes, when your follower sees a non Mehram (a girl with whom a man
can marry) and then he immediately casts his eyes down.

Shaytan, the cursed one: Any man who divorces an innocent women.

Prophet (pbuh): Do you have any more friends?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Yes, that person who delays in offering his obligatory prayers.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, where do you stay the most?

Shaytan, the cursed one: A place where non Mehram men and women get together without any
separation or observing Hijaab, that is my place of stay.

Prophet (pbuh): Where do you meet people?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Bazaars (shopping malls); I try to make buyers deceive sellers and
sellers deceive buyers. I also encourage men to do their business with women and women to do
their business with men. I persuade people to all types of sins in bazaars.

Prophet (pbuh): What do you read?

Shaytan, the cursed one: I read songs.

Prophet (pbuh): What is your way of calling people towards committing sins?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Music and songs; whenever your followers listen to music they come
toward me.

Prophet (pbuh): What is your book?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Playing cards are my book.

Prophet (pbuh): Who is your helper?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Any person who contributes to the defeat of your Muslims.

Prophet (pbuh): What do you eat?

Shaytan, the cursed one: I eat everything that is obtained by forbidden earnings or by not paying
khums.

Prophet (pbuh): What do you drink?

Shaytan, the cursed one: I drink alcohol.

Prophet (pbuh): What is your dessert?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Backbiting.

Prophet (pbuh). Do you have any desires?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Every false commitment is my desire.

Prophet (pbuh): Are you thankful for anything?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Yes, I am thankful to those men and women who indulge in sins after
asking Allah for forgiveness.

Prophet (pbuh): Do you relax?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Yes, when your followers miss Fajr (morning) prayers.
Prophet (pbuh): Do you get any rewards from my followers?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Yes, whenever your followers break their relationships with relatives or
neighbors.

Prophet (pbuh): Do you have any companions?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Yes, that person who has sex with his wife without saying "Bismi-llahir
Rahmanir Raheem" and that person whose earnings are through un-Islamic means.

Prophet (pbuh): What deed of my follower makes you angry?

Shaytan, the cursed one: When a mother tries to make her son (or daughter) fast or offer prayers.

Prophet (pbuh): Are there any men among my followers whom you cannot possibly
misguide?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Yes, any man who does not intentionally look at a non-Mehram.

Prophet (pbuh): Are there any women among my followers whom you can't misguide?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Yes, that woman who observes Hijaab and who listens to her husband.

Prophet (pbuh): Shaytan, Out of the men and women you have described, do you have any
special men women that you love the most?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Yes! Among women I love those women who do not observe Hijaab.
And among men, those who are proud and those who are sinful Ulama (religious scholars).

Prophet (pbuh): Which men do you hate the most?

Shaytan, the cursed one: Four Men: The first are humble rich men. The second are Ulama who
practice at they preach. The third are young men who ask for forgiveness. And the fourth are old
men who fear Allah.

Prophet (pbuh): Are you alone or do you have any companions?

Shaytan, the cursed one. Yes, I have some companions who gather at the mosques in order to
deceive its visitors. My companions make the visitors talk about things that give them bad deeds
instead of good deeds. Other companions make your wise followers think of their bad deeds as
few and their good deeds as many. And other companions, when they see someone giving money
in charity or helping someone for the sake of Allah, they entice that person to tell others of his
charity and good deeds.

Then Shaytan, the cursed one said, "O Prophet of Allah (pbuh),. I have talked to you in much
detail. I would like to tell you that you are working towards taking people to heaven and I am
working towards taking people to hell." After this, Shaytan, the cursed one gave Salaams to our
beloved Prophet (pbuh) and disappeared. *****
