PACIOLI SCHOLARS PROGRAM

L
uca Pacioli, the Franciscan Friar who is the namesake for this program, is much more
than the “Father of Accounting.” Woven throughout his description of the double-
entry method of accounting, the first ever published, are his insights on how being a
successful businessperson and a good person can and should be brought together in living an
integrated life.
Following Luca Pacioli’s example, students in the St. Bonaventure University School of
Business receive a state-of-the art education for success in the contemporary business world,
while at the same time being provided with abundant opportunities to develop both the ethi-
cal awareness and sense of personal values that will meaningfully guide their professional
and personal lives. We strive to provide our students with abundant opportunities to develop
and integrate lifelong skills as both outstanding businesspeople and outstanding people, formed and enjoyed within
a characteristically Franciscan context of service to community.
Our Pacioli Scholars program is centered around a learning community designed to provide exceptional stu-
dents with outstanding learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. In the freshman and sopho-
more years, students enroll in at least one class reserved for Pacioli Scholars. Students are also encouraged to par-
ticipate in professional and service activities to prepare for leadership positions. In the junior and senior years, stu-
dents design their own “mentor-to-mentor” activity where the student is mentored by a faculty or staff member in
a leadership role.
The Pacioli Scholar must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and promise, a commitment to serv-
ice, and a willingness to explore and discover. The ideal candidate is gifted, eager to learn, and highly motivated.
Through the program, the Pacioli Scholar will develop skills and knowledge as a business professional, with an
understanding of the importance of service to others, and cultivate a sense of vocation within the spirit of the
Franciscan tradition.
A limited number of Pacioli Scholarships will be awarded each year, in amounts up to $2,500, renewable
throughout the time of the student’s undergraduate enrollment in the School of Business. All students meeting the
eligibility criteria may apply to be admitted to the Pacioli Scholars program.
Eligibility criteria include:
■ High school GPA, minimum of 3.25;
■ SAT, minimum of 1,100 (Math and Verbal sections only) or 24 ACT;
■ Completed Pacioli Scholars application, including:
• an expression of interest in the program;
• a demonstrated record of achievement in service-related activities;
• an essay (minimum of 1,000 words) on the role of service to others for the business professional.
• a letter of recommendation addressing potential to be both an outstanding businessperson and an
outstanding person.
Applications to participate in the Pacioli Scholars program must be received no later than FEBRUARY 11.
Acceptance decisions will be made by the end of February.
Students in the Pacioli Scholars program will be expected to maintain high academic standards while enrolled
in the St. Bonaventure University School of Business, and to engage in designated Pacioli Scholars activities.
