BACKGROUND OF THE MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES AND

TOURISM

Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism [MNRT] is made up of 4

technical departments, 2 supporting Departments and 5 units.

Technical department includes,

- Wildlife Department

- Tourism Department

- Forest and Beekeeping Department

- Antiquities Department

Supporting departments includes,

- Administration Human Resources Management Department

- Policy and Planning Department.

Units are includes,

- Finance and Accounts unit

- Internal Audit unit

- Procurement unit

- Legal unit

- Communication unit

The central role of ministry is to conserve, coordinate, doing research

concerning natural resources such as game reserves, archives,

conserving forests and wild animals.

The vision of Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism is to become a

greater promoter of Tanzanian natural resources and promoting


tourism activities here and abroad in order to build Tanzanian

economy.

The mission of the ministry of Natural resources and tourism is to

protect and sustain the economic, political and social image of the

United Republic of Tanzania

In general sense the Ministry’s vision and operational mission is to

conserve natural, cultural resources and develop tourism for national

prosperity and for the benefit of human kind through:-

Development of appropriate policies, strategies and guidelines;

formulation of laws and regulation; monitoring and evaluation of the

implementation of policies; promotion of high quality tourism business

of local and global communities and development of human resource

and institutional capacity building.

Strategic objectives which include, coordination and reviewing

policies ,developing strategies ;reviewing legislation and monitoring

implementation in order to ensure sustainable conservation of natural

and cultural resources and tourist attraction for the present and

future generations ;to create an enabling environment that will lead

to active participation of all relevant stakeholders ;to under take

human resource development and institutional capacity building to

efficient management of natural and cultural resources and tourism

products to meet the needs of stake holders; to protect illegal use of

cultural, natural and tourism products for the benefit of the present
and future generations; to develop diversity and promote investments

that will create employments; to promote regional and international

cooperation and many others.

The core values of the ministry of natural resources and tourism

are pursuit of excellence in services, loyalty to the government,

diligence, impartiality in services integrity, courtesy to all and respect

for the law. The ministry’s key clients include the general public,

ministries, departments and agencies, NGOs, CBOs and business and

media.
