Movie Review
1. Identify the theme of the movie that has significance to psychiatric nursing?
Justify the theme by citing at least 5 scenes to support your answer?
The theme of the movie is all about the theory of Peplau which is the interpersonal
relationship model. In this theory it shows how the nurse and the client interact to each
other. First at the swan pond in Boston when Sean and will was talking and Sean was
open up to will he was build up rapport to the client. Next was at the house of Sean at
this time will has giving trust to Sean and he opened up to him he was talking to the
girl she likes. And lastly when Gerry and Sean was talking about will that Gerry wants
to use will because he know that will is good in mathematics and he also wants will to
work as a NSA agent but Sean was disagree to his idea for the reason that he know
Will doesn’t know what to do to his life. In this scene it portrayed the last phase of
Peplau theory.

2. Identify the character (protagonist, antagonist) portrayed by the actress and the
significant roles they played for the movie?
The protagonist of the movie was Matt Damon as Will Hunting played as the client who
has a problem that he cannot solve and the person who helps him was Robin Williams
as Sean Maguire. And the antagonist of the movie was Stellan Skarsgard as Gerry
Lambeau who also help but with a condition.

3. Identify the psychiatric disorder exhibited by the character and describing at

least 3 scenes where the disorder was clearly portrayed?
The disorder that portrayed by the character was the anxiety and mood disorder
because there is a scene when Will and Sean was talking that Will was afraid and
hiding something about his past. And there is a time that she gets to easily mad when
he see schoolmate he remind that was the person who bully at him.

4. Identify at least five defense mechanism. Justify by describing the scene or

quoting the lines from the character?
Denial - I don’t need therapy
Rationalism – he just sat there counting the second that proves he doesn’t have to
talk to me if he doesn’t want.
Suppression - he doesn’t say that he is in the orphan and he also lie that he has a 13
siblings.
Displacement – rather to hit the girl he hit the wall.
Isolation - Sean wants to be alone or aloof to the people.

5. Identify at least 3 quotations and explain the significance of the script to the
dialogue of the character? Identify the therapeutic or non therapeutic and
describe the technique used?
Giving information - I’m Gerald Lambeau
Disapproving – maybe you should watch your mouth
Exploring\accepting – I thought what you said to me
Disagreeing – your just a kid you don’t have fainted idea
Accepting – hmm ok
6. Is the title appropriate? If yes explain its impact to psychiatric nursing and the
-regular viewers? If no please suggest a new title and explain its relationship to
psychiatric nursing?
For me it’s a yes because the movie evolved to the story of the protagonist Will on how
he resolve his problem.

7. If you were the director what scene will you improve or delete? How will you
improve the scenes or what changes would o like to excrete?
If I have a chance to improve the scene I will change the last part since at the end it
doesn’t show if Will happen to him if he was succeed or failed on what he was choose

8. What moral lesson could you get from the movie and how do you apply it in the
psychiatric setting?
The moral lesson of the story is all about the caring to our client because we see the
difference of the two people there who is willing to help because he wants to and the
other one he help because there is something that he can get to that person. “ we help
the person because we want to not to help because of the prize that we take to them.

9. Can you recommend the movie for the future review? If yes please state you’re
your recommendation? If no why?
For me it’s a yes because in the movie it give us idea about on how we handle our
client if we are sincerely or not on caring to them it also. And also to enlighten the
others people who doesn’t know to their situation
