Steering Committee Meeting


Monday, December 13, 2010

In attendance: John, Alison, Cassie, Julia, Mary Beth

1. General Check- in and Steering updates


- ‘soft membership request’ from committee members (will help b/c we can
say we have ‘x’ amount of members)
- work on by-laws and incorporation before membership campaign -sub-
committee from steering and legal/finance
- can we get business students to do our feasibility study? (i.e. Wharton)
- by-laws first, then board creation
- rough draft of by-laws by last week of January----John, Mary Beth and Alison
will meet at Alison’s house at 6:30 on December 27th – B Corporation
2. Subcommittee update
a. Outreach:
i. civic association presentations will begin in January
b. Legal/Finance:
i. maps from survey data show gaps in data from west of Broad
ii. Legal/Finance will report bank statements to Steering every two
months unless there is a month of high activity
iii. letters: ‘soft membership’ letter will be given to active committee
members to give donations. We may include a few simple survey
questions on it

c. Any response to membership structure?


i. some feedback that working was not worth it for someone who was
a member at a different co-op

3. Presentation and Vote: Incorporation recommendation from Legal/Finance


a. incorporate and write by-laws

4. P’unk Ave and logo design– Any update on Geoff D. coming to a Steering
Meeting?
a. invite him for January 10th

5. “Fall” Membership meeting – Subcommittee recommends that we postpone


until the first day of Spring (March 21) but start planning now
a. will be postponed

6. Loose ends
a. Membership structure, equity amount ($200 as a starter amount)
b. Sunday night event at Philadelphia Wellness Center (12th and Carpenter)
once a month?
i. movies, discussion, classes?
ii. get people involved who don’t have time for a committee?
(Education committee?) Have them start to pull together possible
people to present.
c. Next up: Fundraisers and Feasibility Study!
i. talk to Wharton students for a feasibility study?
ii. Wharton Community Consultants
iii. grants? BIDs?
iv. Shop Local campaign with small businesses in the area
v. ask civics about how to ask for donations when we present
vi. create partnerships and a database of contacts
d. Co-op Case Studies: Jan 10th and Jan 24th
e. next meeting: Mary Beth’s 1526 S. Camac St
