INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM FOR FOREIGN GRADUATE STUDENTS
WITH SCHOLARSHIPS
2. Scholarships (expected)
Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship for 9 Master’s or Doctoral candidates entering in
September 2011 (MEXT stands for Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and
Technology)
This scholarship is awarded for foreign students who are accepted to International Graduate
Program (Master’s and Doctoral Program) after entrance examination (AO method). This
Scholarship provides monthly allowance of 158,000 Yen for two years, Screening fees
(refunded after enrollment), Tuition Fees and a round trip air ticket to Japan.
Asia Special Scholarship for 6 Master’s or Doctoral candidates entering in September 2011
This scholarship is awarded for students who are accepted to International Graduate
Program (Master’s and Doctoral Program) after entrance examination (AO method).
Students must be nationals of Asian countries excluding Japan (refer to the “List of
Participating Countries for Asia Special Scholarship”), and must apply for this program from
overseas. After enrollment, students are provided 150,000 Yen as a round trip air ticket to
Japan, Tuition Fees and monthly allowance of 200,000 Yen for two years in Master’s program,
three years in Doctoral program at a maximum.
3. Applications
○How to apply for Scholarships
Applicants for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship or Asia Special Scholarship should
submit the following documents by January 7, 2011.
1. Completed application form.
2. For a doctor’s course, an official transcript showing the applicant's academic
performance from both an undergraduate and a master's course.
For a master’s course, an official transcript showing the applicant's academic
performance from an undergraduate course.
3. Two confidential recommendation letters in the specific form.
Each letter should be in a sealed envelope with signature of the recommender
over the flap of envelope and should be sent to the Faculty of Science and
Engineering directly.

After document screening, the result of selection will be notified to the selected applicants for
the scholarship by the beginning of February 2011. The prospective recipients will be asked to
apply for the “Admission to International Graduate Program”. Those students who want the
enrollment of September 2011 must submit necessary documents by the end of March.
Master’s Program: Applicants who have completed their standard elementary and secondary
school education overseas or in Japan, and graduated from higher education institutions or
equivalent outside Japan. However, applicants who have completed a degree program where
degree can be obtained by taking courses in English only at a university in Japan are also
eligible to apply.
Doctoral Program: Applicants who have been educated and conferred a Master’s Degree or
equivalent in countries other than Japan. However, applicants who have completed a
Master’s Degree program where degree can be obtained by taking courses in English only at a
university in Japan are also eligible to apply.
・Application Period:
For September 2011: January 11 (Tuesday)- June 10, 2011 (Friday)
*Please note that prospective recipients of Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship or
Asia Special Scholarship are required to complete application by the end of March, 2011.
・Selection Procedure
Selection will be conducted based on the documents. The result will be notified to the
applicant within about one month after application. The selected applicants will be asked to
take procedures according to the admission documents that we will send later.

4. Others
In addition, similar scholarship programs are offered through Japanese Embassy, which are
not restricted to the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University. Interested
person can contact with Japanese Embassy in his/her home country.
