South Western High School


Spring
7011 Aerobic Walk Club
Students will participate in a fast-paced walk on the school track. All members are required to
bring appropriate attire for outdoor walking in all types of weather. PLEASE CHECK
ROSTER POSTED IN THE MAIN LOBBY FOR ROOM ASSIGNMENTS.

7014 Acoustic Guitar Club


This club is intended for students who are interested in learning fingerstyle techniques, jazz
principles, guitar composition strategies, and fretboard (scales) knowledge. Students in the club
should already know home position chords and basic major scales. Prospective students should
prepare two pieces for audition. Sorry, only acoustic guitars are permitted. ROOM 404

7147 AP World History Club


This seminar will provide AP students the ability to discuss and interact with each other as part
of their preparation for the AP exam. All AP World History students are encouraged to take this
club but it is not required. ROOM 308

7013 Band Leadership Club


This club is designed for current band students who are currently serving in a leadership role or
are interested in being in leadership in the future. Meeting will be used to plan for events during
the year as well as developing team building and leadership characteristics in participants.

7010 Baseball Club


The primary objective of this club will be to provide students who enjoy the game of baseball an
opportunity to get together and “talk baseball”. The club will be actively involved in a variety of
activities. Some of these activities may include: open discussions of “HOT” topics surrounding
baseball, watching baseball games and instructional videos, weekly wiffleball games, field
maintenance and fund raising projects. Students must see Mr. Resetar for pre-approval into

7120 Basketball Club


This club is for students who would like to participate in basketball. Sneakers and comfortable
clothing are required. Activity is required. GYM 3

7033 Board Game Club


Want to challenge your brain and have fun with your friends at the same time? Join the board
games club and stretch your mind. We’ll be focusing on word and verbal games. PLEASE

7017 Bookworms Club


Students will spend the period reading for pleasure a book of their choosing. Club members will
need to come prepared with a book. Students will present a book of their choosing to the group
during each marking period. ROOM 411
7138 Brainiacs Puzzle Club
This club is for those inquiring minds who like to solve logic puzzles. If you like Rubik’s cubes,
you’ll love this club. ROOM 603

7016 Chess Club


Students will play chess on a regular basis and participate in a chess tournament. Students who
wish to learn the game may also select this club. CAFÉ BY 400 HALL

7150 Chick Flick Movie Club


Do you like movies where there is always a happy ending? Do you like to watch movies that
make you cry? Do you like movies with good looking people in them? Then this is the club for
you. We will make a list of videos that are truly good and then watch them each week. A good
time will be had by all and don’t forget to bring a box of tissues. PLEASE CHECK ROSTER

7140 Diversity Club


Club members will be planning days related to student awareness for classmates. In addition,
we’ll use current events as springboards for discussions about various social justice issues.
Anyone who is interested in creating a safe place and supportive environment at SW is welcome.
Participants must be willing to research and discuss issues. ROOM 510

7072 Edutainment Club


Are you ready for a club that offers both variety and a challenge? Read popular magazines, surf
the Internet, play online games, play classic card games, or participate in a board or table game.

7069 Emergency Services Club


The Emergency Services Club will further educate
it’s participants in emergency medical care and firefighting. Training in hazmat, ropes,
extrication, blood-born pathogens, first responder, and equipment will be offered. Both
classroom time and lab experience will lead to certification credits. These classes will be taught
by certified guest instructors. Interested students should currently be volunteering or working
with a local fire or EMS agency, or have a legitimate interest in the emergency field. ROOM

7151 Fantasy Sport Club


In this club, students will participate in various fantasy sports throughout the year. Members will
look at draft strategies and learn how to manage a team budget from an owner’s viewpoint.
Members should have an interest in football, basketball, baseball, and other fantasy sports.

7037 FBLA Club (Future Business Leaders of America)
Are you interested in business? Are you interested in leadership? Join the FBLA club and
become a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. Club members will discuss
business concepts and techniques, work with competitive events, develop business relationships
within the community, and much more. Let’s Break Barriers this year! Join FBLA! ROOM 209

7022 First Priority Club


This is a student led Bible based study group in which Christian principles and perspectives are
studies and discussed. Members create lessons while Senor Wolfe and Ms. Pilarcik assist in
facilitating the discussion and interaction. The singing of praise songs is an integral part of our
witness to The Lord. ROOM 505

7121 Football Club


This club is designed for the football players at SWHS. The activities the members of this club
will be involved in will vary. They include: viewing and breaking down game film, learning
offensive, defensive, and game planning strategies and general discussions of topics in football.
To select this club you must have permission from Mr. Poalucci. PLEASE CHECK

7153 Future Teachers Club


This club is for those students that may be interested in pursuing teaching as their career choice.
Members will be encouraged to participate as peer tutors during period 5 each week. Questions
about the teaching profession will be discussed. If possible, visitations will be arranged for
members to visit elementary, middle, and secondary classroom within the district. ROOM 104

7154 Geocaching Club


This a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache in the
world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocache’s existence and
location online. Anyone with a GPS device can then try to locate the geocache. Club members
will make, hide, and find geocaches on a weekly basis and should be prepared to go outside
throughout the year. ROOM 602

7162 Gleek Club


The club will watch and discuss episodes of Glee (season 1 and 2). The club will discuss the
social impact and connections to our society. Glee is a musical comedy-drama television series
that airs on Fox in the United States. It focuses on the high school glee club, New Directions
competing on the show choir competition circuit, while its members deal with relationship and
social issues. ROOM 303

7108 Golf Club


This club is designed for the golf enthusiast. The group will watch instructional videos, discuss
the swing and possibly even hit some balls. If desired the club may participate in a fantasy golf
league. Students must seek pre-approval for club from Mr. Miller. Students also need to have
access to golf clubs when necessary. ROOM 207
7047 Green Action Club
This club will work to analyze and improve South Western School District’s environmental
footprint. Through various activities during and outside of school hours, club members will have
the opportunity to make a difference and encourage environmentally responsible decision
making in their community. PAC

7163 Harry Potter Appreciation Club


Students will be given the opportunity to read the books, watch and discuss the movies, partake
in online trivia and activities, and even play wizard chess or other games that pertain to Harry
Potter. Student may even indulge in some Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans …. If they dare.
Meet me at platform 9 ¾ (Room 608). Bring your wands and cast some spells. Accio Harry

7155 Hearts and Spades Club


Students will discuss strategies and play the two card games, hearts and spades. This club is
open to players of all levels, beginners to the advance player. ROOM 108

7156 Hemp Jewelry for the Military


This club makes jewelry out of a variety of materials and then we will donate them to the
military. No jewelry making experience is necessary, and there is no fee for this club. ROOM

7054 History Through the Movies


This club will take a look at events in American History through the eyes of Hollywood motion
pictures. During the course of the year we will study the major events in U.S. History and see
how they were interpreted by Hollywood films. Were they accurate and entertaining? …. You
be the judge. (Gr. 11 and 12) ROOM 304

7157 Indoor Field Hockey Club


Students will play indoor field hockey in one section of the gym. Students will also participate
in a training program. This will rotate on an every other week basis. Students should have an
interest in field hockey. GYM 2

7158 International Film Club


This club is for students who are interested in watching foreign movies in their original language.
The movies will all have subtitles so that students can understand and enjoy. Come improve
your language skills and watch movies in another language. (Gr. 9-12) ROOM 502

7109 Journalism Club


The journalism club is geared toward students who wish to make a difference in our school by
informing the student body about issues, events, and activities that impact them. Members of the
club will create and maintain a student news website that will be available to students, staff,
parents, and the community 24/7. ROOM 412
7160 Life According to Homer Club
Sometimes the best picture of life in America can be taken from its popular forms of
entertainment. Taken directly from college campus4es, this club is a look at the Simpsons as a
commentary on life in America today. We will watch an episode of the Simpsons and then
figure out what the writers are trying to say. We will see the progression from a show based on
simple entertainment to a powerful tool influencing society. ROOM 302

7141 Miniature Wargaming Club


Students will participate in a number of games such as: Star Wars Miniatures, Dungeons and
Dragons Miniatures, Heroclix, Magic: The Gathering, etc. Participation in a game is mandatory
during each club period. ROOM 206

7021 Mustang Depot (School Store) Club


The Mustang Depot is home to Mustang Pride. The goal of the Mustang Depot Club is to foster
Mustang Spirit through the designing, marketing, and selling of items that student’s actively
participate in creating. We are looking for students that have Mustang Pride and want to
continue to promote SW as the best. CAFÉ BY SCHOOL STORE

7050 National Art Honor Society


The National Art Honor Society/Art Club is for students in grades 9-12. You do not need to be
enrolled in an art class, but very helpful to be interested in art. NAHS is interested in enhancing
the students’ perspective of the world of art through creative projects, unique fundraising
projects, visiting museums, art shows and field trips. ROOM 506

7161 Outdoor/Conservation Club


The OCC will explore various conservation organizations and opportunities both nationally and
locally. Development has stressed many wildlife populations to a level that requires increased
cooperation between hunting, fishing, wildlife officials, and protection organizations. We will
be researching possible action plans that can be accomplished as a group or individually to
further advance the idea of conservation in our time. ROOM 203

7164 Philly Sports Fan Club


This club is for anyone who is a sports fan of any and all Philadelphia Sports Teams. This
includes the Phillies, Eagles, Sixers, Flyers, etc… We can watch and discuss any sports related
issues involving our favorite teams. ROOM 700

7024 Phoenix Club


If you’d like to help out with selection and construction of the Phoenix, this club is for you.
Members will be expected to submit art and/or literature pieces regularly for review. Members
will also be expected to evaluate and critique the work of their peers. All members must get
signed permission from Miss Alric to be a part of this club. ROOM 410
7102 Poker Club with a Twist of Math
This club will run primarily as a poker tournament. Students will be able to pick their method of
play (i.e. Texas hold-em, 5 Stud, etc.). The start of each club period will include a no more than
5 minute lesson on some of the mathematics behind poker. This will allow you to understand the
game better and improve your playing skills. If you are interested in playing, or would like to
learn to play this club is for you. Get ready to put your poker faces on. ROOM 109

7063 Prom Planning Club


Open to eleventh grade students who are interested in helping to plan for the 2011 Senior Class
prom. (Grade 11 only) ROOM 202

7165 SAT Math Prep Club


Want to do better on the mathematics portion of the SAT? Join the Math SAT Prep Club to learn
strategies for solving problems on standardized tests. (Gr. 10 through 12) ROOM 102. Students
in 10th grade must be currently enrolled in Algebra II or must have completed Algebra II.

7114 Scrapbooking Club


Students will be working on projects and arranging pictures in a quality scrapbook or portfolio to
prepare themselves for job interviews, family events, journaling of school days, special events in
their life, etc. This can be completed by traditional scrapbooking or digital scrapbooking. It will
help the students express and cherish their memories for a long time to come. Beginning to
advanced level scrapbookers may join. ROOM 208

7144 Sew Special Club


This “hands-on” club will allow you to use your creativity and develop skill in using a sewing
machine, and/or embroidery machine. You can make items for yourself, gifts for Christmas or
earn community service hours sewing for others. ROOM 512

7131 Soapfest Drama Club


This club is for any student who is interested in high school theatre. Students will participate in
improvisation exercises and may examine other acting techniques. Students may also be asked
to participate in publicity or preparing the set or props for upcoming shows. Participation is
mandatory. ROOM 400

7166 Stock Market Club


This club will expose students to the basics of investing and stock trading. Students will gain an
understanding of economic issues, market conditions, business news, and the fundamentals of
good investing. Participants in a stock simulation will have an opportunity to invest a virtual
$100,000.00, buying, selling, and vying for the title of top stock market tycoon. This club is
designed to provide an educational experience, a chance to get to know other students with
similar interest, and the opportunity to participate in a fun game of investing. ROOM 311

7136 Student Council Club


This club is for elected members of student council who are not in key club (or other clubs).

7061 Student Trainer’s Club
Available only to students serving as a Student Athletic Trainer for a district athletic team. Time
will be used to learn concepts and practice skills. You must have permission from Mrs.
Flaherty to select this club. TRAINING ROOM

7167 Track & Field Club


This club is for those individuals that are interested in gaining knowledge, understanding and
experience in various events of Track & Field. Activities that could take place during this time
period could include; watching and analyzing instructional videos pertaining to various track &
field events, discussing and practicing techniques and drills for various events and/or discussing
any aspect of track & field. ROOM S4

7081 Ultimate Frisbee


This is a fast-pace game that requires speed and agility. It is similar to soccer and lacrosse in
style, and demands athletic ability. All games will be played outside, so sneakers and
appropriate attire are recommended. When the weather is inappropriate, we will watch sports
center or sports on TV. ROOM 609

7117 Wood Carving Club


Students will learn and practice the basics of Wood Carvings. From simple wooden spoons to
ornate sculptures, learn the “tricks” of the “trade”. Students who wish to participate in this club
must be self motivated and willing to learn. To join students must have taken or be taking Wood

7168 Writing Club


Students can work on their own writing as well as sharing and receiving input from their peers.
