WLC – Dr.

Rast – GERMAN 2

FINAL PROJECT AND PRESENTATION

Instead of a sit-down final, you have to prepare a presentation in German using the
language you have learned in class – Chapters 1-8 (i.e. you cannot write a text in
English and have it translated by a translation program. First, these programs do not
translate correctly, second, it does not reflect your knowledge of German). You will have
to turn in the script one week prior to the week of the finals (January 12-16, 2004) and
present your project during the week of the finals.

Suggested Content:

a. You go shopping for clothes. You talk to a friend and/or a sales person. Use the
sentences and vocabulary from chapter 7 especially.

b. Travel plans (where do you want to travel, why? Describe the place and the
weather)

c. You talk to a friend about your birthday and your birthday party (chapter 8)

d. You go to a restaurant. You discuss with a friend the menu, you order and pay
and so on (chapter 6)

e. You are not limited to these two topics, but you have to check with me if you
want to do something else.

Presentation:

a. You have to have a VISUAL COMPONENT as part of your presentation. For

example, you prepare a photo album with all the members of your family, you
label them and specific characteristics. Or make a restaurant menu; or you provide
photos from a trip you made. The visual component can also be satisfied by a
Powerpoint presentation or a Video.

b. The presentation needs to be at least 3 minutes long. If you work with a partner,
the length of the presentation needs to be 6 minutes. Both of you have to speak an
equal amount of time.
Due Dates:

a. Written Script
(returned to you with corrections
and suggestions for improvement) January 7, 2004

b. In-Class Presentation January 12-14, 2004

Grading Criteria:

a. Quality of the Presentation 20%

(You should aim for a lively and
articulate presentation)

b. Visuals 20%
(You visuals need to relate to the text
you are presenting. Point to your visuals
while you present)

c. Difficulty and appropriateness of language 20%

(You should make use of the sample sentences
-- chapters E, 1-4 -- I prepared for you in order
to write and speak correct and idiomatic German.

d. Pronunciation 20%
(speak slowly and pronounce every word
audibly and clearly)

e. Grammatical correctness 10%

(consult my handout with the sample sentences
as well as the book to assure the usage of correct
German)

f. Coherence of Project 10%

(your project needs to be coherent, not just a random
compilation of German sentences)
