Composite materials in LS-DYNA have been enhanced to improve the capabilities for crash worthiness simulations of shell type structures. Several damage type models have been considered and modified. A closer look at the complexity of the crushing behaviour of composite shell structures in the case of large deformations reveals the merits and the limits of any continuum material model for general applications.
