[Council of Catholic Women]
Did you know that the CCW is an Inter-
national Catholic Women's organiza-
tion? Yes, Catholic women are organ-
ized and working to raise funds to help
alleviate pain and suffering for families
(especially women and children) throughout the world.
We are all connected to one another in the body of
Christ. All branches seek the protection and guidance of
Our Lady of Good Counsel. Our Lady of Fatima, Alcoa,
TN, is but one branch on this large tree. Most of the
funds we raise go to local charities and to help support
needs in our own parish. But we, as a charitable organi-
zation have been supplying funds to Catholic Relief Ser-
vices [CRS] for years, for a Project called "Water For
Life". "Water For Life," as its name implies, has more
than one meaning. First, is that its intention is to bring
drinkable water to poverty stricken African nations to
have for life; and, the second, is so that they may have
life! Through no fault of their own there are many poor
and starved countries throughout this world, but most
are located in sub-Saharan Africa, where making mud
pies to eat is not even an option because there is no
water to make them with and the soil has absolutely no
nutrition to raise crops, never mind to eat. It is hard for
us to get our minds around this degree of poverty.
On the 3rd Thursday of every month the CCW meet at 7
PM in the Social Hall. We have done everything, includ-
ing standing on our heads [Yoga class], to try to get you
to want to come to the meetings, so that you too can join
in this privileged work of doing unto others as if Christ
was standing right there. Is He not? Come and listen!
Mark your calendars for July 16th as Our Lady of Fatima
welcomes Dr Scott Hahn to our parish. He will be giv-
ing two or three talks and will answer questions. Dr Hahn
is a Professor of Scripture and Theology at Franciscan
University in Steubenville Ohio and a convert to the
Catholic Faith. He is an accomplished writer and speaker
and will be helping us to understand and grow in our faith.
The Spiritual Life committee is working on plans for the
day but we will need many volunteers to help us collect
tickets, sell books, assist with refreshments and act as
guides during breaks. Please pray and consider how you
may be able to help us make Dr. Hahn feel welcome. The
next Spiritual Life committee will be on Jan 4th at 6:30 in
