Serial Number Units Built November 29, 2010 thru January 6, 2011 (1K290XXXXXX thru 1A061XXXXXX).
Range Affected:
Engine Model Kohler Courage SV Twin Cylinder Engines.
Affected:
Engine Serial Units With Serial Numbers Range 4032604243 to 4100505053.
Number Range:
PURPOSE: Remove and replace the six (6) screws (KH-M-645016-S) M6 x 1.0 x 16 Hex Flange Screws shown
below that retain the Control Bracket & Backing Plate to the engine block. See Figures 1 & 2.

ACTION REQUIRED: If you were contacted by the MTD Customer Support Center staff, notifying you that our
records show that you were shipped inventory of the above Cub Cadet units with the affected Kohler Engines listed
above, please follow the rework instructions attached with this Service Advisory. The quantity of parts needed per
the number of units per dealership will be sent at No Charge from the MTD Shelby Parts Depot to the affected Cub
Cadet Dealers.
Warranty: Normal warranty terms apply. Indicate Service Advisory CC-702 and KH-M-645016-S as the original
failed part on the claim. Repair time allowance is 0.8 Hrs.

TOOLS REQUIRED;
NOTE: Hand Tools Only For Screw Removal
NOTE: * Should a screw breakage occur, the remains of the screw still in the engine will need to be center
punched and drilled to an approximate depth of ¼ in. using a 7/64 Cobalt drill bit. A suitably sized #2
EZ OUT extraction tool may then be used to remove the screw fragment. Replace broken screws with
new, part number KH-M-645016-S
• Identify and record Kohler engine model, spec. and serial number
• Disconnect the negative battery cable from the negative battery terminal, (If connected)
• Open tractor hood if applicable and secure
• Disconnect electrical connector for head lamps
• Remove and secure tractor hood if applicable
• REWORK- STEP 1
Lower Control
Panel Screws
• Using a 10mm wrench/socket, remove two accessible control panel screws (one per side)
• Discard old screws
• Replace two accessible control panel screws (one per side) with new screws, Part Number
KH-M-645016-S and torque to 65 in. lbs.
• Using a 10mm wrench, remove two plastiscrews from blower housing at rear of engine below the air filter
cover
• LTX Tractors only-Using a 10mm socket, 8 in. extension and a universal joint, remove four screws
securing fuel tank bracket to tractor
• LTX Tractors only-Remove fuel tank bracket-Fuel tank may remain connected and in place
• Using a 10mm wrench, remove two plastic screws from blower housing at rear of engine below the air
filter cover
• Using a 10mm socket, remove the two plastiscrews securing the fuel pump to the blower housing
• Fuel pump and lines may stay connected but fuel pump may be disconnected from pulse line at valve
cover
• Using an 8mm socket, remove the 4 remaining steel bolts securing the blower housing to the engine
• Remove engine blower housing completely from engine
• LTX Tractors only-Lift fuel tank slightly to allow removal of blower housing
• Remove (snap fitment) inner plastic flywheel screen
• Using an 8mm socket and 8 in. extension, remove 4 bolts securing ignition modules to engine
• Modules may stay connected electrically and placed to the side
• Lock flywheel in place by use of flywheel lock or strap wrench
• Using a 13mm socket and 8 in. extension, remove (counterclockwise) flywheel bolt and washer
• Disengage flywheel fan drive pins and remove flywheel cooling fan
• Using a suitable flywheel puller, remove flywheel
• Locate and retain flywheel woodruff key for later use
• Using a 10mm socket, remove 4 steel screws securing backing plate to engine
• Discard old screws
• Leave backing plate in place and replace 4 steel screws with new screws, Part Number KH-M-645016-S
• Torque 4 new screws to 65 in. lbs.
• Clean and dry flywheel taper areas and reinstall flywheel and cooling fan
• Insure flywheel key is reinstalled and in place
• Insure cooling fan drive pins are engaged fully
• Hand start flywheel bolt
• Using 13mm socket, torque flywheel bolt to 55 ft. lbs.
• Snap on inner plastic flywheel screen
• Using 8mm socket, reinstall 4 steel ignition module screws
• Using suitable feeler gauge, set ignition module air gap to 0.011 / 0.013
• Torque ignition module screws to 45 in. lbs.
• Insure ignition modules are connected electrically
• Verify proper electrical connections have been maintained to ignition modules (White electrical ground
to kill leads connected) prior to reinstallation of blower housing
• Remove battery protective caps and temporarily connect battery
