SELECTION,RECRUITMENT AND ASSIGNMENT OF FACULTY MEMBERS

Faculty Qualifications and Requirements:

1. Faculty shall have academic preparation appropriate to his/her teaching


assignment.

A Filipino citizen and with good moral character

As used in the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Examiners for Nurses, the
term faculty refers to those nurses or other personnel who devote the major portion
of their time to teaching and supervising student nurses, formulating and
developing educational policies and programs and assisting in the administration of
the school.

 For faculty members teaching professional course:

 1. Dean, Director or Principal

 a. Be a holder of a master’s degree in nursing with the exception of those


specified by the Nursing Law;

 b. Have at least three (3) years of acceptable experience in teaching and


supervision in schools, colleges or institute of nursing.

 c. Be a Registered Nurse

 d. Be a Filipino Citizen

2. Instructor in clinical nursing course

a. Registered Nurse in the Philippines with current/valid PRC ID.

b. Holder of masters degree in nursing(MAN,MN,MSN).

c. At least 1 year clinical experience.

d. A member of accredited professional nursing

organization of good standing

3. Instructor in Public Health Nursing

a. Be a holder of a bachelor’s degree in nursing, a major in public health nursing,


and a holder of a certificate in teaching public health nursing;

b. Have had at least one year of acceptable experience in public health nursing; and

c. Be a registered nurse
 For faculty members teaching other courses

 a. A master’s degree holder on other allied medical and

 health sciences as specified under CMO section 4.3

 b. A master’s degree holder in their area of specialization

 and should only teach courses in their area of

 specialization.

Faculty Qualifications and Requirements:

1When vacancies occur in the teaching force of the college during the school
year, substitute or replacement with similar or higher qualifications shall be
employed.

2. The following conditions for employment must be observed:

aThe salary of faculty shall be commensurate to his/her academic rank.

b. Full-time faculty members who teaches professional courses shall be


responsible for both classroom and Related Learning Experience (RLE’s)

3. Faculty member should have a duly notarized employment contract of at


least 1 academic year, renewable annually specifying academic rank in
accordance with his training or clinical expertise.

4. Based on the BSN Program. Two (2) sections of not more than 50 students
will have a minimum of four (4)qualified faculty members, in which 2 (two) of
them must be at least holders of a master’s degree in nursing.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PLAN


Planning For Success
What is FDP?

It is a “blueprint” describing a faculty members proposed professional


activities, self assessment, interest, opportunities and areas to improve.

It is the faculty member activities and accomplishments

 College of nursing shall have an updated five year development plan.

 FDP consists of written activities and programs toward the development of


the faculty for intellectual, personal, and professional as well moral
and spiritual growth.

 The program maybe in the form of:

a. Graduate studies

b. Scholarship and research grants

c. In-service and continuing training programs

d. Clinical skills enhancement on official basis for at least two weeks per year.

Faculty Teaching Load and Salary Remuneration

 A. Teaching Load

 The teaching load of faculty members should be as follows:

 a. Full time faculty members may carry a combined RLE and teaching
load of not more than thirty-six (36) units per semester which include
consultation hours and other activities related to RLE instruction, research
and extension services. One hour RLE supervision is equivalent to
one (1) unit credit.


 The hours of Teaching for a member of the nursing faculty should not exceed
fifteen (15) hours a week and as to the administrator of the nursing school;
her teaching load should not exceed six (6) hours of lecture a week.

Benefits, Retirement and Separation

 Each staff are entitled for a benefits which depends on the institutions
policies and guidelines.

 Vacation leave, Sick leave, Birthday leave, Maternity/Paternity, Holiday Pays


and Study leave.

RETIREMENT

 All personnel may be retired from service upon reaching the age of
sixty(60).

 Separation from the service by retirement shall be based on the labor code
and the existing policies of the school and/or retirement plan.

Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers

Pursuant to the provisions of Article II, of RA No.7836, otherwise known as the


“Philippines Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994 and paragraph (a), section 6,
PD No. 223, as amended, the Board of Professional Teachers hereby adopts and
promulgates the following “Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers”.
Article V (The Teacher And The Teaching Community)

Section 1. Teachers shall at all times, be imbued with the spirit of professional
loyalty, mutual confidence, and faith in one another, self-sacrifice for the common
good, and full cooperation with colleagues. When the best interest of the learners,
the school, or the profession is at stake in any controversy, teachers shall support
one another.

Section 4. A teacher shall hold inviolate all confidential information concerning


associates and the school, and shall not divulge to anyone documents which have
not been officially released, or remove records from files without official permission.

Section 5. It shall be the responsibility for every teacher to seek correctives for what
may appear to be unprofessional and unethical conduct of any associate. This may
be done only if there is incontrovertible evidence for such conduct.

Section 6. A teacher may submit to the proper authorities any justifiable criticism
against an associate preferably in writing, without violating any right of the
individual concerned.

Article IX The Teacher and Parents

Section 1. A teacher shall establish and maintain cordial relations with parents, and
shall conduct himself to merit their confidence and respect.

Section 2. A teacher shall inform parents, through proper authorities, of the


progress or deficiencies of learners under him, exercising utmost candor and tact in
pointing out learners’ deficiencies and in seeking parent’s cooperation for the
proper guidance and improvement of learners.

Section 3. A teacher shall hear parent’s complaints with sympathy and


understanding & shall discourage unfair criticism.

Article X (The Teacher and Business)

Section 1. A teacher has a right to engage, directly or indirectly, in legitimate


income generation, provided that it does not relate to or adversely affect his work.

Section 2. A teacher shall maintain a good reputation with respect to financial


matters such as in the settlement of his just debts, loans and other financial affairs.

Section 3. No teacher shall act directly or indirectly, as agent of any commercial


venture which furnishes textbooks and other school commodities in the purchase or
disposal of which he can exercise official influence, except only when his
assignment is inherently related to such purchase and disposal, provided that such
shall be in accordance with existing regulations.

Article XI (The Teacher as a Person)

Section 1. A teacher shall live with dignity in all places at all times.

Section 2. A teacher shall place premium upon self-respect and self-discipline as the
principle of personal behavior in all relationships with others and in all situations.
