The Perils of Replacement Theology

Part 1#
Replacement Theology is the view that because Israel rejected her
Messiah, God has replaced her with the Christian Church & is finished with
Israel. It supposes that the Church is Israel & that only Christians can be called
Israel, because they are called “Spiritual Israel”. For this view to be maintained
certain facts must be ignored. There are also some inherent problems & even
hazards with this view.

1stly: For the view of Replacement Theology to

be maintained certain facts must be ignored
(I) God Himself said that only IF man could measure the whole of the heavens as
well as all of the foundations of the earth underneath – only then will He cast off
the seed of Israel for all that they have done (Jeremiah 31:36-37).

Was Jeremiah a prophet to the literal nation of Israel in his day? (Yes / No).

If he was, then how can he be speaking of the Church?

He was referring to the Literal Israel from the Old Testament onwards. Otherwise this
verse makes no sense.

(II) God promised to preserve the generation / race of the Jews (Matthew 24: 32-
35).
The word translated as “generation” can also be translated as “race”
according to the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible(Greek 1074
derived from 1085). Even in English usage the word Generation has a few different
uses of meaning. A) a whole body of individuals born about the same time (rising
generation); B) The age or average lifetime of a generation in terms of years
(commonly thirty) accepted as the average difference of age between one generation
of a family and the next. One of the other meanings in this same Macquarie
Dictionary (3rd edition) is, “the offspring of a given parent or parents…”.
God promised to preserve the nation of the Jews. It is obvious from the context
of Matthew 24 that all the prophecies of the scriptures have not already been
fulfilled so therefore it would be referring in this instance to the race of the Jews.
(See also Luke 3:7-8; 7:31; 9:41; 11:29;Acts 2:40). Israel will exist also in eternity
& will never pass away. The end of the world is at least after the millennial reign
of Jesus Christ upon the earth.

(III) Peter described the unbelieving Jews as “this untoward Generation” in

(Acts 2:39-41). By using the word “untoward” he was meaning that the nation of
Israel as a whole is now unrepentant.

Qn) IF Israel has been replaced by the church then was it the early church which
he described as not having a heart towards God?
UNSAVED JEWS AS WELL AS UNSAVED GENTILES, NEED THE 2ND
BIRTH! BEING A BLOODLINE JEW / ISRAELITE NEVER MEANT THAT
ONE AUTOMATICALLY WENT TO PARADISE (HEAVEN). A JEW STILL
HAD TO BE SAVED / JUSTIFIED BY FAITH ALONE IN THE MESSIAH WHO
HAD TO COME, JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH.

NOW BOTH JEW & GENTILE MUST BE BORN AGAIN BY FAITH IN JESUS
CHRIST ALONE, FOR SALVATION!
(SEE GENESIS 15:6; HABAKKUK 2:4; JOHN 1:10-17; MATTHEW 3:7-10;
LUKE 13:3; ACTS 2:40; ROMANS 3:19-29; 5:1-2).

(IV) The Church did NOT exist in the Old Testament

Acts 7:37-38 is often cited to try to support the idea that the church existed in
the Old Testament times, because it mentions that Moses was in “the Church in the
wilderness.” The word translated “church” is the Greek word ecclesia which literally
means “a called out assembly or gathering.”).
It is quite obvious that the use of the word “ecclesia” used in Acts 7:37-38 is
adequately speaking of the literal nation of Israel that was called out of Egypt &
assembled in the wilderness. Even the context demands that these verses are speaking
of the Nation of Israel not the Christian Church.

The Mystery of the Christian church is that Jews & Gentiles are made
fellow heirs in the same body & of the same promise. The fellowship of this
mystery was from the beginning of the world hid in God, who created all things
by Jesus Christ, until, of course after the first advent of our Lord Jesus Christ
(Ephesians 3:1-10). The Church which is built upon the foundation of the
apostles (of the New Testament) as well as the prophets of the Old Testament
(Ephesians 2:20) was only brought into existence during Jesus` earthly ministry
for it wasn’t fully built before then (Matthew 16:18; 18:15-20-21; Ephesians
2:20). Fifty days after the death & resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
church was then empowered on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2) where more than
just two or three apostles & disciples were gathered all of one accord (Note
Matthew 18:20).

(V) “For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God
without effect?” –Romans 3:3.
The Jews were called to be a light to the Gentiles but they continually failed. In
Romans 3:1-3, the apostle Paul who was writing to the Christians in Rome spoke
of the Jews (in the present tense) as having advantage over the Gentiles because
it was unto them that the oracles of God were firstly given. Paul also said that the
unbelief of some (or even many) of the Jews shall never make our Christian
faith, the Faith of God, without effect!

(VI) In Romans 9:1-5, Paul was writing to the Christians. In explaining his deep
love for his kinsmen “according to the flesh” whom he called “Israelites” and he
wished himself accursed (unsaved) instead of them.
Qn) If a person is accursed, it means that they are under God’s wrath /
judgement. Is the church accursed, or is it that Paul is saying that unbelievers
are under God’s wrath? (Note: John 3:18, 36; Romans 2:8-12; Galatians 1:6-9).
Would this mean, according to the CONTEXT in Romans 9 that the ones who do
not believe the Gospel are accursed & are they unbelieving Jews?

(VII) The Church of Christ (Christians) are not the ones who are ignorant of
God’s righteousness & going about trying to establish their own righteousness. It
is the unbelieving Jews as is pointed out in Romans 10:1-4.

Was Paul praying for Israel or for the Church to be saved?

(VIII) God would use those who are of a different nation to provoke the Jews to
anger & Jealousy (Romans 10:17-21).
Is it Israel or the Christian church that would get provoked?

(IX) According to Romans 11:1-6, Paul who was writing to the church said that
God hath NOT cast away his people which He foreknew?

• In verse 1, was Paul speaking of his literal bloodline descent or was he

talking about a Christian denomination when he referred to, “...the tribe
of Benjamin?
• In verse 2. does Paul mention that Elijah was interceding against Israel or
the Church?
• According to verse 3 did the Church kill the prophets on did Israel?

• Was Israel blinded or was it the church? Who are the Elect?

(X) According to Romans 11:25-29 it is Israel who is blind, and it is Israel in her
unsaved state that are enemies (opposed) to the Gospel … BUT they still ARE
BELOVED for the fathers` sakes.

(XI) Replacement Theology also ignores the fact that the New Testament refers
to 3 literal groups of people, now existing at the same time even till this day.
These three groups are: Unsaved Jews, Unsaved Gentiles, & the Church of God
(which is made up of saved Jews & Gentiles). This is also very clearly pointed out
in 1Corinthians 10:13.

“Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to
the church of God:..” -1Corinthians 10:32.

It is the third group of people mentioned in this verse -the Church,

wherein it doesn't matter what your bloodline, background, social
status or sex is, for IN CHRIST ALL ARE ONE (Galatians 3:26-
29). This is the Israel of God /spiritual Israel (Galatians 6:15-16)
where a Jew physically can also become a Jew Spiritually / Inwardly
(Romans 2:27-29).
The Literal bloodline Israelites that are not yet saved are NOT a
part of the Israel of God /Spiritual Israel (See Romans 9:6-9).

(XII) The Church was a mystery hidden to those living in Old Testament times
(Ephesians 3:1-9).
Israel was the nation chosen by God to be a light to the Gentiles, so that (like
Abraham) the Gentiles would also turn away from their vain idols & their own way,
& turn unto the True God, Yahweh the God of Israel.

In Old Testament times, Gentiles could become proselyte Jews. This is

because God does NOT make Himself a monopoly of any one race. “To whom much
is given much will be required” for with privilege comes responsibility this is why
just as Salvation came to the Jew first then also to the Gentile so it is with Judgement.
The Mystery of the church is that NOW both Jew & Gentile are united as fellow
heirs, and of the same body, partakers of His promise by the Gospel (Ephesians
3:6). The Jews had national pride & so did the 12 apostles. The Church was a
mystery that was so hidden until after Christ started building it & Gentiles were
also getting saved. This was such a mystery that the apostles ended up holding
their peace & saying with surprise, “.. Then hath God also to the Gentiles
granted repentance unto life.” (Acts 11:1-18)!

(XIII) There are other distinctions that exist between Israel & the Church that
clearly make it impossible to identify the church as Israel & having replaced
Israel. The church can be called spiritual Israel but it has not taken the place of
Literal Israel. Listed in the comparative table below & on the next page are some
examples of these other distinctions.

Spirit of Life In Christ
Jesus.

(xii) Priesthood Had a priesthood Is a royal Priesthood.

(Every believer has direct
access to God).
(xiii) Marriage Unfaithful wife Bride of Christ.

(xiv) The Law Under the law Under Grace.

These clear contrasts, which show the distinction between Israel & the Church,
make it impossible to identify the church as the (only) Israel or having replaced
the literal nation of Israel.

2ndly: Replacement Theology has always been

the basis of Roman Catholic Eschatology.
"The Jews have not recognised our Lord, therefore we can-
not recognise the Jewish people." -Pope Pius X in January
1904

Those who espouse any type of Post tribulation rapture / rescue theory for the
church, must identify the church as Israel & having replaced the old nation of
Israel, in order to maintain that the church goes through the 70th week (the
Tribulation Period / the time of Jacob’s trouble mentioned in Jeremiah 30:4-7).

This Roman Catholic scholar never even heard of the Rapture, but has been
briefed since by his superiors. They say, Oh, it’s just a matter of interpretation.

ALSO
This Roman Catholic website in October 2005 taught that the rapture of the
Christians is a false doctrine invented in the 1800`s by John Nelson Darby. (See
below).
Why is it so that the Roman Catholic theologians believe & teach that this is the
case?

It is because they teach that Israel has been replaced by their `church` & that the
`Church` as they understand it must go through her final trial. They believe that
after the seven year tribulation period … only then, will the `church` be
delivered / rescued at the 2nd Advent of Jesus Christ. You will find this
information in St Paul’s Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Article 675 says, “Before

Article 676 says, “The Antichrist’s deception already begins to take shape in the
world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope
which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatological judgement.
The church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to
come under the name of millenarianism,
millenarianism, especially the “intrinsically perverse”
political form of a secular messianism.” (Note also Articles 677 & 769).

The Bible says that God takes the wise in their own craftiness

The American Catholic.org website article titled “Raptured or not? A Catholic

Understanding” in October 2005 from which I quoted earlier, presented the typ- typ-
ical Post-Tribulationist cliché that I have also heard many Non Catholics (who
are also Post – tribulation in eschatology) use. It is the party line that assumes
that the Pre-tribulation Rapture view only came into existence by John Nelson
Darby in the 1800`s! …

The question I wish to ask is, “IF the pre- tribulation rapture view of
eschatology has only been around for less than 250 years THEN how
could it have been condemned by the Roman Catholic hierarchy in
431 A.D. at the Counsel of Ephesus as “a deviation & a fable”& then
denounced again in 1516 at the 5th Lateran Council?

That is a historical discrepancy of a minimum of 494 - 1570+ years!!!

3ndly: Replacement Theology has been the basis

of Roman Catholicism`s adverse treatment of
the Jews throughout history.

Eschatology, but also been the basis of its adverse treatment of the Jews
throughout history.

• Anti Jewish sentiment is traced back to the first oppressive Roman

Empire.

was a union of territories in Central Europe during the Middle Ages and the Early

“Under the principle of translatio imperii, the `Holy` Roman Empire regarded itself as

The Roman Caesar s used the Latin title “Pontifex Maximus” as one of their official
titles.
The title means, “Chief bridge builder between man & the afterlife - which is a blas-
phemous title because Jesus Christ said, “I am the Way, the Truth & the Life: no
man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” –John 14:6.
The Roman Caesars changed their political costumes for primarily religious ones
from the time of Emperor Constantine’s false conversion & his `Edict of Toleration`
where he declared his (white rinsed pagan) version of Christianity as the state religion
of his empire.

The first emperor of the “Holy” Roman Empire was Otto I, crowned in 962 A.D.
The last was Francis II, who abdicated and dissolved the Empire in 1806 A.D
during the Napoleonic Wars. It was officially known as the Holy Roman Empire
of the German Nation.

The `Popes` of Rome even to this day still arrogantly carry the title
“Pontifex Maximus” which is where the terms “Pontiff” &
“Pontificate” come from. They persecuted all who disagreed with them.

It is also a well documented fact that the Roman Catholic crusades

were responsible for the wiping out, imprisonment & torture of
thousands of Jews.
Later in 1212 A.D. by Papal Edict (command of the pope) - the Roman Catholic
Institution forced Jews out into ghettos to starve & forced them to wear a
distinctive yellow star woven onto their clothing. Jews were also forbidden to
hold public office. This was enforced by the Dominicans.

The Vatican was behind the Jewish Holocaust of WWII

When Zionist leader Theodore Herzl met with Pope Pius X in January
1904 he asked the Roman Church to alleviate the suffering of European
Jews & to support Jewish aspirations for a return to their traditional
homeland in Israel. The pope was blunt in his reply saying, "The Jews
have not recognised our Lord, therefore we cannot recognise the
Jewish people."

Documents discovered by Jewish groups show that at the height of World War II
Pope Pius XII warned against making Palestine a homeland for the
«Hebrew race» and had no complaints about the Nazi occupation of Rome.

1943, memo written by the British Ambassador to the Vatican, Francis
D’Arcy Osborne, recounting a one-hour conversation he had with the pope
months before the Allies liberated Italy. Osborne quoted Pius XII as saying
he had «no complaints» about the Germans occupying Rome and that the Ger-
mans had «behaved correctly» when it came to respecting the neutrality of the
Vatican.

As late as 1949, the Pope of Rome wanted Jerusalem to become an International

Zone. Not the capital of Israel, but the United Nations ruled Palestine.

“Encyclical of Pope Pius XII, on the Holy Places in Palestine. To the venerable
Brethren, the patriarchs, primates archbishops, Bishops and other Ordinaries.
9. We have never ceased to pray repeatedly for this enduring and genuine peace. And
to the end that it might be brought to fruition and permanence at
the earliest possible moment, We have already insisted in Our Encyclical letter In
Multiplicibus, that the time has come when Jerusalem and its vicinity,
where the previous memorials of the Life and Death of the Divine Redeemer are pre-
served, should be accorded and legally guaranteed an “international” status, which in
the present circumstances seems to offer the best and most satisfactory protection for
these sacred monuments.”

12. Not a few of these places have suffered serious loss and damage owing to the up-
heaval and devastation of the war. Since they are religious memorials of such moment
– objects of veneration to the whole world and an incentive and support to Christian
piety – these places should also be suitably protected by definite statute guaranteed by
an “international” agreement.”

Adolf Hitler wanted to create the third «Holy Roman Empire». Like the Messian-
ic age that is going to last for 1000 years, the Nazi-leader promoted an empire that
was going to last for 1000 years.

“Gott Mit Uns” is German for “God with us.” Hitler was a very religious man. He
thought that He was the saviour of human race. That’s why he wrote «Gott mit uns»
on the belt of his soldiers (Photo of belt buckle on the right). Hitler in his delusions of
grandeur saw that there was only one problem in the pipeline, hindering his dream
that he had to deal with and that was the Jews. Hitler was convinced that he did a
good thing for God by killing Jews. Just like Hamas does today. This is a fulfilment of
what Jesus warned His disciples about in John 16:1-4.

“These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think
that he doeth God service.
And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. {16:4} But
these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them.
And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.”

Adolph Hitler said, "I am personally convinced of the great power and deep significance of Chris-
tianity, and I won't allow any other religion to be promoted. That is why I have turned away from
Ludendorff and that is why I reject that book by Rosenberg. It was written by a Protestant. It is not a
Party book. It was not written by him as a Party man. The Protestants can be left to argue with
him ...As a Catholic I never feel comfortable in the Evangelical Church or its structures. That is
why I will have great difficulty if I try to regulate affairs of the Protestant churches. The evangel-
ical people or the Protestants will in any case reject me. But you can be sure: I will protect the rights
and freedoms of the churches and not let them be touched, so that you need have no fears about the fu-
ture of the Church."

Hitler in discussing his views on the Jewish question said:

"As for the Jews, I am just carrying on with the same policy which the Catholic church has adop-
ted for fifteen hundred years, when it has regarded the Jews as dangerous and pushed them into
ghettos etc., because it knew what the Jews were like. I don't put race above religion, but I do see
the danger in the representatives of this race for Church and State, and perhaps I am doing Chris-
tianity a great service."

*Hitler was born of Roman Catholic parents, Klara Hitler, born Klara Polzl
(August 12th 1860 – December 21st 1907) & Alois Hitler [his father, born Alois
Schickgruber (June 7th 1837 – January 3rd 1903).

They were devout Roman Catholics & received Roman Catholic burials on
Roman Church property. To Adolph Hitler “Christianity” was Roman
Catholicism as was taught to him. He served Pius XII very faithfully.
*During the holocaust, additional papal decrees forbade Jews, non Catholics &
true Christians from owning real estate, selling new goods, or living with or near
Roman Catholics. (This was also enforced in Jerusalem during the Crusades).
The three big defenders of the Roman Catholic faith were Hitler, Mussolini, and
Franco. All three had concordats with the Vatican. When the Nazi war machine
swept through the Balkans on the way to attack Russia, Yugoslavia had become
a Nazi occupied country.

An especially "authorised" person by the Vatican, Franco, Knight of the Order

of `Christ`, expressly confirmed the collusion between the Vatican and the Nazis.
According to "Reforme", this is what the press of the Spanish dictator (Franco) pub-
lished on the 3rd of May 1945, the day of Hitler's death:
"Adolf Hitler, son of the Catholic Church, died while defending
Christianity. It is therefore understandable that words cannot be found to
lament over his death, when so many were found to exalt his life. Over his
mortal remains stands his victorious moral figure. With the palm of the
martyr, God gives Hitler the laurels of Victory" - "Reforme", 21st of July 1945.

The Nazi party's insignia, the Swastika originated from India, but was adopted
by those within the Jesuit order. The Swastika is also used as a Masonic symbol.

M. Maxime Mourin wrote:

"Adolf Hitler had been a pupil at the school of Lambach and sang amongst the choir
boys in the abbey bearing the same name. He discovered the swastika there, as it was
the heraldic sign of Father Hagen, the abbey's administrator".

According to National Geographic, March 1939, page 395, Mussolini entered
into the papal palace (shown above) on his historic visit on the 11th February
1932 (which was the third anniversary of the signing of the Lateran Accord.

To pay off the Vatican, Mussolini (of Italy) signed a Concordat * making Roman
Catholicism the only religion allowed in Italy & its territories. Mussolini
re-established the `temporal power` of the `Pope` & gave the clergy complete
power over the life of that nation. Italy became a major power under their
Catholic fascist dictator, Mussolini.

Like Italy, Germany signed a concordat with the Vatican in Rome, 1933.
Signing the concordat is Cardinal Pacelli (later to become Pope Pius XII). By 1933 he
was the Vatican Secretary of State. Second from left is Franz von Papen, a sinister
Nazi and devout Roman Catholic who was Hitler's ace diplomat and the Vatican's
agent in helping to bring Hitler to power. Standing at the far right can be seen the
little-known Vatican prelate, Montini, later to become Pope Paul VI.

If you are not aware of what a concordat is, a

concordat is an agreement between the Vatican
and a government.
Franz von Papen, another powerful Nazi, who was instrumental in setting up the
concordat between Germany and the Vatican had this to say: "The Third Reich is
the first world power which not only acknowledges but also puts into practice the
high principles of the papacy." (Der Voelkischer Beobachter, January 14th 1934).

All of these associates including Pacelli, the man who later became Pius the 12th,
had some Jewish blood in their veins but were not Jewish in faith. Hitler & his
associates all had one thing in common – They were all Roman Catholics. (Secret

`Pope` Pius XI supported Hitler, the Roman Catholic vote swept Hitler into
power in 1933. The world then faced a terrible machine called the Third Reich,
in which the Vatican would become the masters.

 Now just in case you still don't believe that the Vatican was behind the Holocaust
of WWII, I have included a recent Newspaper article: The Daily Telegraph
March 12th 2000 on page 11 titled `Pope apologises for all.’

Of course after years of trying to sweep all evidence under the carpet, the
Vatican tries to blame the holocaust on those within the Roman Catholic system.
Yet it was implemented by the hierarchy of the Vatican (and her henchmen)
which are NOT real Christians, according to Jesus ` own words in John 16:1-3.

The United Nations partition of Palestine garnered Vatican approval only

because Jerusalem would remain under international rather than Jewish
control. In 1948, Israel won its independence. Eventually, most of the nations of
the world recognised Israel.
To the Vatican, however, it seemed that no recognition of the Nation of Israel would
be possible unless three issues were resolved: Israel's borders must be solidified;
Jerusalem's status must be settled; Catholics living in Arab countries must be
protected against backlash from any deal with Israel.
Talks and negotiations got nowhere for many years. The breakthrough came under
Pope John Paul II, a pontiff who has reached across many barriers. The fact that Israel
was now in possession of Jerusalem and that it had begun negotiations with
Palestinians oiled the diplomatic engine.
In 1992, the Vatican and Israel agreed to agree. Negotiators set to work to hammer
out terms of recognition. They prepared a text in Hebrew and English. On this day,
December 30, 1993,the Vatican and Israel signed the Fundamental Agreement
Between the `Holy See `and the State of Israel.
The Roman Catholic Religion sees itself not only as the first Christian church
(which is incorrect) but she also was the first to teach that because Israel rejected
her Messiah, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, that their `church` replaced the Jewish
nation on earth.
• The Vatican never recognised Israel as a nation until 1993. The Vatican
however has since changed its position (loosely) on Israel. Now rather
than saying that their `Church` replaced Israel, to save face, they now say
that the Church has been `Grafted in` instead of replacing Israel. BUT
the Vatican is still opposed in many ways to Israel through the U.N.
Conclusion:
Replacement Theology is the view that because Israel rejected her
Messiah, God has replaced her with the Christian Church & is finished with
Israel. It supposes that the Church is Israel & that only Christians can be called
Israel, because they are called “Spiritual Israel”.
This view is held by most Protestant denominations today. The Roman Catholic
religion, (which originated this `teaching), though once officially holding this
theological viewpoint, now views the Church as being `grafted into Israel rather
than replacing it -only after 1993.. For the view of Replacement theology to be
maintained certain facts of Bible verses as well as many sharp distinctions
between Jewish Israel & the Christian church must be ignored. There are also
some inherent problems & even hazards with this view. It forms the basis of
Roman Catholic Eschatology & the idea of Christianity as a religion of the state.
The inherent hazards of Replacement Theology are seen in the Vatican's
mistreatment & persecution of the Jewish race throughout history.
Whilst Replacement Theology may not lead one to anti-Semitic acts
against Jewry it may affect those who adhere to it in other areas of theology &
practice such as eschatology, evangelism, prayer (Psalm 122; Romans 10:1-4) &
a person's willingness to aid Jews in any possible future Holocaust. God is angry
with the nations that fight against Israel for Jerusalem in the last days & for the
fact that they have parted the Land which really belongs to God, which he gave
to Christ's brethren according to the flesh -the Jews. God will destroy those
nations & then literally & visibly reign upon the earth for one thousand years
(See: Zechariah 14:1-9,12-17; Joel 3:1-3, 9-12). The last days prophecies
concerning Jerusalem becoming a cup of trembling to all nations (Zechariah
12:1-5), the regathering of the Jews into the Land of Israel (in their spiritually
dead state of unbelief) as well as all the other prophecies of Ezekiel 36 - 39 would
not make any sense if the unregenerate Jewish Nation of Israel did not still
exist as well as the church of God. (Read Romans 11:1-6, 13-15; 1 Corinthians
10:32).
In the next article “The Perils of Replacement Theology (Part 2),” we
shall see that Islam also has a type of replacement theology. They believe that
`God` has finished with Israel, but their type of Replacement Theology is not
based on the Jews rejection of their Messiah, but rather the Jewish Nation's
failure to prevail militarily over Rome. The increase of anti-Semitism against the
Jews (as foretold in Scripture: -Jeremiah 29:17-19; 44:8; Ezekiel 22:4-5; Luke
21:21-24; Matthew 27:24-25) would also not make sense if Replacement
Theology were true. Now Islamic fundamentalism is sweeping the world.
