he second month of the
year is already here and
January has proven to be a
month with good turnouts for the
Friday Night Dinners. Joyce Cra-
ven has done a great job of keep-
ing track of the reservations; we
appreciate her enthusiasm.
February 26 will be a club
cruise-in for members which will
include a boat inspection and the
Blessing of the Fleet. Failure to
attend could increase your risk of
going aground during the follow-
ing season.
February 6 is Super Bowl XLV
which will place the Steelers
against the Packers; should be a
good game since the teams are
relatively close in skill and the
current point spread is very small.
The game begins at 3:29 pm our
time so come early and celebrate
the camaraderie of our follow club
members.
We have a number of cruises
coming up and it helps cruise cap-
tains if you can sign up early even
if you are not completely sure you
will make it.

great meals and Sunday
Brunch for the club. Gradu-
ates of Vintage High School
and parents of three young
children, they manage several
businesses here in Napa in-
cluding, Miyamo, selling
women’s apparel on First
Street, Anderson Catering and
Anderson Janitorial. Tyler is
active in the Downtown Asso-
ciation and is a volunteer fire-
man.
Last year many members
felt challenged by cooking for
60 on Friday Nights. This year
the Board approved an ar-
rangement with Anderson
which was negotiated by Steve
Vartan who is responsible for
implementation. The plan is
win-win. Anderson has the use
of our new galley for his cater-
ing activities and the Club gets
meals catered at a very reason-
able price. His janitorial crew
works from 6 pm to 2 am and
cleans the club every Friday
evening.
If you are planning a private
event at the club, they can
clean up for you at a nominal
charge. Anderson catering is
available for parties at your
home or business. Contact

anuary started off with a
smaller than usual cruise out
to Berkeley YC for our an-
nual New Year’s Cruise. Boats
were Charisma, Grand Cru, Shiva
and Star Ship. Between shopping
and celebrating at the club we had a
good time but we did miss the South
Beach get together which had be-
come a much looked forward to
event in recent years. We’ll work
on trying to find a way to return it
to our schedules. We may need to
make individual reservations. Stay
tuned.
Coming up this month we have
two events. On Wednesday, Febru-
ary 16 at 5:30 pm at the clubhouse
I will be holding the first Safety
Workshop of the year. The subject
will be VHF radio procedures
which will include general usage a
well as distress situations. Please
call or email me (captkmg@usa.net)
if you plan to attend. The second
event is Vessel Safety Checks by the
USCG Auxiliary at 0900 hours on
Saturday, February 26. It is a good
idea once a year to think about and
check out all of your safety equip-
ment. Remember pyrotechnics
must be within 42 months of the
date of manufacture in order to
fulfill the USCG requirement. The
inspection will be followed by the
blessing of the fleet by our own Rev.
Donald and Rev. Thomas.
Kurt Star will lead our annual
pilgrimage to Loch Lomond YC in
San Rafael March 18-20. Saturday
night dinner will include a potato
carving contest and Irish dancers.

Eight Bells for Chris Kreighbaum
We note with sadness the passing of
long-time NVYC Member Chris
Kreighbaum. Chris and his wife
Conni, lived at the Napa Yacht Club
for many years, have been NVYC
members since 1997, and cruised with
their 32’ Bayliner “Fortuitous.” Upon
retirement they moved to Reno. Conni
is a past club Treasurer. Our condo-
lences to the family.

Minutes
Meeting called to order at 1730 hours, January 11, 2011
at NVYC Clubhouse by Commodore Dirk Kruidenier.
Present: Dirk Kruidenier, Bill Newton, Ken Graham,
Steve Vartan, Bob Weeks, Donald Buresh, Chris Fultz,
Avi Strugo, Phil Champlin, Dana Robbers, Dominique
Stahr, Staff Commodore Larry Wolfe.
Reports:
• Treasurer Vartan reported year-end balance was
$70,302.00 Report accepted.
• Commodore’s Cruise will be July 29-30 to Jack
London Square
• We will try to have one Sunday Brunch each month
and some Saturday events
• Five cruise-ins are scheduled so far. Bar will be
open and Club members are encouraged to come to
the club and meet the cruisers.
• Super Bowl party is February 6
• Discussion of possibility of honor bar
• RC Graham will conduct Safety Seminar on Feb 16
• Cruise-out to Loch Lomond March 18-20
Motions Passed:
• Rental rate for clubhouse raised to $100 for mem-
bers and $200 for other organizations effective for
future rentals after March 19.

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
As of February 1, 2011, we have 74 members
who have paid 2011 dues. Including charter and
ancient mariner members the total membership is
85. If you haven’t sent in your dues statement,
now is the time if you want to be included in the
new member roster. After February 1, there is a
$50 late penalty. Dues statements were published
in the December and January newsletters. They
are also available on the website.
So far 42 members have opted to receive the
NVYC Newsletter by e-mail. This means that we
will be printing and mailing fewer copies.
