PART: “A”

1. Referring to the any Multi-National

Company example, what are the most
important HR applications a company
could offer to its employees via a Web-
based system?
Ans.:
The most important HR applications that a
company should offer to its employees via a
Web-based system are by giving employees
access to information that they need. The HR
department can do this by ensuring that
employees can easily find applicable
information without spending a tremendous
amount of time looking for it. Applications can
include a multitude of things such as benefits,
training, opportunities for advancement or
career growth, scheduling of time, sick and
dental benefits and forms, travel and hotel
directives, learning centres and many other
things.

2. Referring to the example on Dell

Computer, what other solutions could
there be for the problem of information
system incompatibility in business
besides EAI systems?
Ans.:
Dell Computer chose the Web Methods’
enterprise application integration (EAI)
technology as a solution to their challenge of
integrating a variety of software packages from
a number of companies that they deal with.
This technology acts as a software translator
and creates a kind of hub that, using the Web,
allows instantaneous communicatio n among
networked companies’ internal business
systems.

Dell could have chosen to develop their own in-

house system or outsourced the contracting of
a new system that their clients would buy into.
They could also pursue such things as joint
ventures, strategic allianc es, licensing, etc. for
a new system.

3. Why would systems that enhance a

company’s relationships with customers
have such a high rate of failure?
Ans.:
Systems like CRM that enha nce a
company’s relationships with customers have
such a high rate of failur e and reasons for a
high rate of failure could include:

 No amount of high-level cooperation will

protect a CRM project from rank-and-file
employees that hate it due to fear the
software would threaten their jobs.
 CRM is complex to install because it often
touches many different legacy systems.
 A CRM system may prove to be very slow
for customers and employees if not
designed and implemented right.
 Poor project planning and training with
little stakeholder involvement.
 Due to lack of understanding &
preparation.
 CRM is not a silver bullet.

PART: “B”

4. How can the problem of

overenthusiastic demand forecasts in
supply chain planning be avoided?
Explain with examples.
Ans.:
Implementing collaborative SCM systems is a
very complex undertaking. A lack of proper
demand planning knowledge, tools, and
guidelines are stated as major sources of SCM
failur e.

Inaccurate and overenthusiastic demand

forecasts will cause major production,
inventory, and other business problems, no
matter how efficient the rest of the supply
chain management process is constructed.
Inaccurate production, inventory, and other
business data provided by a company’s other
information systems are a frequent cause of
SCM problems. Any lack of adequate
collaboration among marketing, production,
and inventory management departments within
a company, and with suppliers, distributors,
and others, will sabotage any SCM system.
Even the SCM software tools themselves are
considered to be immature, incomplete, and
hard to implement by many companies who are
installing SCM system.

5. Are you interested in investing in,

owning, managing, or working for a
business that is primarily engaged in
electronic commerce on the Internet?
Draft the proposal.
Ans.:
Yes, I am interested in in investing in, owning,
managing, or working for a business that is
primarily engaged in electronic commerce on
the Internet because nowadays e- commerce is
a growing field of interest, and businesses are
seriously considering this new concept of
conducting business.

Certainly, this field is also opening new career

opportunities for individuals who are interested
in working in this dynamic and changing
environment.

One more reason for this is that in order to

compete in the global marketplaces, businesses
must engage in electronic commerce and have
a presence on the Internet. The Internet is the
driving force in the new economy. Businesses
are engaging in e-commerce to develop market,
sell, deliver, service, and pay for products and
services which are being transacted on the
internetworked, global marketplaces of
customers, and with the support of a worldwide
network of business partners.

6. Why do you think there have been

so many business failures among “dot-
com” companies that were devoted
only to retail e-commerce?
Ans.:
Yes, it is true that there have been so many
business failures among “dot-com” companies
that were devoted only to retail e-commerce.

Reason for their failures is given below:

• Today many companies and
organizations are seriously rushed into
the retail e- commerce, that means they
really want to involve into the Internet
through the help of their own site in the
Internet and making profit as much as
possible, but they really they don’t
know what or how it would work like,
what are the needs of customers, when
and where it’s wanted, they don’t know
how much cost they should prefer for a
product so that it will be comfortable
for any customer and etc. Retail e-
commerce is not so much simple as the
organizations thought, it is servicing
your customers better that your
competitors. The organizations should
have common sense of using and
implementing the concept of retail e-
commerce, simply putting a site
together does not guarantee that
customers will come.

So, the above given statement is the main

reason for so many business failures among
“dot-com” companies that were devoted only to
retail e-commerce.
