Statement of Purpose

“Where Drive, Knowledge and Speed can take you -

Software Engineering and Information Security”

The inquisitiveness about knowing the best and latest

technology has made me choose an academic path that lets me
work on the technologies related to one of the best technological
innovation “COMPUTER”. The first encounter with computer in 6th
grade of school was not very interesting, as we used to work on DOS
prompt. Later, as we moved to Graphical User Interface [GUI] based
windows, working on computers seemed more interesting. But the
passion for computers & programming developed in 12th grade,
when for the first time I made a Data file handling project in C++.
The ability to program a computer, to make it act the way one
wants it, gives me a great sense of contentment.
In my undergraduate studies, the intuitively formatted
syllabus of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya gave a
comprehensive knowledge of science related to computers. During
the first year of my undergraduate program, I was given brief
knowledge about some of the subjects of the core fields of
engineering such as Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and many others. In
the Second Year, some of the subjects like Object oriented
programming and Data structure gave a sort of reinforcement to
knowledge acquired during 11th & 12th grade. In the Third Year,
subjects like Operating system & Microprocessor gave an insight
about computers while some of the other subjects like Database
Management & Software engineering turned out to be of great help
in the later part of degree course. During the semester break of
sixth semester I accomplished my industrial training, where I was
given training on application of .Net Technology in Software and
Web development. In the final year subjects like Artificial
intelligence, Neural network & Network security helped me realize
the domains that could be considered for further specialization
during my graduate studies. Last two years of my undergraduate
studies really proved to be crucial for my decision of pursuing
Graduate studies. Towards the end of 3rd year, I started preparing
for GRE and gave my first attempt in October 2009 and then second
attempt in September 2010.
Software Projects
During the course of my education till now, I have worked on
various academic & non-academic projects. Starting from the basic
data file handling project “My Phonebook” in C++ in 12th grade, was
my first project. It was designed to store the contact information in
digital format on a computer. Then, during third year of my B.E.
course, I developed a database management software “Matrimony
Software” designed keeping in mind the requirements of
Matrimonial matchmaking agencies. It was developed in visual basic
6.0 and Microsoft access 2003 as back-end. Some of its
characteristic features include its ability to save image file in the
database and simultaneous application of multiple search criteria
(such as age, marital status, ethnicity etc.). During my final year,
towards the fulfillment of major project, I developed a monitoring
software “Client Desktop Monitoring Software” working on LAN
configuration. I developed this software, along with 3 of my
classmates under the guidance of Prof. Abhishek Singh Rathore, in
visual studio 2005. Some of its characteristic features include
screen capturing, process monitoring, remote system handling, and
remote shutdown. We utilized many features of .net in our project
for capturing screenshots, retrieving process running information,
for enabling communication over the network through socket
programming.
Apart from the regular academic assignments, due to my
interest in computer sciences, I was also involved in many self
initiated non-academic projects. One of my most interesting projects
was building a multi-touch pad with simple household items with the
help of tutorial given on http://nuigroup.com and for recognizing the
input I used open source software “Touchlib”. Some other projects
include software developed for my uncle, who is a financial broker,
for maintaining records of creditors & debtors. And the most recent
one was for my father, a businessman, for maintaining stock records
as well as database of customers and brokers. All these projects
were possible because of my inclination towards programming. The
thing I like the most about programming is the level of
customization & optimization one can attain.
My thought of doing MS is mainly driven by my sheer
interest in Computer Science and related technologies and a
desire to achieve excellence in Software engineering &
development. A Master’s degree in Computer science with major
in Software engineering will help me broaden my knowledge
about computer science & ultimately help me achieve a great
career in the field of ITeS.
I think the MS program with these objectives matches with
my career goals and therefore I consider it as the next
professional step in my career. After enriching myself with
qualifications from your university, I look forward for employment
with a Multi National Company at the international level for
research and development. My inclination towards
implementation of Software project work has been very high;
hence after completing my graduate studies, I wish to undertake
international software development projects with due
consideration to security measures especially at the time of
designing of large software system.
Therefore, I request the Admissions Committee to consider
my application for merit based awards such as Teaching or
research assistantships.
I thank you for considering my application.
