A prayer for
Bixby Knolls Christian Church:
Dear friends, Use me to bring wholeness to my

it. I got off, shook my head, and tried to figure out
what the heck just happened. I staggered to where the
rest of my family was waiting for me (none of them
chose to ride), and decided that the Xcelerator is one
ride I don’t ever need to ride again.
As our congregation continues moving through the
21st century, adapting the way we do ministry to our
changing times, we will do our best to prevent the
whiplash and disorientation that comes from a ride like
Xcelerator. Change is inevitable; we do our best to
manage it.
…I took a different sort of ride last Friday: I
climbed aboard a helium (not hot air) balloon, and gen-
tly soared 400 feet into the sky. It was much more
peaceful and relaxing than my ride on Xcelerator.
Calmly floating 400 feet above the ground, I got a great
view of the land below, including a view of several fea-
tures that I decided I would like to explore in more de-
tail once I returned to the ground.
Many of us, I think, have a view of our faith from
400 feet up. We see the lay of the land, but realize that
there are details which we feel called to explore close-
up once we return to the ground. That’s why I’ve de-
veloped an online Bible Study; it provides the opportu-
nity to go into greater detail about some of the stories
of our faith. We are still waiting for some folks to
“join;” all you’ve gotta do is visit our church website,
then click on the link for “Chalice Chat.”
